Your Complete Guide to Dining at Disney World in 2020

by Mommy Frog on June 25, 2020 Orlando

What to Know About Dining at Disney World in 2020 - PinterestHopping good news! You can now book Walt Disney World Resort hotels for 2020 and 2021! It's a great time to lock in savings for vacations if you're heading to the parks soon. More dates and hotels are being added, so if you don't see your dates, please check back! You can purchase Walt Disney World Resort theme park tickets for 2020 and 2021 too!

If you'll be hopping back to Walt Disney World Resort in 2020, you've probably already heard that the experience may be a little different than what you're used to. After a temporary closure due to COVID-19, the resort is bringing back the magic in phases. Some Disney World Resort hotels and Disney Springs have already begun reopening, and the theme parks will follow July 11 and July 15. With guest and cast member safety top of mind, new health and safety measures are in place around the resort, and that includes restaurants (both quick- and table-service). To limit capacity in restaurants and minimize contact, there are some new procedures in place that you should know about if you'll be dining at Disney World in 2020. Don't worry. We'll walk through everything we know about dining at Disney World in 2020 so that you're toadally prepared.

First thing's first: Disney made the tough call to cancel previously existing Advance Dining Reservations through 2020. Because capacity will be limited in the parks, a new theme park reservation system has also been created. These steps are to ensure that social distancing measures, such as keeping dining tables six feet apart or spacing guests in queues, can be enforced. Advance Dining Reservations have now returned though: If you're planning a trip, your booking window will just be 60 days out rather than 180.

The hoppy news is that you can still dine at most of your favorite restaurants during this initial reopening phase, including Sanaa, Chef Art Smith's Homecomin' and Beaches and Cream Soda Shop. (Don't judge us if you see us eating at all three in one day ... bread service, fried chicken and The Kitchen Sink? YES, PLEASE!)

We've got the full scoop on how to prepare, what safety measures are in place and what this new dining experience will look like. As more details are released, we'll continue to update this guide, so don't froget to hop back!

As we mentioned, several dining-related programs have been canceled for 2020. Those include Advance Dining Reservations (which you can now remake) and the Disney Dining Plan. Tables in Wonderland memberships will be extended for the number of days the parks are closed. Keep in mind that certain experiences and restaurants may be limited or unavailable during this initial reopening phase, including character dining, which will be largely unavailable (the exception being a modified experience at Topolino's Terrace at Disney's Riviera Resort and EPCOT's Garden Grill).

What to Know Before You Go

What to Know About Dining at Disney World in 2020 - Mobile Order at Aloha Isle

Before you dine at Walt Disney World Resort, there are a few things to be aware of or prepare for. Face coverings are required for each guest age 2 and up. They must be worn in all public areas — including while entering and exiting dining locations — but can be removed while eating or drinking.

It's also recommended that guests utilize contactless pay options, such as Apple Pay, or, if you're a Disney Resort hotel guest, your MagicBand. If you're planning to dine at a table-service restaurant in a Disney Resort hotel, a confirmed dining reservation is required for day guests (those not staying overnight). Reservations are also highly recommended for guests staying overnight at a Disney Resort hotel.

Be sure to download the latest version of the My Disney Experience app. My Disney Experience will be a vital tool for your dining experiences — be sure that location services are enabled! Many technological advancements are now available on the app, including Mobile Check-In (yes, for restaurants as well as hotels) and paperless menus to minimize contact. Mobile Order service has been expanded across the resort, and is a great way to save time by ordering ahead at select quick-service spots. My Disney Experience also the best way to get the most up-to-date information about what's hoppening around the resort.

Walt Disney World Dining Reservations

You’ll need valid park admission, a reservation for park entry and a dining reservation to dine at an in-park, table-service restaurant. Dining reservations do not guarantee admission to the park.

Guests can make dining and experience reservations up to 60 days in advance. In addition, Disney Resort hotel guests can make reservations up to 60 days in advance, plus the length of their stay (up to 10 days). You can make a dining or experience reservation by using My Disney Experience.

New Disney Dining Health and Safety Measures

New measures have been implemented across Walt Disney World dining locations to promote health and hygiene, including:

  • Enhanced Cleaning: Disney has increased cleaning in high-traffic areas such as public elevators and escalators, handrails, benches, tables, handles, restrooms and more. Additionally, seating areas, dining areas and pagers will be cleaned between guests.
  • Reduced-Contact Menus: Menus will be shared in ways to minimize contact. At quick-service restaurants, menus will be displayed on signage. And at table-service restaurants, you can scan a code with your mobile device to access the digital menu.
  • Self-Serve Changes: Beverages and other items that were previously self-serve will instead be served by cast members.

Changes in Disney Dining Experiences for 2020

  • Dinner shows will not be offered during the initial reopening.
  • Dining locations will be limited in capacity. Some locations will remain temporarily closed.
  • Private dining and in-room delivery will not be offered during the initial reopening window.
