10 Things We’re Looking Forward to When Disney California Adventure Park Reopens

by Mommy Frog on April 28, 2021 Los Angeles

Looking Forward to When Disney California Adventure Park Reopens - PinterestIt’s so hard to narrow down what we've missed the most about Disneyland Resort, so we had to break it up by park. (That means we also have a whole other list of things we're looking forward to when Disneyland reopens.) There are so many special things that we're looking forward to when Disney California Adventure reopens! While it's true that we Frogs have gotten a taste of that park through Buena Vista Street and A Touch of Disney, these visits really reminded us what we toadally love and miss about this park. Visiting during the theme park closure helped lift our spirits, but it's no replacement for the real deal. We are toadally ready to start our engines, rock out with Rocket, race with Dash and enjoy the Pixar Pier sights and eats — and we're sure we're in good company! Plus we fully expect that Disney California Adventure will be the less busy of the two Disneyland theme parks up until Avengers Campus opens June 4, especially on weekdays — if you want to make the very most of your day, DCA is an awesome pick for the month of May! Here are the top 10 things we’re looking forward to when Disney California Adventure reopens April 30!

10 Things We’re Looking Forward to When Disney California Adventure Park Reopens

10 Things We’re Looking Forward to During the Disney California Reopening - GuardiansLosing Our Stomachs in Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT!

There’s nothing like the anticipation of finding out what song Rocket Raccoon is going to play as the Gantry Lift is about to take off. (I’m always rooting for the Jackson 5.) And then you're whisked way up high only to drop back down and help Rocket free his friends. It's all we can do not to laugh on this fun ride. I was a huge fan of Tower of Terror, but Guardians is so fun it won me over. I love that there are different versions and a Halloween layover, Monsters After Dark.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Go!

Hearing Dash count us down and take us on a wild chase to catch Jack-Jack with the whole Parr family on the Incredicoaster is the highlight of any Disney California Adventure visit. Then, getting a Jack-Jack Cookie Num Num with milk when it’s all through settles the stomach from the hills and loop … which brings us to our favorite snacks.

Our Favorite Snacks

10 Things We’re Looking Forward to During the Disney California Reopening - Pixar Pier ParfaitDisney California Adventure has incredibly themed snacks and meals. Many of our favorite Disneyland foods are found in this park. (Shh ... don't tell Disneyland.) You have your churros and turkey legs and Mickey pretzels and popcorn, of course. But then there are Ghirardelli ice cream sundaes, Cozy Cone Soft serve with road gravel topping and Adorable Snowman’s Frosted Treats – It’s Lemon! Dole whip. The colorful Pixar Pier Parfait is calling my name.

Then there are the mini-meals on the go, such as the Chili Cone Queso at the Cozy Cone Motel, elote, or a refreshing Memory Refresher, themed caramel apple or some churro toffee from Bing Bong's Sweet Stuff. It's so hard to decide what to eat first! If you are still deciding, jump to our post on the best Disneyland snacks and where to find them. Our bellies are about to be so hoppy!

Soarin’ Around the World

You can soar over the Matterhorn mountain, past pyramids in Egypt and take in the tropical smells of Figi (hello there, rays in the water below). But it just might be hearing Flight Attendant Patrick getting us prepared for flight that I miss the most. “Nice work, pal!”

Exploring the New Avengers Campus

10 Things We’re Looking Forward to During the Disney California Reopening - WEB-SLINGERS A Spider-Man Adventure

This new Super Hero-themed land will not open when the parks reopen, but we won't have to wait long — Avengers Campus opens June 4! We caught sight of the Quinjet perched on a rooftop. (OMG!!) That and new fencing has us so anxious to get inside the new land. Tad and the rest of us are toadally ready to meet Super Heroes and help Spider-Man control the Spider-Bots on a new ride — WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure.

The new land means there is new food to try! (It's all about the food with us.) We can taste over-sized and under-sized foods at Pym Test Kitchen and get round churros or shawarma at the vendors in the land. Plus it will be super fun to just explore the space. The pandemic has given us time to get all caught up on Marvel movies on Disney+ so we are ready to join the Avengers on this new adventure!

Seeing Characters

10 Things We’re Looking Forward to During the Disney California Reopening - Goofy and Max Fish from a Balcony in Pacific WharfDisney characters bring the Disney magic into the park. And why not? They are the stars of the show. It’s their stories that inspire rides and entertainment and pull our heartstrings. We know that we will have to enjoy them from afar from balconies, ledges and behind barriers to keep them — and us — safe for now. Each of the Disney World theme parks offered character cavalcades or unique character viewing experiences upon reopening. These unplanned experiences bring the characters down the street (or even by waterway) so guests could enjoy spontaneous fun with them. One thing we can count on with Disney is to expect the unexpected, so we will keep our eyes open for spontaneous character surprises to delight our hearts. We will be content with blowing kisses and waving for now.

We look forward to seeing Pixar characters, Mickey and pals, Avengers, Anna & Elsa and talking cars in Cars land. Seeing characters in new ways at A Touch of Disney has us looking forward to new adventures with characters in new locations!

Getting Our Kicks on Route 66

10 Things We’re Looking Forward to During the Disney California Reopening - Mater In Cars Land at Night

Visiting Radiator Springs feels like taking a walk down Route 66. This immersive land puts you on the street and behind the wheel of several vehicles. Whether we're being whipped around in a tractor jamboree, dancing with other cars — Hey Mambo — or racing through the desert, our hearts pump like DJ’s music when we are in this land. We always make a pit stop to fuel up at the Cozy Cone Motel for some yummy snacks. We especially love seeing this land lit up at night.

Holidays and Festivals

Halloween may be a bit far off, but we love Halloween Time in Disney California Adventure. Cars Land is beautifully lit up with new colors, lights and decor. There are frogciting ride overlays. And then there is the Oogie Boogie Bash Disneyland Halloween Party! Need we say more? Holiday time at Disneyland hops in a few days later to transform the park into the Festival of Holidays (followed by Lunar New Year and then Food & Wine Festival). 10 Things We’re Looking Forward to During the California Adventure Reopening - The Encore Drink at Lamplight LoungeThese holidays and events bring a lot of versatility to the park. They also keep it fresh and exciting for both first-time and return visitors. We love getting tasty bites and sips from the festival booths at the events. Luckily we got a few tastes of them at A Touch of Disney.

Sipping Adult Beverages and Enjoying Good Eats With a Good View

Disney California Adventure has wine tasting and themed cocktails that are oh so fun. We miss kicking back at Lamplight Lounge with some lobster nachos and a Mickey Fun Wheel or a bubbly The Sequel. We love the view of the water and Pixar Pier any time of day.

Looking Forward to When Disney California Adventure Reopens - Pear Martini Carthay CircleCarthay Circle Lounge Alfresco Dining offers tasty bites with outdoor dining in Hollywood Land. I think a double pear martini with a view of the fake Hollywood sky may be calling my name when we return.

Put both of these table-service restaurants on your must-have reservations list. But, reservations will be hard to come by for these highly in-demand restaurants. There's another way to get in. Check the Disneyland app (or QR Codes in front of the restaurant) for Walk-Up Availability on the day of your visit. Check as soon as you arrive on property.

Being Part of Ariel’s World

One of our favorite slow rides when we need a rest and some AC is The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Underseas Adventure. It’s a favorite of Lily’s. She dances to the music in her clamshell vehicle. We've seen scaffolding around the exterior lately. We look forward to seeing the refurbished exterior when Disney California Adventure reopens.

What? No Shows?

10 Things We’re Looking Forward to During the Disney California Reopening - World of Color

You may have noticed that something is missing from the things we’re looking forward to during the Disney California Adventure reopening, and that's World of Color.

World of Color (and other shows, parades or nighttime spectaculars at Disneyland Park, such as fireworks and Fantasmic!) will not return right away until it is safer for audiences to gather. But that does not mean we aren’t looking forward to the time when the magical show of fountains, music lights, and projections returns to top off our perfect day in the park. We just might have to book a World of Color Dessert Party to celebrate when it returns. Frozen - Live at the Hyperion has also been canceled and we do not know when this indoor show may return.
