What to Know About Seeing Phish Perform Live
Phish formed in 1983 when its band members — guitarist and lead singer Trey Anastasio, bassist Mike Gordon, drummer Jon Fishman and guitarist Jeff Holdsworth — were in college together at the University of Vermont. Keyboardist Page McConnell joined the band in 1985 while Holdsworth departed in 1986, but ever since then, the band members have remained the same. Phish’s music blends a variety of genres including funk, reggae, rock, pop, folk, country, jazz, blues and electronic music. The band’s popularity rose significantly in the mid-1990s as part of the “jam band” movement. During that time, their devoted fan base grew as audiences shared recordings of their concerts on the internet. Their outdoor festival events also paved the way for modern music festivals, such as Bonnaroo Music Festival. Despite a couple of breaks in the 2000s, Phish is still going strong over 40 years later. They're well known for their live performances and are known to consistently switch up setlists so that no two shows are the same.
In 2024, Phish is set to perform at the new MSG Sphere in Las Vegas for four days in April. Then, starting in July, the band will go on a 26-date Summer Tour, which includes the four-day Mondegreen Festival in Dover, DE.
