Electronic music pioneer, German DJ Paul van Dyk was the first artist to receive a Grammy Award nomination when Dance and Electronic received a Best Of category. Born in 1971, in Berlin Wall era Germany, van Dyk relied on forbidden radio broadcasts for his musical education as a teen. International success followed the release of his second album, Seven Ways, which established him as a leading force in trance and gained the attention of the British public. His popularity grew with the rise in popularity of trance music, and with clever remixes of pop stars like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, Paul van Dyk established himself as a trance legend.
