Kansas City Chiefs Overview
The Kansas City Chiefs were founded all the way back in 1960 as the Dallas Texans. In 1963, owner Lamar Hunt moved the team to Kansas City. It was then that he renamed the team after the city's mayor, H. Roe Bartle, who was nicknamed "Chief" — having famously spent many years as a Boy Scout executive. In 1972, the Chiefs moved to their current home, Arrowhead Stadium, which is considered one of the best stadiums in the world due to its sleek seating design and acoustics. In fact, in 2014, Chiefs fans set the record for the loudest crowd noise ever recorded at a sports stadium at 142.2 decibels.
In recent years, the team has risen to dynastic status under head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Reid is now just one of 14 head coaches in NFL history to win multiple championships. Mahomes, on the other hand, has won Super Bowl MVP 3 times and Most Valuable Player in the NFL twice. The Chiefs as a whole are one of just 10 teams in history to own three or more Lombardi Trophies.
