Hi there! Welcome to our weekly roundup of the most interesting theme park news around the Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Orlando, SeaWorld Orlando and other theme parks.
This week’s theme park highlights:
- During a dedication ceremony this morning, Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs announced that the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train would officially open May 28! Staggs was joined by none other than Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at this momentous occasion. This family coaster introduces an innovative ride system, in that the mine cars swing back and forth as they travel down the track.
- The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train opening announcement comes as Disney World has been hosting members of the media this week to show off their newest entertainment offerings. And, yes, a number of those lucky press members did get to ride the family coaster. Soon, you will get your chance too! Here are a few more details about the coaster that will have you ready to ride, including a complete ride-through video. Don't watch it if you don't want to be spoiled!
- As part of re-imagining Disney's Polynesian Resort, the deluxe resort is returning to its original name -- Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. We've been told to expect more announcements about the resort coming soon.
- I'm sure many of you saw the Star Wars: Episode VII casting announcements earlier this week, with a set of newcomers joining the likes of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford. But there is speculation that we'll see even more casting news this Sunday, better known to all of you fans as Star Wars Day.
- One of the coolest things we've read about lately is Disney testing out phone charging lockers at the Magic Kingdom. The chargers are free, but require a credit card swipe for identification. The locations are in Tomorrowland at the Space Mountain gift shop and at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe.
- Falcon's Fury, which has delayed its opening because of construction requirements, released this awesomely good POV video (as Tad would say) that shows just how high 335 feet can feel!
- Who's up for some sweet treats? Orlando Informer has put together their list of the Top 5 treats at Universal Orlando. Yum!
- Good news for gamers. Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Black Widow and Hawkeye will be making their Disney Infinity debuts this fall.
That’s it for the theme park news this week. Have a great holiday weekend!
