A Look Back at This Week’s Disney and Related News -- August 31

by Leap on August 31, 2012

It's time for the Frog Family's weekly roundup of Disney and Orlando theme park tidbits from the interwebs.

We love tips and suggestions too, so if you have something to share, email us at [email protected].

This week's highlights:

  • Universal Orlando has finally shared with us all the gory details about Halloween Horror Nights, including its many houses (Silent Hill, the Walking Dead, Alice Cooper and Penn & Teller are the big four). Unlike the designated "scarezones" of the past, this year a host of creatures will be roaming the park to make sure you truly live in terror. We're offering a great deal on the Halloween Horror Nights plus Universal's 2 Day Park-to-Park ticket ($60 off gate prices). This is not a family-friendly event, so leave the kids with the sitter.
  • Seaworld Orlando is saying aloha to its Makahiki Luau dinner show, which has run for more than 30 years. Its last show is Sept. 30.
  • Walt Disney Imagineering has shared a second video inside the not-yet-opened attraction Enchanted Tales with Belle. This time we get to see how guests meet and interact with Madame Wardrobe, Lumiere and the dazzling Belle. As with everything else coming in the New Fantasyland™, Lily cannot wait to experience it firsthand!
  • Just in time for school's return, Disney has launched a trio of learning apps, "Pooh’s Birthday Surprise," "Toy Story Showtime!" and "Learn Chinese: Toy Story 3." The first two are geared for the pre-k and kinder crowds, while the language learning app could benefit a variety of ages.
  • Mommy Frog was "deliriously happy" this week (her words, not mine) when she stumbled upon this tumblr blog that creates subtle outfits based on Disney characters. She also wanted me to mention that Ariel was her favorite so far.
  • It must be the week for Disney fashion discoveries, because Barneys New York announced that its holiday campaign will makeover many beloved Disney characters into runway supermodels. Here's looking at the new you, Minnie!
  • In case you missed it, Liliane Opsomer, co-author of the "Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World with Kids" did a guest post on what it's like to dine at Cinderella’s Happily Ever After Dinner at 1900 Park Fare.
  • Good news for seafaring Texans. The Disney Magic cruise line has committed to sailing from Galveston for at least the next two years.
  • Could Camp Minnie-Mickey be the future Avatar-land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park? We will wait and see.
  • Disneyland is offering a chance to win a resort vacation as part of its “Frankenweenie Monstrous Sweepstakes” now through October 7 in collaboration with the opening of "The Art of Frankenweenie Exhibition" at Disney California Adventure.

That's all for this week. Until next week, happy planning!
