Boston Red Sox Team Overview
Founded in 1901, the Boston Red Sox have stayed a part of Boston’s history throughout the franchise’s existence. Fenway Park became the team’s home field in 1912, and it continues to be the oldest active ballpark in MLB. As part of the AL East division, the Red Sox regularly face the Tampa Bay Rays, Baltimore Orioles, Toronto Blue Jays and their long-standing rival, the New York Yankees.
The team has a dominant history with nine World Series championships (the third-most of any MLB team), 14 AL pennants, 10 AL East division titles and eight Wild Card berths. Though he achieved his greatest fame as a Yankee, Babe Ruth, who’s considered one of the greatest players of all time, started his career with the Boston Red Sox. Other notable former Red Sox and Hall of Fame players include Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski and Wade Boggs, along with modern legend, David Ortiz.
