Inside This Post

Get ready to let down your hair and wish on a lantern. We're sailing straight into the kingdom of Corona to experience “Tangled: The Musical” while aboard the Disney Magic! As froggies who’ve seen every Broadway-style show onboard Disney Cruise Line from “Frozen, A Musical Spectacular” on the Disney Wonder to “Beauty and the Beast” on the Disney Dream, we weren’t sure what to expect from this classic story turned stage show. But one thing’s for sure, this tale of lanterns, longing and lovable ruffians absolutely glows!

In this post, we’re diving into everything from the show's location and schedule to what to expect. Plus, we’ll share our favorite moments and why this show has us singing long after the curtain falls.

“Tangled: The Musical” Overview

If you’ve ever dreamed of chasing floating lanterns and singing your heart out, this show is your golden opportunity! “Tangled: The Musical” is a Broadway-style stage adaptation of the 2010 animated hit, and it’s exclusive to the Disney Magic.

This production was produced by Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Entertainment with legendary composer Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater, who created three original songs just for this show. The result is a retelling that feels familiar, yet fresh and tailored for the stage while keeping the heart of the original.

Where to See “Tangled: The Musical”?

If this show is on your Disney Magic bucket list (and trust us, it should be!), you’ll want to do a little advance planning to make the most of your experience. You can catch this glowing performance aboard the Disney Magic in the Walt Disney Theatre, located on Deck 4, Forward.

Tangled the Musical - Walt Disney Theatre

The Walt Disney Theatre itself is beautiful. With gold-trimmed arches, red curtains and cushioned seating for nearly 1,000 guests, the venue sets the mood from the moment you walk in. The space is accessible and includes booster seats and companion seating, so frogs of all ages can enjoy the show comfortably.

During themed sailings like Halloween on the High Seas, you’ll still find "Tangled the Musical" running as scheduled. And don't froget you can always grab popcorn, candy or soda from Preludes right outside the doors.

“Tangled: The Musical” is typically shown twice per cruise itinerary. There are usually two performances the evening it’s scheduled: one for each Rotational Dining seating. If you have the early dining time, you'll eat dinner first and then head to the show after. For late dinner, you'll watch the show before dinner.

You’ll want to check the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app for showtimes and arrive early! Seats in the Walt Disney Theatre are first come, first served and the best spots (center or front balcony) fill up fast. We recommend arriving 30–45 minutes before showtime. That’ll give you plenty of time to snag seats, take a potty break and grab snacks from Preludes. This is one show where you’ll want to be front and center when the lights go down.

Snag a booster seat for your littlest tadpoles! They’re available at the theater entrance and make it easier for smaller guests to see over the heads of tall frogs in front.

Heads up, no photography or filming is allowed during the show. So hop off socials for a bit, sit back and soak in the lantern-lit magic.

“Tangled: The Musical” — What to Expect

The show begins with a new song, “Flower of Gold,” sung by Flynn Rider, as he narrates the legend of the magical healing flower and Rapunzel’s origin. This sets the stage theatrically and emotionally. It’s giving epic fairytale and it immediately draws the audience in.

Visually, the storybook-style set unfolds like a pop-up book, with vivid scenes including Rapunzel’s tower, the forest and the Snuggly Duckling, all designed to bring Corona to life on stage. Rapunzel's first appearance is sweet and understated, and from there, the magic only builds.

Of course, you’ll hear fan favorites from the film, such as “When Will My Life Begin?,” “Mother Knows Best” and “I See the Light.”

Each is performed with Broadway-caliber vocals and beautifully choreographed staging. Rapunzel’s optimism shines in her tower number, while Mother Gothel’s sass and menace drip through her solo. And yes, “I See the Light” is as dreamy as ever, complete with floating lantern effects that got a standing ovation on our sailing.

The three new songs add depth to the production: “Flower of Gold” is a prologue introducing Rapunzel’s origin. “Wanted Man” is a solo for Flynn Rider that dives into his self-image and reputation. And “When She Returns" is a heartfelt finale sung by the ensemble as Rapunzel is reunited with her family.

All three songs fold seamlessly into the score, making it feel like these songs had always been part of the story.

Showstopping Stagecraft

Now, let’s talk about Maximus. This full-size puppet horse was designed by Michael Curry (yes, the same artist behind Broadway’s “The Lion King”). Operated by two performers, Maximus is expressive, energetic and absolutely hilarious. Every time he trotted on stage, the crowd giggled with delight.

The set and costumes are lush, storybook-inspired and filled with fine details. Rapunzel’s 15-foot-tall tower is a stunning centerpiece, adorned with glowing mural flowers and inspired by the film’s hand-painted storybook style. Lighting and projections make the forest feel alive and the transition to the lantern scene is magical.

The Snuggly Duckling scene is another favorite, with comical ensemble performances and over-the-top mayhem that had us croaking with laughter. It’s everything we love about the movie … but with more dancing.

“Tangled: The Musical” — Final Thoughts

Tangled the Musical - Disney Magic Deck Party

You’ll only find this show on the Disney Magic, but it easily earns a spot among Disney’s best at-sea entertainment.

With memorable new music, dazzling effects, Maximus stealing the show (literally) and a lantern finale that made us sniffle, “Tangled: The Musical” is a must-see. Whether your little tadpoles are die-hard princess fans or you’re just a frog who loves a good story, this one will light up your evening. Literally! We left the theater humming, glowing and fully enchanted. So if you're sailing on the Disney Magic, don’t miss this one!
