After leaving Chicago for San Francisco, frontman Steve Miller formed American rock band Steve Miller Band, a band with a lineup that is as colorful as their genre-bending rock. Infused with Miller’s blues background, psychedelic rock and classic rock samples, the band first built a local following with free concerts and a backing appearance for Chuck Barry before establishing their well-known style with their debut album, Children of the Future. The following album, Sailor, reached No. 24 on the Billboard album charts and is often regarded as their best work. Due to a car accident and medical complications, Miller and crew took several years off before returning with the highly-anticipated hit albums Fly Like an Eagle and Book of Dreams. Their Greatest Hits 1974-78 album sold over 13 million copies and Miller has been inducted as a solo artist into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
