Celebrating Your Birthday at Disney World: Adult Edition

by Ashley Metz on September 17, 2013 24

My birthday is coming up. And I’m so excited to be spending a week in the MOST magical place on Earth, the Walt Disney World® Resort! Today I’m so excited to share with you some of the things that I’ll be doing on my upcoming trip!

Mickey Cake

Whether you are big or small, your birthday is an important day -- Disney World knows how to celebrate it! Because Disney World is a place where everyone can be a kid, I can't think of any place I'd rather mark the occasion of turning one year older. So let’s jump right into the many ways to celebrate!

Birthday PinWith celebration pins at Disney World, it is impossible not to celebrate something.  From anniversaries to birthdays and even a fill-in-the-blank option, the possibilities for celebrating are literally endless. Wearing a pin, especially a birthday pin, will get you plenty of "Happy Birthdays!" from cast members (and speaking characters) as well as other park guests!

I’m heading to the nearest guest services to pick up my pin and I’m going to wear that thing proudly.

Let them eat cake

Eating dessert with every meal is important when you are at Disney!  When it’s your birthday, it is mandatory that you eat cake ... cupcakes … or at least some kind of sweet treat.  Of course, you can satisfy this quota with some cake-like confections at a variety of restaurants across Disney property. You can even get some complimentary birthday desserts by letting cast members know as you arrive at table service restaurants. But this trip, we’re going all out! We’ve ordered a beautiful custom cake to celebrate with!  The cost isn’t too outrageous, and hey, it’s not just my birthday -- it’s also my mother’s birthday! Cake is what we’ll be eating! To order a special cake like me, all you have to do is call the cake hotline at 407-827-2253 at least 48 hours in advance to have the cake delivered to your table at any of the table service restaurants (make sure you already have your Advance Dining Reservations).

Raglan Road Irish Dancers

Disney World is like one nonstop party!  Why not take advantage of all that decorating for yourself?  I am thinking of the parks as my venue to a weeklong party!  I plan on enjoying my favorite rides, attractions, and shows. Swing by Downtown Disney to enjoy the dining, nightlife, and other festive attractions, and soak in the atmosphere! Raglan Road is a great place to celebrate -- you can dig into authentic Irish cuisine and whoop it up with the award-winning dancers!

Do something special

Cinderella's Royal Table

I say do something exquisite on your special day. For me, I’m making a fun list of things that I want to try for the first time. Maybe I’ll get a massage at the Grand Floridian. Maybe I’ll eat something new. I for sure will be doing some of my favorite things -- like eating with all of my favorite princesses (yes, I am an adult, but I never will grow up). Whatever exquisite means to you, do it!

Surprises keep it fun!

There are always great surprises at Disney World.  Looking for those moments of sheer serendipitous joy is something that I try to do every time I’m in the parks. From cast members honoring your celebration, shout-outs from the characters and special experiences, Disney knows how to cover the magic. You can help your loved one celebrate their special day in the parks by arranging a little magic of your own. Maybe you’ll pull out the big guns and order a little in-room flower/goodie basket, maybe you’ll make extra special surprise dinner plans or maybe you’ll give them a gift that will remind them of their special day.  There are so many ways to surprise your loved one on their birthday!

Now it’s time for a little comment section sharing! This is my absolute favorite part of writing articles on Disney World! Share with us what you have done to make someone's birthday extra special at Disney World!

Until next time, keep it magical!

Hi! My adult daughter and I are coming from California in January for our first trip to WDW. My birthday falls close to the end of our vacation which we're both looking forward to celebrating. I'd like to get some advice on Bday pin etiquette. I'm not sure if I should wear it for just my actual Bday or for the duration of the trip. I don't won't to come across as selfish or celebrate for too long and take away from my extra special day. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thank You.

Hi Belinda!

It is toadally up to you and what you're comfortable with! Wearing your pin the whole trip is perfectly acceptable :)

Went to DW for daughters 5th birthday (also first visit). Everyone made it so magical for her. From cast members giving fastpasses, a Epcot passport even a Marie plush (courtesy of Mickey). I know my DD had an exceptional experience. The most amazing experience for her tho was a family who sang to her. Now looking forward to booking for my 50th birthday so is my DD.

My mum will be 60 in Sep 2018 and we’re planning on going to magic kingdom for her big day. Is there any way of her getting in on the parade? I remember the past seeing families in a carriage but wasn’t sure if that was for a birthday or something else. Or can they give a shoutout during a parade or show? We’ve had pins in the past and cast members didn’t really say or do anything when seeing them.

Hi Hayley,

From what we've heard and seen, it's random who gets chosen to ride in the parades, but it does help if you wear a special pin and other celebratory accessories! It seems if you arrive at the park before opening you have a better chance to be chosen for special treatment, but again we cannot guarantee anything. Good luck and have a great trip!

June 1st we will be celebrating my bff's 50th. We are kinda doing this on a budget but I would really like to make as special as I can for her, we love to laugh, go dancing & she loves massages, mani & Pedis & FOOD...lol. any suggestions

Hi Miki!

While not on the lower end of the budget, the Grand Floridian has an amazing spa. A fun place to eat and dance is The Edison at Disney Springs. Our favorite tropical hangout for delicious drinks is Trader Sam's at the Polynesian Resort. Another awesome place to check out is Atlantic Dance Hall on The Boardwalk - The Boardwalk in general is one of our favorite places to hang out! As for food, you truly can't go wrong at Disney World! There are endless amazing options - let us know if you have any questions!

My sister said I need to register my birthday with WDW a year before my birthday celebration. I just had my birthday this year and need to know how/where/and if this needs to be done before my birthday WDW trip 2019

Jan 30, 2018 at 8:58 a.m. FrogBlog Says...

Hi Kat,

There is no need to "register" your birthday with Walt Disney World. Contrary to popular belief, Disney does not offer free entry or anything of the sort on your special day. The surprises are smaller and usually a result of wearing a birthday pin that you can grab at guest services upon entering the park! Please let us know if you have any further questions ... and have a blast!

Thanks! I knew there was not a "free entry ticket" because of other similar questions already asked here. Is there a website that keeps track of closings and refurbishment dates? I was bummed to learn that Ellen's Energy Adventure closed. My sister and I saw it in 2006 and LOVED it. We are forever calling people "Stupid Judy" and will continue to do so as it reminds us of that trip =) I would hate to plan a big birthday trip only to find out some of my favorite things are closed or being refurbished. Thanks for your time!

Hi Kat,

You can hop over to our Disney World Refurbishments post to keep track of refurbishments and closures!

Hi Louis,

Disney World does not offer free admission, even if it is for a birthday celebration! These are simply our recommendations on how to enhance your day.

Keep hopping!

Hi -- We are going to disney next month for my Adult bday. I was curious if you recall the price of the cake that you special ordered?

Always wear your birthday pin while visiting WDW. My Dad wore his when we visited one year and he got lots of special recognition. He even got a kiss from Minnie! WDW does not discriminate when it comes to adults or children alike.

Jackie, that is true! Always wear that button! My nephew RACKED up! Of course, he is 3 and adorable!

I celebrated my birthday at Disney World last year and had a fabulous time. For breakfast we went to Chef Mickeys, my daughter had brought along a blank 'Mickey' birthday card and we got all the characters, and our waitress, to sign it (a great reminder of our trip). After eating we spent the morning in Magic Kingdom and practically everyone (cast members and guests) wished me Happy Birthday (I had my birthday badge on - pin I think you call it). Lunchtime the park was getting too busy (It was July 13th) so we caught the monorail to the Polynesian, grabbed a few snacks and ate on the beach, chilling on one of the swings, and what a view! Mid afternoon we went back to our hotel for a rest and cool down, then after putting on our 'party' clothes we headed to Epcot for our dinner reservation at La Hacienda de San Angel as Mexican food is my favourite. Again we were treated as special guests, we were given a seat by the window and after the meal I was given a free desert and all the wait staff sang Happy Birthday in Spanish (at least I think that's what it was as I don't speak Spanish :)). The evening ended with us watching Illuminations from our seats in the restaurant - an amazing day!!!!! We've just booked our holiday for next year and guess what, I'm going to be in WDW for my birthday again - now what should I do?????

Aren't birthdays (and every other day) better at Disney World! It sounds like you guys had a lot of fun! I would highly recommend Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian! It is a blast and I think it would be super special for your birthday!

Hi Julie,

What a great idea to bring a blank birthday card for cast members to sign!

Hi everyone,

Fun tip I learned today from this post: BabyCakes NYC, the famed organic, allergen-free bakery in Downtown Disney, will deliver cakes to your Walt Disney World Resort or to most Disney World table service restaurants with a week's notice!

Pretty great!
