Since the first time we saw "Big Hero 6," we’ve wanted to bury ourselves in a squishy Baymax hug and visit the fictional city of San Fransokyo. That dream became a reality, as of Aug. 31, 2023, as the Pacific Wharf area of Disney California Adventure has transformed into San Fransokyo Square. It’s a visual East meets West mash-up of both cities, and it provides dining and shopping locations inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Academy Award-winning film. Plus, Baymax and pals are there for hugs and photos! Here’s everything you need to know about the new San Fransokyo Square at Disney California Adventure.

Overview of San Fransokyo Square at Disney California Adventure
San Fransokyo Square Public Works Department has transformed Pacific Wharf into San Fransokyo Square, a shopping and dining area of Disney California Adventure. The city stems from the alternate version of San Francisco in "Big Hero 6!", containing a fusion of culture from San Francisco and Tokyo.
The area even has a very special and frogciting backstory! As the technology industry began to emerge and the local fishing trade fell on hard times, entrepreneurs came together to reinvent seaside canneries into a vibrant, multicultural district of neighborhood restaurants and small businesses. Here, visitors can eat and shop to their heart's content. You can even smell the aroma of Asian American foods simmering!
Where Is San Fransokyo?
You can find San Fransokyo Square between Cars Land and Pixar Pier in Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort. An iconic bridge, which mashes San Francisco’s Golden Gate bridge style with Asian architecture, welcomes you in from the obelisk at Paradise Gardens Park near the base of the pier. As you enter the square, you’ll see the floating wind turbine above an old fishing net tannery, powering the district from high in the sky.
When Did It Open?
San Fransokyo Square officially opened with Aunt Cass Cafe, merch and characters on Aug. 31, 2023. New food items and seasonal items arrive all the time.
Enjoy themed touches, even outside the restrooms! There are so many new details and signs in the area. There is a water bottle refill station located just outside the restrooms.
Now, you'll see locations across the area — from the Cappuccino Cart outside the San Fransokyo Gate Bridge to The Bakery Tour — decked out in street art and colorful banners to celebrate the Big Hero 6 team's victory over Yokai.
Characters in San Fransokyo
At the south end of San Fransokyo Square, you can meet Hiro, Baymax and friends from "Big Hero 6!" outside of the Hamada Bot Shop. That's where the Big Hero 6 team builds their hi-tech gear. Keep an eye out for some of their upcoming inventions. Be aware that lines can get long, especially as they are new. You might get Baymax, Hiro or both at the same time if you are really lucky.
Meeting Baymax is so fun. He may offer health assessments and advice. You can give him hugs and fist bumps (ba-la-la-la-la). Toadally cute! See if you can catch him blink. (Wanna know where else you can meet characters at Disneyland? Hop here!)
During the separately ticketed Oogie Boogie Bash Halloween party, you can spot the villain Yokai in San Fransokyo Square.
Speaking of Halloween Time, there are some fun Halloween Time food and treats available every day of the season!
Dining in San Fransokyo
Disney kicked it out of the park with all the new food items. We love everything we tried and would get them all again.
For the most part, we can still order our yummy favorites — including soups in sourdough bread bowls, ice cream sundaes, delicious Mexican fare, Asian dishes and more — in addition to new San Fransokyo foods and flavors themed after the "Big Hero 6!" characters. One new location, next to Cocina Cucamonga, is the Port of San Fransokyo Cervecería. It’s inspired by its three cultural influences with signage in English, Japanese and Spanish. Enjoy a cold one outside in a fun and inviting beer garden.
San Fransokyo Square is home to three quick-service restaurants and a few beverage, dessert and snack locations. They have been rolling out new menu items over the summer. Some of our favorite foods at Disney California Adventure, such as the fresh sourdough bread (especially as a bowl for soup) and quesabirria tacos, are in this area. Keep an eye out for the Baymax or seasonal Megabot sippers and a Baymax macaron!
Lucky Fortune Cookery

We've tried most of the foods at Lucky Fortune and we are pretty happy with them, especially the Yaki Udon dishes and the Karaage-inspired Crispy Chicken Sandwich. The many fresh vegetables in the Yaki Udon dishes made this mama's heart so hoppy. We will definitely be getting them again.
The Birria Ramen is very flavorful and also a bit spicy. The soup is piping hot, so it would be perfect on a colder day versus the heat of summer when we tried it. But we highly recommend this dish too! The Strawberry Lychee Cocktail is sweet and refreshing.

You can purchase Baymax and seasonal sourdough characters/shapes, as well as the Baymax sipper. Magic Key holders can get a discount on the bread (Baymax loaf) but not the sipper.
Our tip is to look at the prices and sizes of the loafs. Some of the shapes are bigger than Baymax, but for less money! We're looking at you, sourdough, Mickey.
Shopping in San Fransokyo
Along with the reimagining of the space, new shopping opportunities are here!
Near the Baymax and Hiro meet and greet area you can find some new shopping. The San Fransokyo Maker’s Market is located near the Hamada Bot Shop. You'll find shelves sitting on robot storage cases and some decommissioned battle bots on display. Look at the rafters to spot Hiro’s Megabot (the local battle bot champion, BTW). You can purchase shirts, hats, dog clothes, plushes, keychains, magnets, decor and more specialty merchandise here!
Guests can also purchase four collectible golden medallions from a special vending machine in San Fransokyo Square. These coins feature designs of Baymax and other iconic images from San Fransokyo.

One of the popular annual events at Disney California Adventure is the Lunar New Year celebration. It takes place annually from late January to mid-February. San Fransokyo Square is certainly on theme with seasonal offerings. But any festival or holiday season can bring seasonal offerings and beverages. The bread pudding at Aunt Cass changes seasonally.
