Slow It Down & Enjoy the Little Things at Disney's Animal Kingdom

by Ashley Metz on April 2, 2013

I hope you've enjoyed this slowing it down series!  So far we've looked at Disney's Hollywood Studios and Epcot.  Today, we are continuing the series over to Disney's Animal Kingdom!  Here are a few of my favorite spots to take a break in this wild place!

Relax and Learn at Rafiki's Planet Watch!

Rafiki's Planet WatchDisney's Animal Kingdom is probably the most "laid back" of Disney World's four theme parks (in my humble opinion)!  I especially love all the shade from the lush, tree-lined walkways and the indoor (air-conditioned) shows.  One of my favorite spots to hang out in the Animal Kingdom is Rafiki's Planet Watch.  From the Conservation Station to the Petting Zoo, you are sure to find a way to break from the hustle and bustle of the parks!

Rafiki's Planet WatchI love that you can have some classic Disney fun with the characters and that you get a hands-on, in-your-face, real-life experience with all of the awesome animals!  From live views of the operating room to informative engagements, this spot has it all!  I hope you'll take the short ride on the Wildlife Express to Rafiki's Planet Watch!

I chose this as a good slow-down spot because: You can really slow things down in this self-paced attraction.  There's plenty of space, air conditioning, shade and fun opportunities for the family!  If you REALLY want to calm things down, get your own listening booth and experience the Rainforest Song with Grandma Willow!

Watch some winged friends at Flights of Wonder!

Flights of WonderI remember the first time I watched this show.  I was in the midst of a year full of ornithology with my kindergarten students, and I couldn't wait to snap a few photos of some birds to share with them!  I had no clue just how "up close and personal" I would get with these feathered friends!  You truly will be entertained and educated while you get to take a few minutes off your feet under the shady tent cover!  If you've never stopped in for a show, give it a try next time you are at Disney's Animal Kingdom.  Don't forget your camera!

I chose this as a good slow-down spot because: It is full of shade, cooling fans and BENCHES!  You'll be entertained while taking a minute to slow things down!

Sit back and enjoy a show at the Festival of the Lion King or Finding Nemo - The Musical!

Finding Nemo The MusicalI love, love, love musicals and plays!  You won't be surprised to hear my love for Disney productions!  My all-time favorite Disney parks' original is Finding Nemo - The Musical!  I'm seriously obsessed, and I make sure to see it at least once every trip!  People around me look at me like a crazy person when I (accidentally) sing along. I really do love the artistry that goes into these mini (way) off Broadway productions!  I can't resist a good show, and I hope you'll give these two a try next time you are at Disney's Animal Kingdom!

I chose this as a good slow-down spot because: Both shows are around 30 minutes long and let you sit back and relax in an air-conditioned theater!  You'll sing, dance, and be amazed by these outstanding shows!

I hope you all enjoyed this look at some of my favorite places to slow it down in Disney's Animal Kingdom!  Maybe you'll give this a try the next time you are visiting this unique park!  Stay tuned for my next post on how you can slow things down and enjoy the Magic Kingdom!  Until then...keep it magical!
