There are so many ways to shave dollars off your SeaWorld San Diego visit. Here's how to save money at SeaWorld San Diego, from choosing a less-expensive time to visit to finding sales and discount tickets — plus our tips and tricks to save money inside the park (including dining deals and how to save on snacks). Then, the money that you save can go toward special souvenirs or extra treats, if you wish!

Our Top 14 Tips to Save Money at SeaWorld San Diego

1. Find the Cheapest Days to Visit SeaWorld San Diego

SeaWorld San Diego tickets cost less Monday through Thursday compared to Friday through Sunday. If your schedule allows it, you can save money by visiting during the week. You're likely to encounter lower crowds during the week, so it's a win-win, saving money and time.

Visiting on a slower day not only saves money on tickets but also skips add-ons in the park. You don't need to purchase Quick-Queue or pay extra to reserve seating at shows when the park is less crowded. On more crowded days, you might feel pressure to open your wallet for some time-saving upgrades.

2. Purchase During a SeaWorld Ticket Sale

Undercover Tourist always has great deals on SeaWorld San Diego every day of the year. But we also have froggeriffic sales and promotional deals from time to time. Whether it's a "Buy a Day and Get a Kids FREE" ticket or an All-Day Dine ticket or even a 2-day promo, hop to our SeaWorld San Diego ticketing page to see the current deals. We also have screamin' deals on Howl-O-Scream tickets in the fall! Veterans can usually receive free admission around Veterans Day in November.

3. Take Kids for Free in October

Many San Diego attractions get in on the kids' free deals in the month of October. It's a great time to take your kids to SeaWorld or the San Diego Zoo. Our tadpoles love dressing in costume for the Halloween Spooktacular and trick-or-treating in the park.

4. Purchase Discount SeaWorld Tickets and Passes

It's one way to save on dining, snacks or souvenirs at the park!

5. Eat a Solid Breakfast Before You Arrive

Arrive with a full belly. That should stop the tadpoles from needing food for at least a little while and help you get a head start on accomplishing a lot without having to stop for food. If arriving later, grab a bite before you enter the park or at least enjoy some snacks on the ride over, so you don't start your visit hungry.

6. Consider an All Day Dining Plan

Theme park food is not always budget-friendly. Food, snacks and drinks are all pricey at SeaWorld. But there are several ways to save on food. The All-Day Dining Deal can help you stay on a food budget and keep your belly full. The plan is good for a meal with a beverage every 90 minutes at the following participating restaurants:

  • Shipwreck Reef Café
  • Explorer’s Café
  • Calypso Bay Smokehouse
  • Hibisco Modern Mexican
  • Manta Pizza
  • The Chicken Snack Shack

Adults can redeem one entrée platter with one side OR dessert & a regular, nonalcoholic beverage. Children (ages 3-9) can redeem one kids meal. The Meal Deals are valid for one day only. You must wear and show wristbands at each redemption.

You can save money on the All-Day Dining Deal when you purchase through Undercover Tourist! This deal makes the most financial sense if you get your first meal early and set alarms so you can maximize your food pick-up throughout the day. If food lines are long, that will slow down your pace in the park. One downside to the Dining Deal is that you must order in person and cannot take advantage of mobile ordering to skip the lines.

Keep in mind that SeaWorld San Diego is cash-free. So a dining plan is a great way to eat all day without pulling out debit or credit cards.

7. Buy Dining Cards During SeaWorld San Diego Events

During select times of year, you can taste many items from food booths on the weekends for some SeaWorld San Diego events. You can buy tastes and sips individually, but if you want to try multiple items, you can save money (and even get free items) by purchasing a Food & Beverage Sampler Card. These items are not on the All-Day  Dining Deal. Unlike the Dining Deal, you can share them.

8. Can You Bring Snacks to SeaWorld San Diego? (It Depends!)

The official rule is that you must leave hard and soft coolers, glass containers (glass baby food jars are OK), and food such as sandwiches, meals, snacks and flavored drinks outside the park. You can bring water bottles in with you. You'll find a picnic area outside the park near the entrance/exit plaza. If you leave the park to enjoy your food, get your hand stamped for re-admittance. Guests can bring food for medical diets and baby food/formula.

In our experience, we have always been able to bring snacks for the tadpoles. Our bags get inspected at a bag check, and nobody ever asks us not to bring in our snacks. If you do get asked not to bring them, politely comply with the rules. Leave plastic straws at home.

9. Find the Most Affordable Park Foods

There are a few markets in the park that have budget-friendly foods as well as healthier choices than the snack stands. Our favorite shop is Discoveries Fresh Market. It's located between the Shark Encounter and Sea Lion stadium. You'll see a refrigerator with cheese sticks, Uncrustables, pickles and grab 'n' go items. These make for a much more affordable alternative, and our tadpoles enjoy the familiar choices. Plus, we never encounter lines here, so we can acquire food items quickly.

There are less expensive ways to dine on snacks. At the snack markets that sell popcorn and cotton candy, you can bring your bucket back that day for a significant discount on popcorn refills. Did you know that you can eat your cotton candy and use that bucket to save on popcorn? Just ask for a refill!

You can get pouches of Dippin' Dots in an ice cream cooler at the snack market near the dolphin stadium. Those cost a lot less than scoops of Dippin' Dots from the stands. And we find them easier for tadpoles to manage!

10. Carry Reusable Water Bottles and Drink Free Water

You can bring your reusable water bottles into the park. Refill them at fill stations and soda machines. You can save a lot of money compared to buying bottled water or other drinks in the park. If you have access to a freezer, bring frozen water bottles. Drink the water as the ice melts and refill the bottle as you go to always have cold water.

If sodas and ICEEs are a must for frequent visitors, at the beginning of the calendar year, you can purchase an All-Season Souvenir Bottle. It comes with unlimited fountain beverages and ICEE refills at SeaWorld & Sesame Place San Diego beginning Jan. 1. It expires in early January the following year.

11. Bring Your Own Sunscreen, Hats and Umbrellas

You'll be spending a lot of time in the sun, especially when waiting for and watching shows. Protect your skin and eyes by bringing the proper items with you. We bring an umbrella to shade us while we wait for the shows. (But we always put it down when showtime starts!)

12. Bring Your Own Stroller

You can rent a stroller at SeaWorld for $40-50. The price varies by date. Save a lot of green by bringing your own stroller. Your own stroller will also be a lot more comfortable than the hard plastic rental strollers. Plus, it can hold your backpacks, spare clothes and more. Just remove any valuables and non-replaceable items when you park it for shows and rides.

13. Can You Bring a Backpack to SeaWorld San Diego? (Yes!)

You can bring a backpack to SeaWorld San Diego. You will go through a metal detector and bag screening before you enter. We always bring a backpack filled with water, snacks, hats, sunscreen, sunglasses, swimwear and a dry change of clothes for the tadpoles. In cooler months, we bring sweatshirts.

14. Bring Swimwear for the Tadpoles

How to Save Money at SeaWorld San Diego - Kids in water play area

On warm days, your tadpoles are going to want to play in the splash pad. Don't get caught having to buy swimwear or dry clothes in the park. Bring swim clothes and change in the nearby changing rooms. While SeaWorld sells all the items you need in an emergency, you'll save money at SeaWorld San Diego by coming prepared. You might pack some spare dry clothes for kids who want to change after sitting in soak zones or playing on the splash pad.

Our favorite way to save money at SeaWorld San Diego is to buy discount SeaWorld tickets through Undercover Tourist. We sell authorized theme park tickets, dining deals, passes, special promo tickets and so much more!
