Top 5 Orlando Coasters

by Tad on September 6, 2011

Everyone has their favorite roller coasters, but I don’t think I’m alone in naming the following five coasters the best in Orlando. Here’s a breakdown of what pushed these thrill rides to the top of my list (with video evidence when available). Incredible Hulk1. The Incredible Hulk Coaster (Islands of Adventure) It’s big, it’s mean…and it’s GREEN! I know what you’re thinking…I’m a frog so I picked it because of the color. Nope, I picked The Incredible Hulk because of the power!

2. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (Hollywood Studios) The initial acceleration of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster made this an easy choice. Going from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, 3 inversions and a 32,000 watt onboard audio system…it was a no-brainer. (Check out my POV video here.)Manta - Seaworld 3. Manta (SeaWorld) Flying face-down in a horizontal position under the belly of the coaster with speeds of up to 60 mph? Sounds like the Manta and sounds like one of my favorite coasters in Orlando. (Watch a video of Manta here.)

4. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit (Universal Studios) Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is a favorite for several reasons: The speed (65 mph), the height (17 stories over Universal Studios) and THE MUSIC! It’s being able to Expedition Everest - Walt Disney World Resortlisten to Sabotage by the Beastie Boys that secures this coaster’s spot in the Top 5.

5. Expedition Everest (Animal Kingdom) My taste tends toward “scarier” coasters than Expedition Everest, but I do love reaching the end of the track then being thrust backwards. It’s a must-do and must-do-again at Animal Kingdom. (Check out my POV video here.)

Honorable Mentions: Dragon Challenge (Islands of Adventure) for its numerous inversions and choice of red or blue. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (Magic Kingdom) for it’s traditional flavor and nighttime twist. Kraken (SeaWorld) for how long it lasts and going upside down SEVEN times.
