- When is the Avatar Land at Disney California Adventure opening? The land is under construction and does not yet have an opening date. It's a few years away from opening. Permits have been filed to demolish Monsters Inc. and other areas of the Hollywood Backlot.
- What ride will be at the new Avatar Land? A boat ride will take riders on a journey through a Pandoran rainforest that glows in luminescent blues, greens and purples.

A yet-to-be-named Avatar Land is coming to Disney California Adventure. It is inspired by the “Avatar: The Way of Water” and the “Fire and Ash” films from the franchise, as well as other future Avatar films. (The franchise is expected to have five films by 2031.) It brings Pandora to life in a brand-new way.
The Avatar Land at Disneyland will be different from Pandora in Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park at Disney World, which explores the floating mountains from the first film. You can read all about Pandora at Animal Kingdom in our full guide!
This is one of the initial new attractions coming as part of DisneylandForward. DisneylandForward is a multi-billion dollar, multi-year expansion project for the Disneyland theme parks, bringing growth through new lands and experiences to the Disneyland Resort.
Disney California Adventure Avatar Ride
The new attraction is a boat ride, which takes guests on the adventure of a lifetime. Embark into the wide-open seas of Pandora. Experience the natural beauty — and danger — that come along with the journey. This ride includes all the action and excitement of Avatar. It's a dynamic, intense and emotional experience.
The ride does not yet have a name.
Look for creatures such as the Arrow Deer or four-eyed, six-limbed Hammerhead Titanothere. Sea creatures may burst out of the water. You'll travel through rainforests of otherworldly plants and travel to open seas.
Concept art shows Quonset huts and military-style base buildings of the Resources Development Administration (RDA). Sun shades cover the Marui villages as seen in “The Way of Water.”
You can see the floating Hallelujah Mountains of Pandora. They connect to the ground and each other via vegetation bridges.
There could be other rides in the land that have not been announced yet.
Where Will Avatar Be Located at Disneyland?
Everyone has been wondering where Avatar will be located at Disneyland, and we are both hoppy to have the answer and a little sad, too, because it means another family-friendly attraction has to close for the new land to be built.
Avatar will be built on current areas of the Hollywood Backlot at Disney California Adventure. That means Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! closes in 2027 to make way for the new experience.
What Else Is Coming to Disney California Adventure?
The new Avatar land is one of many additions coming to Disney California Adventure Park as part of DisneylandForward. These new lands and rides experiences will double the size of Disney California Adventure!
A New Coco Ride
We have a family-friendly ride to look forward to with the new "Coco" ride. So that lifts our "Coco"-loving froggy hearts.
The Coco ride is currently under construction. This boat ride will be located between Pixar Pier and Paradise Gardens Park.
Doubling of Avengers Campus
Avengers Campus has two new attractions that are currently under construction that will double the size of that land:
- Avengers: Infinity Defense — This “E-Ticket” attraction puts you right in the middle of the Multiverse in a different timeline in which Thanos won the battle and is king. The attraction connects the storylines of multiple heroes and villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The ride vehicle utilizes a portal technology to allow guests to jump between different universes, inclusing Asgard, Wakanda and New York City.
- Stark Flight Lab — Take rider a simulated flight in Tony Stark's robotics lab.Riders sit in a two-person pod, which deploys to a test station. A robot arm grabs the pods and starts whirling riders around in a simulated flight. The ride offers multiple “test flights,” which may encourage guests to return for a new or different experience.
