While it's not as busy as July, August is still one of the very busiest months to visit Disney World, especially at the beginning of the month. It is a transitional month as the parks see high traffic in the first few weeks and then fewer crowds as the children (and tadpoles!) head back to school.
Overview of Disney World in August
The good news is that there are normally extended park hours through the first part of August, so you can spend those long summer days and nights having a blast at the theme parks! We highly recommend touring early, taking a break in the afternoon and then coming back to the parks in the evenings for as long as your little ones can handle it. As the crowds start scaling back, Disney adjusts the park hours accordingly.
Crowds at Disney World in August
There will be no avoiding the summer crowds if you're visiting during the first half of the month. As it gets closer to the return of school, the crowd levels begin to decline, and you will even find some very low crowd level days. We recommend downloading our free wait-time app for iPhone before you head to the parks.
To make your planning easier, our Crowd Calendar is available a full year out! We recommend you check the Crowd Calendar when you begin planning your trip to find the best travel dates and then revisiting it again as you get closer to your actual trip to pick the recommended park by day.
Weather at Disney World in August
While the calendar may show summer winding down, Florida in August is still really hot — with an average daily high of 91. It’s a perfect time to consider the Park Hopper with Plus Option, an economical way to take advantage of the theme parks as well as Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Your little frogs will love you for it! Here’s the official packing list for this time of year.
