Visit One of Baseball's Most Historic Fields: Fenway Park

2 Boston

Take me out to the ballgame! But not just any ballgame. Fenway Park, located in Boston, MA, is the oldest and one of the most iconic baseball stadiums in use today — serving as the home of the world-famous Boston Red Sox. Now that's a ballgame! Over a century old, this field is the dream of players and fans alike. Known for its cozy seating, the Green Monster and for being the heart of this historically and culturally rich city, Fenway Park is not to be missed. Beyond its role as a historic baseball stadium, Fenway also hosts huge concerts. Let's jump into all you need to know about this venue!

Overview of Fenway Park

Fenway Park is a historical landmark and MLB's oldest baseball stadium still standing today. Opened in 1912, it's easy to spot this iconic space by the giant green wall, known as the Green Monster, which divides the field from the highway next door. Whether you're a major baseball fan or just feel like sitting back and enjoying a game, Fenway is the place for that classic ballgame experience.

In addition to Red Sox games, Fenway Park welcomes legendary musical acts. You can catch upcoming acts such as Pearl Jam and Post Malone in September 2024.

Look for the Teammates statue outside of the stadium comprising of these Red Sox legends:

  • Ted Williams
  • Bobby Doerr
  • Johnny Pesky
  • Dom DiMaggio

You can see a display of all the retired Red Sox jerseys on the right side of the field:

  • Ted Williams (9)
  • Joe Cronin (4)
  • Bobby Doerr (1)
  • Carl Yastrzemski (8)
  • Carlton Fisk (27)
  • Johnny Pesky (6)
  • Jim Rice (14)
  • Pedro Martinez (45)
  • Wade Boggs (26)
  • David Ortiz (34)
  • Jackie Robinson (42) (retired by Major League Baseball in 1997)

Where Is Fenway Park Located?

Fenway is located at 4 Jersey St, Boston, MA 02215. Centrally located in the city, the field is hard to miss! It's found in a neighborhood of Boston called Fenway, right next to the Fenway Victory Gardens. As Boston is a walking city, most people use landmarks to direct themselves to their destination. A giant Citgo sign is your beacon to the park.

Fenway Park Arrival Information — Parking and Transportation

Parking options around Fenway are limited. The stadium highly recommends taking public transit to get to a game or concert. There are a few lots surrounding the area, so if you do have to take a vehicle, make sure you are parking at one along your route to help keep traffic down during games and events.

Transportation Hubs, Buses and Trains

You can get pretty much anywhere in Boston by hopping on "the T." The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority offers subways, trains and buses to get all around the city. And there are a few that will drop you off right at the field!

  • Lansdowne Station on the Commuter Rail line
  • Kenmore Station on the Green line

Traveling with the MBTA is really simple and comfortable in Boston. There are plenty of easy-to-read maps inside every station and at every bus stop, and the subway cars and buses come and go constantly. So even if you miss yours, the next one is right around the corner.

Fenway Park Seating

The stadium has a large array of different seating and pricing. Sit right at the pitch, over the dugouts, in the grandstand, the outfield or even way atop the Green Monster itself!

When you purchase tickets through Undercover Tourist, you can look at the stadium map to find the right seat for your budget and viewing preferences. You can even see photos from your chosen seat to make sure you get the view you desire. The good news is that most seats are quite affordable!

One of the most famous seats in Fenway Park is known as the Ted Williams "red seat." In row 37 of section 42, you'll find a red chair in a whole stadium of classic greens. Seat 21 marks the 502-foot home run hit by Ted Williams in 1946. Since then, the famous seat has served as a sort of target for players who hit left-handed. Who wouldn't test their skills against one of the best hitters to ever play the game? The fact that no one has ever come close makes the red seat an even more special homage to Ted Williams.

What to Know Before You Go

Here are a few tips you'll want to keep in mind before visiting:

  • Bag Policy: Wallets, purses, drawstring bags, fanny packs, lunch bags and briefcases smaller than 12 x 12 x 6 inches in size are permitted. Exceptions are made for medical bags and diaper bags for young children. Bags are subject to inspection. No backpacks (including clear backpacks), hard-sided coolers (regardless of size) and bags larger than 12 x 12 x 6 inches.
  • Prohibited Items: Avoid bringing alcoholic beverages, pepper spray, firearms, knives and any other kind of weapon, professional-grade cameras, hard-sided coolers, noise-making devices, laser pointers, any can, bottle or glass (other than one sealed 16 oz plastic bottle of water) costumes and masks and clothing items that are determined offensive. Refer to the security page for details.
  • Cashless Stadium: The stadium operates entirely cashless. Bring credit cards or use Apple Pay. Place all concessions orders through the MLB Ballpark app or a scanned QR code. In-seat vending is also available.
  • Digital Tickets: All tickets are digital and can be accessed via the MLB Ballpark app.
  • Charging Stations: Charge your phone with multiple ChargeFUZE locations throughout the stadium. Scan the QR code to rent one of the portable chargers and return it to any location when you're done.
  • Fenway Park Tours: Get a behind-the-scenes look at "America's Most Beloved Ballpark." Call 617-226-6666 or visit mlb.tickets.com for information.
  • First Time at Fenway: Get a digital first-timer certificate made at the Fan Information Booth.
  • Visit Lansdowne St: Get to the game early and explore Lansdowne! The whole street is blocked off for pedestrians and there are many bars with live music to meander in and out of before the game starts. We recommend hitting the Bleacher Bar (located inside of the Green Monster!) to grab a beer and see the field through an open garage door before the game starts. Jersey St is also closed for pedestrian access. This is where you will find the merchandise stores for all your Red Sox gear needs.

i am surprising my husband for our 33rd wedding anniversary to a trip to Boston. We have never been there & would love to see Fenway park & a red sox game. It will either be Sat Sept 21st or Sunday Sept 22nd. i don't know where to sit for sure but most likely not the bleacher seats. If you have any advice that would be helpful. We don't want to spend over $100 each for the tickets though. Thank you.

Hi Barb!

Hoppy anniversary!! We like sitting in the Grandstand seats just left of home plate, which are usually around $50. A plus is that you're protected from the elements, but you'll want to make sure a pole is not obstructing your view so we'd recommend seats within the first few rows. The Loge Box sections are closer to the field, though pricier with seats around $90-110.

Keep hopping!
