Ever since they sampled SpongeBob SquarePants for their debut single back in 2012, the literal band of brothers, AJR, has been tearing up the charts in the worlds of indie pop and alternative. In the last decade, they've received a Billboard Music Award, accumulated RIAA Platinum certifications for seven singles and one album and gone viral on social media with their songs "World's Smallest Violin" and "The Good Part." In April 2024, they embarked on their very first arena tour in support of their fifth studio album, "The Maybe Man." Overview of AJR & "The Maybe Man" Tour
For a trio who started out street performing in Central Park and Washington Square Park and posting covers on YouTube, the Met brothers have come a long way. Upon getting Sia's attention with "I'm Ready," the boys got themselves a manager and released their debut major-label EP. Two years later, AJR released their debut album and, one year after that, they released their third EP. One of the singles off of it, "Weak," amassed over 200 million Spotify streams within its first nine months of release. Another year later, the single off their second studio album — "Sober Up" (featuring Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo) — reached number one on the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart.
In 2019, their single "100 Bad Days" was included on Taylor Swift's Apple Music playlist, "Playlist by ME!" The same year, they performed on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," hit number one on Billboard's Top Rock Albums chart and sold out a show at Red Rocks Amphitheater. In November 2023, "The Maybe Man" Tour was announced and the titular album dropped just two days later. The track features five singles, including "I Won't," "The Dumb Song" and "Yes I'm a Mess." The tour is a momentous occasion for the band since they'll be performing for the first time at Madison Square Garden — a venue Ryan's dreamed of playing since he was a kid.
The show itself is incredibly impressive with complicated lighting, special effects, moving parts and surprises. It's so cool to see their lively violinist and trumpeter play live with them. You do not want to miss seeing AJR live in concert.
