FAQs

  • How can I maximize time at the Oogie Boogie Bash? You'll maximize time at the Oogie Boogie Bash if you arrive early, follow a park plan, prioritize party-specific entertainment and follow the shortest lines. It also helps to eat during pre-party mix-in time, take photos while it's light out and hop in your most-important character line before the party starts.
  • When should I arrive for Oogie Boogie Bash? You can enter the park as early at 3 p.m. Allow extra time to park, go through security and get into the park, especially on Sundays. We recommend walking from your hotel or parking at the Toy Story Lot.
  • When is the best time to visit the Villain's Grove? Visit the Villains Grove during one of Madame Leota's Swinging Wakes for shorter lines.
  • Any tips? Undercover Tourist offers specialized tips for kids or adults in a downloadable oogie-boogie-bash-party-park-plan PDF!. Hop back closer to the event for an updated 2026 version!
  • How can we save on hotel stays? Oogie Boogie Bash runs late. It helps to stay close by. You can save on your nearby hotel stay or for a Disneyland Resort hotel stay when you book through Undercover Tourist.

Pre-Party and Arrival Tips for Oogie Boogie Bash

Our Oogie Boogie Bash Party Park Plan to Maximize Your Time - Cast member with map and candy bag at check-inYou can arrive as early as 3 p.m. to enjoy the park before the party gets going. Lines to get in can be long — especially on Sundays when many locals don't have school and work to deal with — so arriving early can be a smart move so you do not waste any party time waiting outside the park. If you can arrive before 3 p.m., you can maximize your pre-party time. You can read up on the party in advance so you know what to expect and what will be open or closed during the party.

We arrived to the Mickey & Friends parking structure at 3 p.m. on a Sunday and did not get to the park entrance until 5 p.m. And that includes walking to the Downtown Disney entrance to avoid the long security lines at the parking structure. We have had better luck parking at the Toy Story Lot and on weekdays. You might even consider parking at GardenWalk. Our Disneyland parking post has all the details for parking on-site and off-site. You might want to arrive extra early and dine in Downtown Disney to avoid the parking rush.

So, what should you do during the pre-party time?

1. Collect Your Map

First of all, take a look at your event guide and map that you receive after entering. It will tell you where to find the treat trails, food and merchandise. It does not, however, tell you which characters are appearing outside of treat trails. But that's okay. We do, in our Oogie Boogie Bash characters post. Set up a game plan for the night and identify your must-see characters or any must-try party foods.

2. Take Photos

This is a great time to capture your toadally cool costumes while it’s light out and before your makeup and hair get affected by rides, food, heat, etc. You may even see some photo-ops out near Carthay Circle and around the park. Plus there are several Halloween Time photo ops in the park as well.

3. Eat Early

Unless there are some party foods you are dying to try, use tpre-partyis time to fuel up so you do not waste too much party time in food lines and eating. There are many Halloween Time treats and foods! (Set up mobile orders in advance for some items before and during the party.) We like to have a filling meal at Wine Country Trattoria or get some quick-service items before the fun begins. We don't want to spend precious party time in search of food. Another option is to dine in Downtown Disney before the event.

We find that most restaurants close by 10 p.m., so don't leave eating to the end of the event.

4. Meet Characters

Around Carthay Circle and Buena Vista Street you'll see Disney characters in their daytime Halloween costumes. It's a great time to meet them and take photos. Then you can see them later in their party clothes.

5. Take Tadpoles to Mickey's Trick and Treat before the party gets started.

The show is now just a daytime show. The last show times are usually 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. during normal park hours. And you still get candy at the end!

6. Go on Rides

Pre-party time for partygoers mixes in with day guests, so ride wait times can be long, but if you find a short ride line, go for it. Ride lines are usually much shorter an hour into party time though and the shortest in the last hour of the night. (If you hoppen to also have a daytime park ticket with Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you can make some Lightning Lane selections for Disney California Adventure between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to skip the lines. Lightning Lane Multi Pass does not operate during party hours.)

7. Experience Attractions that Close Early

Redwood Creek Challenge Trail closes by 4:30 p.m. Grizzly River Run closes at 8 p.m., but if you have special costumes, hair and makeup to preserve, you might not want to get wet.

8. Get a Head Start on Party Stuff

Hop in line for your favorite party character before the party starts. Or if your priority is must-have party merchandise, find the right spot before the party starts. A good choice is getting in line early for Minnie, Daisy and Clarabelle as the Sanderson Sisters in the World of Color viewing area. It often has the longest line of the night.

9. Locate Merchandise Locations

You can find party-exclusive items at Seaside Souvenirs, Elias & Co., Gone Hollywood and the cart across from Cars Land. These items may come out before the party starts. If you see something you want, buy it then. Do not wait because it can sell out. Also, all the shops close right at 11 p.m., so purchase before the party ends.

10. Get a Locker if You Want One

All that candy gets heavy! If trick-or-treating is a priority for you, a locker can save your back if you periodically make some candy deposits throughout the night. It's also a great place to store sweatshirts for later, merch, extra water and anything else you don't want to lug around. (That includes costume elements the kids decide they want you to carry for them after a while.)

Oogie Boogie Bash Park Plan for Party Time in 2026

Our Oogie Boogie Bash Party Park Plan to Maximize Your Time Hades in red

The party officially kicks off at 6 p.m. There’s more than one way to conquer this party, based on your interests. Character meet and greets always have the longest lines at Oogie Boogie Bash. If you can already be in line to meet your must-see character before the party starts, hopfully you can fit in multiple characters. If it’s not, the Villain-themed treat trails have really fun characters in them. You can usually parade by their stage as you get your candy but you don’t get individual time with them. They are often performing or talking to the crowd. If that satisfies you, you can save a lot of party time seeing characters in that way without waiting for an individual photo, hug or autograph. And you are multi-tasking because you are collecting candy as you enjoy the character.

Do not wait in a long character trail line. Skip a long line for a short one and come back. Lines get shorter as the night goes on. That being said, the treat trail character lines do move along pretty quickly.

If you want to see Hades, wait to see him after it gets dark, and stick around for him his hair to change color.

Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party art for Oogie Boogie Bash

There's a new offering in 2026! Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party brings familiar and iconic moments from the Haunted Mansion to the streets of California Adventure. The new street party features multiple show-stopping moments for Madame Leota to host her spirited séance and swinging wake filled with happy haunts, ghostly dancing and ghoulish delight.

Hop back after opening night to get the Undercover Tourist frog squad tips for how to tackle this new entertainment, where to stand and when to hop in place.

You'll need to budget time for this street party into your Oogie Boogie Bash park plan.

  1. Start your party already in line for a character or party merchandise if that’s important to you. (Cast members may cap a line if it gets too long. The Kingdom Hearts characters and newest villains have the longest lines, as do the Sanderson Sisters.)
  2. Wait until later to trick-or-treat. The lines are long at the beginning, but they drop off a lot by 8 p.m.
  3. Go through Villain Treat Trails (see locations below and hit the ones with the shortest lines).
  4. Get in place 30 to 40 minutes early if you're watching the Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake – A Haunted Mansion Street Party, or consider the Oogie Boogie Bash Dessert Party, which has treats themed to "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and an enhanced view of the street party.
  5. Hop by more Villain Treat Trails or character meet and greets (lines are shorter during and just after the wake), plus some have elements that look cooler in the dark.
  6. Do any Halloween ride overlays or must-do rides (if you visit often, save the rides for another visit).
  7. Stop by Animation Academy.
  8. Wrap up with the Villains Grove Trail (or visit when it first opens at 8 p.m. or during a street party). Sometimes it opens early.
  9. Enjoy the projections on Carthay Circle and the Headless Horseman statue.

Attractions That Close Early or Are Closed for Refurbishment

Our Oogie Boogie Bash Party Park Plan to Maximize Your Time - Headless Horseman

Keep in mind that a few attractions close early. You might want to visit these during pre-party or early party time:

  • Redwood Creek Challenge Trail closes at 4:30 p.m.
  • Grizzly River Run closes at 8 p.m.
  • Mickey’s PhilharMagic closes at 5 p.m. and opens from 6 to 10 p.m.
  • Some rides may be under refurbishment.

Hours are subject to change. Look up hours online in the Disneyland app.

Trick-or-Treat Trail Locations With Characters

Our Oogie Boogie Bash Party Park Plan to Maximize Your Time - Maleficent

There were two new villains in 2025:

  • Syndrome (replacing Sid) at Pixar Pier
  • Maleficent (returning from a few years ago and replacing Madame Mim) at Grizzly Peak (look for projections at night)

Our Oogie Boogie Bash Party Park Plan to Maximize Your Time -Dr. Doofenschmirtz

Keep in mind that character appearances and locations are subject to change. Here is where to find the returning villains in their treat trails.

Here were the 2025 returning characters (and some could be swapped out for new villains in 2026):

  • Judge Doom — New location in Hollywood Backlot with photo ops and signs in queue
  • Yokai — In San Fransokyo Square

Our Oogie Boogie Bash Party Park Plan to Maximize Your Time - Ernesto de la Cruz

  • Ernesto de la Cruz — Hyperion Theater Courtyard
  • Agatha Harkness — Avengers Campus Sanctum (with a new entrance to the Witches Road behind her
  • Oogie Boogie — Inside Disney Animation
  • Dr. Doofenschmirtz in Disney Jr. Theater

Our Oogie Boogie Bash Party Park Plan to Maximize Your Time - Agatha with Witches Road

2025 Character Meet and Greet Locations

Our Oogie Boogie Bash Party Park Plan to Maximize Your Time - New Sanderson\ Sisters area with bubbles

Some characters have meet-and-greet areas without treat trails (they are not named on the park map, so use this guide or the Disneyland app to find them):

  • Minnie, Daisy and Clarabelle Cow as the Sanderson Sisters — in World of Color viewing area (with new smoke bubbles coming from their cauldron)
  • "Hercules" characters — Eureka Wheel at Grizzly Peak
  • Disney Animated Characters — It's pretty easy to see these characters and find short lines at the Carthay Circle fountains. We spotted Tweedledum and Tweedledee
  • Kingdom Hearts Disney characters — Bountiful Valley Hideaway
  • Pixar Characters — Near Poultry Palace at Pixar Pier
  • Toy Story characters — in front of Toy Story Midway Mania!
  • Incredibles — Incredicoaster water feature
  • Residents of Cars Land — Cozy Cone Motel, near Luigi's and just outside Avengers Campus
  • Avengers — Avengers Campus (we saw the Scarlet Witch and Red Guardian).

The longer lines tend to be Sanderson Sisters and the newest treat trails, however treat trails tend to move faster. If characters are a priority, hop in line for your favorite at least 30 minutes before the party starts.

Our Oogie Boogie Bash Party Park Plan to Maximize Your Time - Lighting McQueen in Cars Land

If you plan to hop in line closer to the end of the night, ask a cast member and confirm when the line closes so you don't miss out (just in case it's set to close early!). The lines can close before park close.
