Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift Queue and Locker Details
Here's what you need to know to access this ride and how to store your belongings.
Types of Queues

When we toured the ride building back in March, we saw signs for Single Rider and Universal Express. But the ride may open with alternate options. So expect that operations could vary during the opening period. Past ride/land openings at Universal Studios Hollywood have utilized a Virtual Line for a limited time or delayed access for Universal Express users. Hop back closer to opening day for the deets on Fast & Furious line access.
Queue Elements
As you queue up for the ride, you'll pass by replicas of stunt vehicles and props that were used in the films. You'll also see storyboards from the films. Scan QR codes to watch videos about how they created the stunts. Keep an eye out for the following:
- Car cannon
- Vault Truck
- Yamaha WR250 dirt bike
- Ramp Car
- Dodge Charger NOS System Engine
- Spherical Rolling Bomb
- Rollover Stunt Rig
- Dodge Charger SRT8
While in the queue, you'll get to take in the view. You get a great view of the coaster itself (including the under-chassis of the trains and turning mechanism of the ride), but the the cliffside ride also offers breathtaking views of the valley and Lower Lot below!
Once you get on the ride platform, you'll see a huge mural! There are two loading platforms.
Double-Sided Lockers and Metal Detectors
While you're in the queue, you'll use double-sided lockers to store all loose items except a park ticket. In fact, this is the first Universal Studios Hollywood ride to use metal detectors to ensure pockets are empty. If you've ridden Velocicoaster, The Incredible Hulk Coaster, Stardust Racers and other rides at Universal Orlando, you already know the drill. If this concept is new to you Hollywood fans, here is how it goes:
- Store all items (keys, wallet, phone, pocket change, etc...) in a color-coded locker while in line.
- Scan the barcode on your admission ticket or annual pass to lock and unlock the two-sided compartments. If you have a digital ticket or pass on your smartphone, you'll ask a ride attendant for a paper barcode to scan. Take your ticket with you. You'll need it to open your locker after you ride.
- Pass through a metal detector before heading to the ride platform.
- If you did not empty your pockets, you'll be sent back to store your items.
- After riding, use your ticket/pass to retrieve your items (from the other side of the locker when you exit after riding the coaster.
The double-sided lockers save time and minimize congestion. Plus, they keep the park and ride safe from loose items falling on guests or tracks, as this coaster loops over walkways and reaches speeds of up to 72 mph.
Where Is Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift Located?
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is taking over the space previously home to the Animal Actors stage and the Special Effects Show. It's directly across from the entrance to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The coaster will launch from a garage-style station in the Upper Lot and make its way down toward the Lower Lot, including a standout element that loops around the Starway escalators. It's a unique layout for Universal Studios Hollywood, and this coaster takes full advantage of it. It also offers expansive views.
The Fast & Furious – Supercharged portion of the Studio Tour closed in March of 2025. This new coaster is filling the fandom's needs, and we cannot wait!
What Makes Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift Special?
This is the first roller coaster with inversions ever built at Universal Studios Hollywood, and that alone is a big deal. It also marks the park's first major thrill ride addition since Jurassic World – The Ride. Plus, the rotating ride vehicles are designed to drift through the course, adding a new level of immersion that will knock your socks off as "Fast & Furious" fans or just coaster fans in general. It's also the fastest coaster of Universal theme parks.
Universal is using noise-reducing tech to make sure the ride doesn't disrupt production on nearby soundstages. So yes, you can scream your head off without making it into a movie's background audio. The track tubes are filled with sound-absorbing gravel, and the rotating ride vehicles point you straight into the park and away from the studio at the biggest scream-inducing spots. When we watched the cars running, we were blown away by how quiet it was. Ride speakers in the headrests will create engine sounds.
Speaking of sound, the ride vehicles have speakers. But you won't be hearing your favorite playlist. The speakers add immersive sounds of revving engines, skidding tires and authentic car sounds.
When Does Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift Open?
Universal hasn't announced an exact opening date yet, but Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is expected to open sometime in summer 2026. Construction is already in full swing, and coaster track is being installed piece by piece. We'll keep you posted with updates as the opening gets closer!
