During most years, Knott's Merry Farm puts Knott’s Berry Farm into the holiday spirit and transforms the Orange County theme park into a winter wonderland. Festive lights, holiday treats and cheery entertainment will have froglets of all ages feeling merry and bright. This is no ordinary year, however, and Knott's has introduced a Taste of Merry Farms for 2020. This guide will walk you through everything your family needs to know before heading to the traditional Knott's Merry Farm, at this berry-themed, theme park just a 10-minute drive from Disneyland Resort!
Most of the Knott's Merry Farm information below is from 2019, so you can plan for when things "return to normal," but we frogs did hop over to experience the Taste of Merry Farms this year and have updated our Knott's Berry Farm events post with all of those scrumptious details! The actual theme park remains closed due to COVID-19 and awaits government approval before it can fully reopen. Even though rides cannot operate, Knott's isn't letting the pandemic get in the way of the holidays. It's celebrating with a continuation of its food, wine, beer and shopping events (which ran through summer and fall) with a Taste of Merry Farm. The event takes place select days from Nov. 20 through Jan. 3, 2020.
To attend a Taste of Merry Farm, you'll need a tasting card (you must purchase online in advance) to enter and acquire your tastes of food and drink. Parking is free. You can shop and enjoy holiday decor and music in between feasting on holiday dishes and treats. It may not be the full Knott's Merry Farm experience, but it will give you a taste of the full event with over 60 food and beverage items. That sounds like a lot of difficult choices to make! You can find the details (along with new health and safety protocols) in our Knott's berry Farm reopening post.
Read on to know what you might expect at Knott's Merry Farm during a normal year. We have our hopes set on 2021!
Knott’s Merry Farm Dates
Knott’s Merry Farm was open every day, Nov. 22, 2019, through Jan. 5, 2020, except for Christmas.
Hours varied based on the day, but typically the weekend had longer hours, while Mondays through Thursdays are shorter.
Crowds will intensify on holiday weeks (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Eve), especially on the weekends. If you can, we recommend taking your froglets during a week day, or earlier in the holiday season.
Tickets for Knott’s Merry Farm 2019 are already available for purchase. You’ll find a variety of ticket options. The prices vary and have additional taxes and fees. Knott’s Merry Farm offers a variety of holiday treats to try throughout the park. After some delicious research, here are our top three savory and top three sweet recommendations:
Turkey Breaded Bites (Santa’s Christmas Cabin): Thanksgiving and Christmas all in one, the turkey breaded bite creates a savory concoction of cranberry sauce, turkey and stuffing in a single deep-fried ball.
Mac Lorraine (Wagon Wheel Pizza): This one is an absolute must for cheese lovers. Each bite contains thick melted white cheese, bacon bits and chives, wrapped into warm, fluffy naan bread.
Holiday Poutine (La Papa Loca): You don’t have to travel to Canada to try poutine. Knott’s Merry Farm has made their own version of this rich Northern treat: sweet potato fries, cheese curds, turkey, gravy and cranberries.
Eggnog and Peppermint Milkshakes (Coasters Diner): A delight for the tongue and for Instagram, the milkshakes at Coasters Diner will leave your sweet tooth quite satisfied. The peppermint milkshake crushed candy cakes, red and white roulade cake, peppermint chocolate bark and whipped cream. For an even richer dessert, opt for the eggnog milkshake, made with white frosting, gingerbread cake, whipped cream and sprinkles.
Holiday Funnel Cakes (Ghost Town Grub): It wouldn’t be a trip to Knott’s without some funnel cake! Try one with a Knotts holiday twist: Maple Pecan, Horchata, S’mores or Peppermint. Each funnel cake is also topped with powdered sugar and a dollop of vanilla ice cream.
Eggnog Christmas Tree Cheesecake on a Stick (Grand Bakery, Ghost Town Bakery): Our personal favorite! We couldn’t get enough of this treat — a mixture of creamy eggnog cream, a graham cracker crust, dipped in white chocolate ganache and covered in thick, festive frosting.
There are plenty of other holiday treats to choose from, including a Christmas Chicago dog, fried green beans, apple pie pizza, Christmas cookie dough bits (another strong recommendation from us), gingerbread bundt cake and more.

Merry Christmas Snoopy!: A Knott’s classic, the Christmas ice show brings the magic of the holidays to life, with world-class ice skaters and Snoopy himself twirling and spinning across the stage. Join in the fun with well-known holiday tunes, plus some new ones created just for the show! Located in the beautiful Charles M. Schulz theater. Showing on select days, closed on Wednesdays.
A PEANUTS Guide to Christmas: This show as made for tadpoles and froglets. Say hi to Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy and the rest of the gang as they share some Christmas cheer (and holiday survival tips) on the Camp Snoopy stage. Performances are daily.
Home for the Holidays: New to the park this year, “Home for the Holidays” invites frog families to sing, dance and let in the joy of the holidays. Enjoy classic holiday songs and timeless seasonal traditions. Located at the Calico Mine Stage.
A Christmas Carol & Marley’s Wings: Many long-time Knott’s season passholders call this holiday tradition a favorite. The historic Bird Cage Theater (located in Ghost Town) is home to the blackbox theater-style rendition of “A Christmas Carol” and its sequel, “Marley’s Wings.”
More Holiday Fun
Santa’s Christmas Cabin: If you want to meet Santa, feast on some sweet holiday treats, or sample some wine (for the 21+ frogs), Santa’s Christmas Cabin is the place to be. Upon entering, frog families are greeted with the aroma of roasted nuts and baked goods, and the sight of Santa on his chair, twinkling lights and an overall atmosphere of merriment.
Christmas Carolers: Keep an eye out for Christmas Carolers on the streets of Ghost Town. They spread holiday cheer throughout the day and are a pleasure to listen to.
Snow and Glow: Experience a magical snow fall and light show in Ghost Town once the sun sets. Occurs hourly from sundown until the park closes.
Nightly Christmas Tree Lighting: Is there anything better than a good old-fashioned Christmas tree lighting? Gather together at Calico Square and witness the nightly Christmas tree lighting at sunset.
- Buy the Fast Lane pass to ensure the froglets get on all the rides they want to during your visit.
- Buy online to save off Front Gate prices and guarantee they don’t sell out the day you want to visit.
- Check the weather and dress in layers, as California winter weather tends to be cold in the mornings and evenings, but warm in the afternoons.
- Grab a map and list of showtimes when you enter the park.
- Bring water and snacks for the long day, but save room for lots of the sweet and savory treats!
- If you can, try and stay until the sun goes down. The true magic of Knott’s Merry Farm happens with the Christmas tree lighting, and the festive vignettes and lights found throughout the park.
