What Is Perfect Day at CocoCay?
Perfect Day at CocoCay is Royal Caribbean's award-winning private island in the Berry Islands in the Bahamas (about 55 miles north of Nassau). The island is approximately one mile long and a third of a mile wide and was originally known as Little Stirrup Cay. Currently, the island welcomes around 2 million visitors each year, with a daily capacity of about 6,000 guests.
CocoCay is easy to explore in a single day, with beaches, pools, dining areas, overwater cabanas and Thrill Waterpark all within reach. Since the island is only about a mile long, you won't feel overwhelmed trying to see it all.
Fun fact: The island next to CocoCay is Great Stirrup Cay, which is a private island owned by Norwegian Cruise Line. You can see Great Stirrup Cay from several areas of CocoCay, especially if you're near Chill Island or Oasis Lagoon.
Which Cruise Ships Visit CocoCay?
Almost all Royal Caribbean ships that sail Caribbean and Bahamian itineraries stop at CocoCay, except for a few. In 2025, the ships that will not visit are Brilliance of the Seas, Navigator of the Seas, Ovation of the Seas, Quantum of the Seas and Spectrum of the Seas. In addition to Royal Caribbean, you may also see Celebrity Cruises ships at CocoCay. Celebrity is Royal Caribbean's sister company, and select ships, including Celebrity Reflection, Celebrity Beyond, Celebrity Apex and Celebrity Equinox, now visit the island.

Getting to CocoCay
The Royal Caribbean ships will dock at CocoCay, usually two at a time, and you'll walk right onto the island from the pier (about a six-minute walk). Ships typically arrive early in the morning, and guests can stay on the island until mid to late afternoon, depending on the sailing schedule. If bad weather rolls in, conditions can occasionally prevent a stop at CocoCay, so be prepared for possible changes to your itinerary.
A tram service runs throughout the island every 15 minutes or so. The tram has seven stops, including Arrivals Plaza, South Beach, Oasis Lagoon, Chill Island and Hideaway Beach. There's also a special tram service that runs for Coco Beach Club guests during busy periods. The service is free and operates continuously throughout the day.
CocoCay is wheelchair and stroller accessible, with paved pathways and ramps across the island. Complimentary beach-accessible wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis. A limited number of beach-friendly strollers are also available (subject to availability).
Perfect Day at CocoCay Weather Conditions
CocoCay enjoys warm weather year-round, with slight seasonal variations:
- Winter (December to February): Highs are in the mid-70s to low 80s, cooler evenings with lower humidity.
- Spring (March to May): Highs are in the upper 70s to mid-80s, with lots of sunshine and little rainfall.
- Summer (June to August): Hot and humid, with temperatures in the high 80s to low 90s. Afternoon showers or thunderstorms are common.
- Fall (September to November): Similar to summer but with a higher chance of rain due to hurricane season.
Hurricane season runs from June to November, with the highest likelihood of storms in September and October. If a hurricane or tropical storm affects the area, Royal Caribbean will adjust itineraries to avoid bad weather, which may include skipping CocoCay or substituting another port for safety.
Water temperatures range from the mid-70s in winter to the mid-80s in summer, so you can plan on hitting the beaches and pools year-round.
Perfect Day at CocoCay Map
CocoCay is designed with different areas for adventure, relaxation, family-friendly activities and even dedicated spaces for adults. Here's a breakdown of what to expect in each of the different areas. Before you go, make sure to download the Royal Caribbean app. You can use the app to plan your vacation in advance, check-in for your cruise, book shore excursions, research restaurant menus and more.
Things to Do at Perfect Day at CocoCay Bahamas
Arrivals Plaza
This is where you'll enter the island from the pier, and you may even be greeted by a live junkanoo band! There are maps, shaded areas and crew members ready to guide travelers in the right direction. A little more inward is Captain Jack's, where you can unwind on a bar swing with a tropical drink in hand, or grab a complimentary bite at Skipper's Grill. You'll also notice the start of the CocoCay Zipline and the entrance to Thrill Island Waterpark.
Thrill Island
This is where you'll find the biggest and most thrilling attractions. Thrill Island Waterpark is an additional fee, and it gets busy fast, so arriving early is key. You can purchase your admission in advance (on the Royal Caribbean website or app) or once you're on the island. You'll scan your SeaPass card to enter the water park. Children under 14 years of age will need to be accompanied by someone 14 years old or above.
- Thrill Waterpark — Home to Daredevil's Tower, a 135-foot waterslide, plus the multi-slide Splash Summit, the Wave Pool and the obstacle-course style Adventure Pool.
- Up, Up & Away — The rainbow-colored helium balloon ride that floats up to 450 feet high for aerial views of CocoCay.
- CocoCay Zipline — This attraction starts near Arrivals Plaza and takes you across multiple sections, soaring over Thrill Waterpark and Harbor Beach. The total length is over 1,600 feet. The height requirement is 48 inches, and riders must weigh between 75 and 275 pounds. Riders under 16 must be accompanied by a ticketed parent or legal guardian. Closed-toe shoes are required.
Oasis Lagoon
Oasis Lagoon is the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean. It holds a massive 800,000 gallons of water and is split into three coves. There's a quiet space, a larger family-friendly area with a sloped entry and the Swim Up Bar. Throughout the pool, in-water loungers run the perimeter. And be sure to listen closely — you'll hear music playing under the water!
Surrounding the entire area are lounge chairs and umbrellas. For an additional fee, you can splurge on a private cabana, complete with a cabana attendant.
Chill Island
Chill Island is the main beach area with powdery white sand and calm turquoise waters. Across the entire beach area are free loungers and umbrellas. There's also the option to upgrade to a daybed or private cabana for the day. The private cabanas can accommodate up to eight guests and come with attendant service.
Volleyball, basketball and cornhole can be found at the Sports Pavilion in the Breezy Bay area.
For even more adventure, stop by the Snorkel Shack to rent snorkel gear or book a guided Wave Jet Tour. When it's time to refuel, head to Chill Grill in the heart of the beach area. Enjoy complimentary menu items, from tacos to barbecue chicken and other Caribbean-inspired bites. (More on dining below!)
South Beach
South Beach is another beach area on the island opposite Arrivals Plaza. There's a second sports court area, and snorkel rentals are also available here. There's even a floating bar where you can sip a drink while hanging out in the water. It's a hoppenin' spot, but there's still room to kick back if you just want to relax. The free tram makes it easy to get here, and if you want a little extra privacy, there are beachfront cabanas for rent. Nature enthusiasts can enjoy a nature trail between South Beach and Cove Beach.
The Snack Shack, South Beach Bar and Coconut Willie's Bar are the food and beverage options nearby.
Cove Beach
Adjacent to South Beach, this beautiful stretch of beach is tucked away from it all, perfect for those craving a little more tranquility.
Coco Beach Club (exclusive access)
Coco Beach Club is the most exclusive part of the island. It has a quieter and more elevated experience.
Access requires a paid Day Pass, which includes entry to a private beach with cushioned loungers, the clubhouse, an infinity pool and upgraded dining at the Coco Beach Club Restaurant. The restaurant has a higher-end menu, with options such as filet mignon and lobster.
For the ultimate splurge, check out the overwater cabanas. The cabanas include shaded seating areas, a private slide into the ocean and a personal attendant. It's giving Bora-Bora but in the Caribbean!
Harbor Beach
Harbor Beach is a quiet, peaceful spot near Arrivals Plaza and Thrill Waterpark. There's calm water so you can swim, lounge or build sand castles. It's closer to the island's main entrance, so it's a great place to land if you've got tadpoles and plan to head back to the ship for an afternoon nap.
Hideaway Beach (for adults only)
Hideaway Beach is the exclusive adults-only area on the island, and you'll need to purchase a Day Pass for entry. Day Passes are variable but start at about $40 per person. This section just recently opened in January 2024 and is beachside but also has its own pool. In the center of all the action is a live DJ and swim-up bar.
Slice of Paradise serves up pizzas and cocktails, while Hideaway Hut offers fresh ceviche, coconut shrimp baskets, burgers, crispy chicken sandwiches and fresh salads. Both eateries are included with your Hideaway Beach Day Pass. On the Rocks is the main open-air bar, where you can often catch live entertainment. Private cabanas with exclusive infinity pool access are also available for rent.
Splashaway Bay & Captain's Jill's Galleon (for kids)
If you're traveling with the tadpoles, you'll want to head over to Splashaway Bay and Captain Jill's Galleon.
- Splashaway Bay — A free water park that includes slides, water cannons, fountains, a pool and a whirlpool made for toddlers to teens. There's even a drench bucket that tips out, soaking everyone in its path! There is a height requirement of 42 inches.
- Captain Jill's Galleon — A pirate-themed splash zone with water cannons and mini slides. It is located right next to Thrill Water Park and is also free.
Seaside Point
This area is available to rent for private events and weddings.

Royal Caribbean's drink packages from the ship carry over to the island, so if you've purchased a package, you can use it at any of the bars. If you don't have a package, drinks are available for purchase individually. Drink packages cannot be purchased on the island itself, so you'll need to buy one before or during your cruise.
Both gluten-free and vegetarian items are available at all of the island's eateries, as well as more options to meet most dietary requests. Kosher food is not available but can be requested onboard the ship.
Perfect Day at CocoCay Excursions
If you're looking for more to do beyond the beaches and pools, CocoCay has plenty of shore excursions to choose from, from thrilling to relaxing. Most excursions need to be booked in advance through the Royal Caribbean Cruise Planner or onboard at the Shore Excursions Desk. Prices vary depending on demand and season.
Some of the most popular excursions include:
- Swimming with Pigs Tour: Take a short boat ride to a nearby island where you can interact with and feed friendly swimming pigs.
- Jet Ski Tour: A guided ride through the turquoise waters around CocoCay, with stops at nearby cays.
- Parasailing Adventure: Soar high above the island for an incredible bird's-eye view while being harnessed to a parachute towed by a speedboat.
- Glass Bottom Boat Tour: A unique way to explore the marine life beneath the surface, with a guide pointing out tropical fish, coral formations and even possible sea turtles or rays.
Most excursions meet at designated areas on the island, with details provided in your booking confirmation. Many shore excursions, kayak tours and Diver's Den scuba tours meet near Breezy Bay at Chill Island. Some activities, such as jet skiing and parasailing, have weight or age restrictions, so double-check the fine print before booking. If an excursion is canceled due to weather, you'll typically receive a refund or credit.
Planning Your Day at CocoCay
If it's your first time visiting Perfect Day at CocoCay, a little planning will help you make the most of your time. Here's everything you need to know before stepping off the ship.
- Before heading to the island, be sure to bring your SeaPass card, as you'll need it to get on and off the ship and make purchases. Pack essentials such as sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a swimsuit and a cover-up. A waterproof phone case or dry bag is great for keeping valuables safe, and a refillable water bottle helps you stay hydrated. If you've purchased a VOOM internet package, it will be active on CocoCay.
- Don't froget to grab a beach towel from your ship to use during your time at CocoCay, and if you need a fresh one, there are towel exchange stations around the island. Since Royal Caribbean tracks checked-out towels, be sure to bring yours back to the ship to avoid any charges. If you've booked a cabana, towels will be provided for you, and you can leave them there when you're done. You'll need your SeaPass card to check out towels.
- Complimentary lockers are available throughout the island, as well as freshwater showers and restrooms.
- CocoCay is a cashless island, meaning everything is charged to your SeaPass account (the same way you pay for things onboard). This applies to food, drinks, excursions and cabana rentals. The only exception is the CocoCay Straw Market, a small vendor area where local artisans sell handmade goods. If you want to shop there, bring some cash or a credit card.
- Parents, Adventure Ocean and AO Babies are not available on the island. However, the youth clubs will remain open onboard. Lifeguards are available at all the pools and beach areas. We're spilling the beans on why we love sailing Royal Caribbean with kids in this post.
White sand beaches, turquoise water, record-breaking thrills and plenty of chills. Top that all off with complimentary food and drinks — we don't think it gets any more perfect than that! Before you go, share this post with your travel crew and save it to reference as you plan your trip. Haven't booked just yet?
