It's time for the Frog Family's weekly roundup of Disney and Orlando theme park tidbits from the interwebs.
We love comments! Drop us a line below if you have something to share.
This week’s highlights:
-
While it was announced a little bit earlier in the week, we -- OK, Mommy Frog and Lily -- are most excited about Merida officially becoming Disney's 11th princess. She will be honored in a royal coronation May 11 at Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom and will be joined by the other princesses. There has been some debate about the merit of Merida as a Disney princess, but we think she fully embodies the spirit of a modern princess.
-
The month of May is already proving to be quite spectacular for theme park visitors. May 4th will bring a special celebration of "Star Wars" at Disney's Hollywood Studios ("May the 4th Be With You) for children AND parents, which will keep the park open until midnight.
-
You probably saw that Universal announced the grand opening date for Transformers: The Ride-3D for June 20, but did you see the Decepticon that “crashed” the Fairwinds Credit Union Tower in downtown Orlando? As Tad likes to say, "It was awesome!"
-
We got a sneak peek at some of the merchandise coming to the parks this summer, some in conjunction with Disney's Monstrous Summer, including this adorable Duffy the Bear in Sully costume.
-
The Orlando Sentinel explores kids' delight in the play areas at Disney's theme parks, the Honey I Shrunk the Audience play area at Disney's Hollywood Studios in particular.
-
While we’re not even half way through 2013, Disney has announced a new daytime parade at Magic Kingdom for 2014, the Festival of Fantasy.
-
The Disney Parks Blog kicks off a new series devoted to the Magic of Storytelling. The first post is devoted to a beloved park attraction: Pirates of the Caribbean.
-
The Today Show will be spending the day at Universal Orlando on May 23 as part of its Great American Adventure.
- It’s the final weekend to catch Viva La Musica at SeaWorld Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. El Gran Combo will be performing at both parks.
That’s all for this week. Until next week, happy planning!
