Your Complete Guide to Walt Disney World Dining

Guide to Disney World Dining - PinterestIf there's a rumbly in your tumbly, we're here to help! With an abundance of toadally mouthwatering options to suit every appetite, dining at Walt Disney World is always a frog family treat. Whether its magical theming, fun character interactions, downright delicious eats, or a combination of all three, Disney World sets up experiences you (and your stomach) won't soon froget. Upon its reopening in July 2020, Disney World instituted some new health and safety measures around the resort to keep both guests and cast members safe, and that includes restaurants (both quick- and table-service). These measures continue to evolve. Don't worry. We'll walk through everything we know about Walt Disney World dining so that you're toadally prepared.

We've got the full scoop on how to prepare, what safety measures are in place and what to expect. Plus more and more restaurants are opening around the resort — so we've got a full list of what's open right now in the theme parks, resorts and Disney Springs too. As more details are released, we'll continue to update this guide, so don't froget to hop back!

Your Compleat Guide to Disney World Dining

Dining at Walt Disney World - Garden Grill EPCOT - Mickey

Before we get to the fun stuff, let's make sure to review the fine print. For dining reservations, keep in mind that you'll need valid admission, plus a Disney Park Pass reservation and a dining reservation for the same park, on the same day; a dining reservation alone does not guarantee access to the park. That means if you're hoping to wave at the Beast at Be Our Guest, you'd need a Park Pass reservation and a dining reservation for Magic Kingdom and Be Our Guest on the same day. Advance Dining Reservations can now be made 60 days out rather than the previous 180 — and Walt Disney World Resort hotel guests may still book reservations for the entirety of their trip at that point, up to 10 days.

Park hopping permissions add an extra layer to this. You will only need a Park Pass reservation for the first park you wish to visit, but you can make a dining reservation at any park. That means if you want to hop to EPCOT in the afternoon for a stroll and some international cuisine, you can make a reservation at Le Cellier without an EPCOT Park Pass reservation. However, it's important to note that the ability to park hop will be subject to capacity limits, which means you aren't guaranteed entry into any particular park. If you find that you aren't able to park hop as planned and have a dining reservation, call Disney Dining at (407) 939-3463 or go to the nearest Guest Relations location to cancel your reservation and avoid a cancellation fee; if you cancel your reservation using the app, you may be charged the traditional cancellation fee, so we highly suggest either calling or stopping by Guest Relations.

Several dining-related programs are temporarily unavailable, including the Disney Dining Plan. Tables in Wonderland memberships will be extended for the number of days the parks are closed. Keep in mind that certain experiences and restaurants may be limited, modified or unavailable. The hoppy news is that more and more restaurants have begun reopening around the property ... and some favorite faces are back in action! Modified character experiences are available at Breakfast a la Art at Topolino's Terrace at Disney's Riviera Resort, Chip 'n' Dale's Harvest Feast at EPCOT's Garden Grill, Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort and Minnie's Seasonal Dining and Disney Junior Play 'n Dine at Hollywood & Vine in Disney's Hollywood Studios.

What to Know Before You Go

Disney World Dining - Standing Tables

Before you dine at Walt Disney World Resort, there are a few things to be aware of or prepare for. It is recommended that guests utilize contactless pay options, such as Apple Pay, or your MagicBand. If you're planning to dine at a table-service restaurant in a Disney Resort hotel, a confirmed dining reservation is required for day guests (those not staying overnight). Reservations are also highly recommended for guests staying overnight at a Disney Resort hotel. There are a select few table-service restaurants at Disney Resort hotels that offer a pick-up option through Mobile Ordering so you can bring your food back to your room.

Disney World Dining - Mobile Check-In

Be sure to download the latest version of the My Disney Experience app. My Disney Experience will be a vital tool for your dining experiences — make sure that location services are enabled! Many technological advancements are now available on the app, including Mobile Check-In (yes, for restaurants as well as hotels) and paperless menus to minimize contact. Mobile Order service has been expanded across the resort, and at some quick-service locations, it's even required to get your food (the only exception is if you don't have a smartphone). My Disney Experience is also the best way to get the most up-to-date information about what's hoppening around the resort.

Walt Disney World Dining Reservations & Walk-Up Lists

Dining at Disney World - Exterior of Garden Grill

You’ll need valid park admission, a reservation for park entry and a dining reservation to dine at an in-park, table-service restaurant. Dining reservations do not guarantee admission to the park.

Guests can make dining and experience reservations up to 60 days in advance. In addition, Disney Resort hotel guests can make reservations up to 60 days in advance, plus the length of their stay (up to 10 days). You can make a dining or experience reservation by using My Disney Experience.

When the parks initially reopened, we noticed that some of the "hard-to-get" reservations, such as Be Our Guest, had a lot of last-minute availability. Now that the crowds have returned, dining reservations have become harder to find once again. If eating at a certain restaurant is a high priority for you, we'd recommend getting a reservation as early as possible.

Disney World Dining - Grand Ballroom of Be Our Guest

At each park since then, we've checked walk-in availability at random table-service restaurants. Disney's Hollywood Studios didn't have many open reservations in advance, and none of the restaurants that we had asked were accepting walk-ins. Via Napoli in Italy at EPCOT had a sign on its door that walk-ins were not being accepted when we passed by. For restaurants that were accepting walk-ins, it largely depends on availability at the exact moment you ask. A host could seat you right then and there if there's space, but would not be able to guarantee availability later.

After a recent update to the My Disney Experience app, you can now view same-day, walk-in availability for select restaurants. When you search for same-day dining reservations in the app, there is a new "Now" option under "Search By Time." It will show restaurants near you with walk-in availability first, then other locations that offer a walk-up list. If a restaurant does not have availability, it will say so. Because this feature is brand-new, it has not been widely rolled out. MDE notes that additional dining locations may have availability, but do not offer a walk-up list via the app.

As crowd levels change, walk-ins may not always be an option, especially for popular restaurants. Again, if it's a high priority for you, make that reservation as soon as possible.

New Disney Dining Health and Safety Measures

Dining at Disney World - Satu'li Canteen Table

New measures have been implemented across Walt Disney World dining locations to promote health and hygiene, including:

  • Enhanced Cleaning: Disney has increased cleaning in high-traffic areas such as public elevators and escalators, handrails, benches, tables, handles, restrooms and more. Additionally, seating areas, dining areas and pagers will be cleaned between guests.
  • Reduced-Contact Menus: Menus will be shared in ways to minimize contact. At quick-service restaurants, menus will be displayed on signage. And at table-service restaurants, you can scan a code with your mobile device to access the digital menu.
  • Self-Serve Changes: Beverages and other items that were previously self-serve will instead be served by cast members.

Disney World is constantly evolving their health and safety measures and may be reducing certain cleaning processes per health guidelines.

Changes in Disney Dining Experiences

Additional changes to Walt Disney World dining experiences include:

  • Menu items may vary. For specific menu information, check the restaurant’s online menu when the restaurant reopens.
  • While many dining locations that offered character dining prior to COVID-19 are continuing to reopen, not all locations currently have characters available. Make sure to double check if character dining is offered. Characters will makes rounds throughout the restaurant and allow for socially distanced photos.
  • Dinner shows are currently unavailable.
  • Dining locations will be limited in capacity. Some locations will remain temporarily closed.
  • Private dining and in-room delivery are temporarily unavailable.
  • Mobile Order service will be offered at select quick-service and table-service dining locations throughout the Walt Disney World theme parks, Disney Springs and select Disney Resort hotels. In some cases, Mobile Ordering may be mandatory.
