Calling all aquatic frogs! Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana opened in October 2023 at Walt Disney World. Located in World Nature at EPCOT, the walkthrough attraction teaches guests about the water cycle in fun and whimsical ways. Interact with water like never before, and keep an eye out for hidden nods to the "Moana" film — all at your own pace. Here's everything to know about this unique attraction!
What Is Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana?
Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana is a unique, walkthrough attraction coming to EPCOT. Guests can travel through a self-guided outdoor trail and experience water coming to life. Learn more about the water cycle and conservation, all while playing with the whimsical waves!
There are lots of interactive elements to explore, such as waving your arm to help water play music or stepping through an on-and-off waterfall. In one area, you'll even need to work together to create one large wave! You can choose either wet or dry paths depending on your preference and even enjoy shaded areas to relax in while the tadpoles splash around.
As the first attraction in any Disney Park to feature the animated film, "Moana," guests can discover carvings and sculptures of characters including Moana herself, Te Fiti, Pua and Hei Hei. Near the attraction, guests may also meet Moana for hugs, autographs and photos.
Where Is Journey of Water in EPCOT?
You can find Journey of Water at EPCOT in World Nature. Once you enter the park, veer right off Spaceship Earth. The attraction entrance is located just before the Coral Reef Restaurant.
To experience Moana Journey of Water, you'll need valid park admission to Walt Disney World. Be sure to save some green by purchasing Disney World discount tickets through Undercover Tourist!
When Does Journey of Water Open?
Get excited, as Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana is officially open as of Oct. 16, 2023! (Froggy fact: the opening date coincided with the exact date of the Walt Disney Company's 100th anniversary!) Cast members, annual pass holders and Disney Vacation Club members were provided early preview opportunities, plus the attraction soft opened on select days in early October.
The attraction opened as part of the large, multi-year transformation of EPCOT.
How to Access Moana Journey of Water
Now that Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana is open to the public, guests have a chance to experience this walkthrough attraction via a standby queue. Initially, a virtual queue was used to maintain crowd levels but has not been in use since then. There is no Lightning Lane access. The attraction is available during regular park hours, as well as Early Theme Park Entry and Extended Evening Hours.
With no height requirement, the whole family can splash around!
Tips for Moana Journey of Water
Here are our cool tips for experiencing this new attraction:
- There are designated wet and dry path options in case you don't want to get wet. Wheelchairs and service animals must remain on the dry path only.
- Note that some aspects of the attractions may close due to weather.
- Similar to Pandora – The World of Avatar and Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, we highly recommend visiting again at night for a toadally different experience!
- Keep an eye out for familiar shapes in the rocks. (Psst ... follow the chicken footprints to spot Hei Hei.)
- You can spend as much time as you want on the self-guided trail. Most people will spend an average of 10 to 15 minutes depending on how long you want to spend in each area. It's a perfect way to beat the heat and cool off, especially in summer!
- After visiting Journey of Water, be sure to meet Moana in her new location by the attraction and tell her all about your adventures!
