What's the best way to experience the slides and attractions? We're here to help! This guide walks you through your Typhoon Lagoon day from start to finish, with planning tips, insider advice and helpful information to make your visit as fun and stress-free as possible.

  • What's the best way to spend a day at Typhoon Lagoon? You can't go wrong! Planning for Your Typhoon Lagoon Day

A day at Typhoon Lagoon is all about slowing down, soaking up the sun and enjoying some of Disney's most fun-filled water attractions. You won't need a minute-by-minute itinerary, but a little planning can help you fit in everything on your must-do list. Here's how to make the most of your day, from park opening until it's time to head back to your resort.

Typhoon Lagoon is home to North America's largest wave pool, the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool, where six-foot waves barrel in throughout the day. Thrill seekers can race down Crush 'n' Gusher, a one-of-a-kind water coaster, or float around the park in the Castaway Creek lazy river. Families won't want to miss Miss Adventure Falls, a family raft ride, while little tadpoles can splash and play at Ketchakiddee Creek. Whether you're looking for adventure or relaxation, there's something for every member of your crew.

Dress for a Comfortable Day

When it comes to Typhoon Lagoon, you'll want to wear casual and comfortable clothing. Most arrive wearing their swimsuit under a cover-up, T-shirt or other lightweight clothing. Flip-flops are our go-tos, but water shoes are another great option, especially during the summer. The pavement can get hot after a few hours in the Florida sun, so you'll be glad to have something on your feet.

Pack the Essentials

You'll spend most of your day splashing, floating and sliding, but packing a few essentials can make your visit stress-free.

Our Typhoon Lagoon day bag includes:

  • Swimsuit
  • Cover-up or T-shirt and shorts
  • Flip-flops or water shoes
  • Sunglasses
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen (Be sure to reapply throughout the day!)
  • Waterproof phone pouch
  • Portable phone charger (A Fuel Rod kiosk is located in the Beach Haus merchandise shop)
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Hair ties for long hair
  • A dry change of clothes
  • Swim diapers (if applicable)

A waterproof phone pouch is one of our must-have park-day essentials. It keeps your phone protected while making it easy to take photos, stay in touch with your group and use mobile payment without making extra trips back to your chair or locker.

Bringing Your Own Food and Drinks

You're welcome to bring your own snacks and nonalcoholic beverages into Typhoon Lagoon — a frogtastic way to save money or accommodate dietary needs. Just remember that alcohol, glass containers and large hard-sided coolers are not permitted. If you'd rather pack light, you'll find plenty of quick-service dining options throughout the park, which we'll cover later in this guide.

Complimentary Towels

Complimentary towels are available for all guests at Typhoon Lagoon. After entering the park, head to Singapore Sal's, where you can pick up towels for your group. If your towel gets soaked throughout the day, you can exchange it for a dry one.

The towels are about the size of a standard bath towel. If you prefer an oversized beach towel, you may want to bring your own instead. Just be sure to return your Disney towels before leaving the park.

Arriving at Typhoon Lagoon

Now that you've packed your beach bag, it's time to make your way to Typhoon Lagoon.

Admission

There are several ways to visit Typhoon Lagoon, and the best option depends on your Walt Disney World vacation plans. One of the biggest perks for Disney Resort hotel guests is complimentary water park admission on their check-in day.

Introduced in 2025 and extended through summer 2026 and summer 2027, this benefit allows guests staying at a Disney Resort hotel to visit either Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach on the day they arrive. During the summer months, when both water parks are open, you'll get to choose which park you'd like to visit. Just keep in mind that this benefit is only valid on your arrival day and can't be transferred to another date. (Typhoon Lagoon closes Sept. 9, 2026, for a seasonal refurbishment.)

If you're not staying at a Disney Resort hotel, or if you'd like to visit a water park more than once during your vacation, you have a few ticket options.

A 1-Day Water Park Ticket is the best choice if you're only planning one visit to Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach.

If you're also visiting the Disney theme parks, consider adding the Water Park and Sports Option or the Park Hopper Plus Option to your theme park tickets. Both include "plus visits," which can be used at Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach and other select Walt Disney World experiences. We especially love the flexibility of the Park Hopper Plus Option, since it lets you enjoy all four Disney theme parks and both water parks during the same vacation.

Experience all four Walt Disney World Theme Parks this summer with the 4-Day, 4-Park Magic Ticket! Valid for arrivals from May 26 to Sept. 26, 2026.

No matter which ticket you choose, there are a few things every first-time visitor should know.

  • You don't need a theme park reservation to visit Typhoon Lagoon.
  • Parking is free.
  • Your water park admission should automatically appear in your My Disney Experience account once your tickets (and Disney Resort hotel reservation, if applicable) are linked.

Transportation

If you're staying at a Disney Resort hotel, complimentary bus transportation is available from about 30 minutes before the park opens until about an hour after it closes. Depending on where you're staying, you may have direct bus service or need to make one transfer.

Disney World Resort bus transportation at Typhoon Lagoon.

Disney Resort hotel guests traveling to Typhoon Lagoon will take a bus to Disney Springs and then transfer to a Typhoon Lagoon bus. We like to mention this because it can add a little extra travel time, especially if you have dining reservations or evening plans after your water park day. In general, plan for about an hour of travel between your resort and Typhoon Lagoon, including bus wait times and transfers.

During Cool Kids' Summer (May 26 through Sept. 8, 2026), transportation is a bit more convenient for some guests. Those staying at Disney's Port Orleans Resort – Riverside and Disney's Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter receive direct bus service to Typhoon Lagoon. Guests staying at other Disney Resort hotels will continue to travel via Disney Springs before transferring to a Typhoon Lagoon bus.

If you're driving your own vehicle or a rental car, getting to Typhoon Lagoon is simple. Parking is free, and the drive is well marked from anywhere on Walt Disney World property.

Pick Your Home Base

Before heading to your first attraction, take a few minutes to choose your home base for the day. Lounge chairs are available throughout Typhoon Lagoon on a first-come, first-served basis, so arriving early gives you the best selection.

Miss Adventure Falls at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon

If you plan to spend most of your day riding the waves, look for chairs near the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool. Families with younger tadpoles may prefer a spot closer to Ketchakiddee Creek, while guests who want easy access to the slides may want to settle near Crush 'n' Gusher or Miss Adventure Falls.

If you'd like a reserved space to relax, consider renting a Beachcomber Shack. These private cabanas include cushioned seating, towels, a locker, ice water, select soft drinks and an attendant who can help with food and beverage orders.

Store Your Valuables

Many guests leave towels, sandals and other belongings at their chairs while they're enjoying the attractions. For valuables such as your phone, wallet, keys and camera, we recommend renting a locker. This way you'll keep everything secure while you spend the day in the water. The standard-size locker is $10 per day, and the large locker is $15 per day.

Typhoon Lagoon Park Plan

Unlike the Disney theme parks, you don't need a minute-by-minute park plan to have a great day at Typhoon Lagoon. Still, a little strategy can help you spend more time in the water and less time waiting in line.

Arrive Early

Typhoon Lagoon typically opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 8 p.m. (though hours vary throughout the year), and we recommend arriving about 30 minutes before the park opens. You'll have plenty of time to park, grab a locker, pick out a great spot and be one of the first guests on Crush 'n' Gusher. Win!

Castaway Creek at Typhoon Lagoon.

If you're taking advantage of the complimentary water park admission on your Disney Resort hotel check-in day, don't worry if you arrive later in the day. Between checking in, dropping off your luggage (Bell Services can hold your luggage if your room isn't ready) and making your way to Typhoon Lagoon, it's common to get there in the afternoon.

Even if it's a shorter visit, spend some time floating around Castaway Creek, cool off in the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool or squeeze in a ride on Miss Adventure Falls before heading back to your resort. It's still a pretty great way to kick off your Walt Disney World vacation!

Head Straight to the Most Popular Attractions

If your crew is eager to hit the slides, skip the shopping and photos for now and head straight to Typhoon Lagoon's headliner attractions. These are the first rides to build a wait, so tackling them early can save you time later in the day.

Our recommended order is:

  1. Crush 'n' Gusher
  2. Miss Adventure Falls
  3. Humunga Kowabunga
  4. Storm Slides
  5. Gangplank Falls
  6. Keelhaul Falls
  7. Mayday Falls

Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool

No visit to Typhoon Lagoon is complete without spending time in the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool. It's the park's signature attraction and North America's largest wave pool. Every few minutes, a six-foot wave crashes across the lagoon.

If you want to experience the biggest waves, head toward the deeper end of the pool and body surf the wave right in. If you prefer a more chill swim, stay closer to shore, where the waves are smaller and easier to enjoy (but still powerful, so hold your little one's hand!).

Lifeguards closely monitor the area, and complimentary life jackets are available for guests of all ages.

Know When Crowds Peak

Even on busy days, Typhoon Lagoon feels much more laid-back than the Disney theme parks. Still, you'll notice larger crowds during the summer, especially on weekends and around holidays such as Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day. If you have flexibility in your schedule, weekdays typically offer the lightest crowds.

Plan Around Lunch

Flatbread pizza and frozen drink from Leaning Palms.

The park's quick-service restaurants are busiest from about noon to 1:30 p.m. If you can, grab lunch before the rush or wait until a little later in the afternoon. You'll usually spend less time in line and find a table more easily.

Slow Down During the Afternoon

By midday, wait times for Typhoon Lagoon's most popular slides are typically at their highest. Instead of hopping from line to line, we like to slow the pace.

We usually like to head over to Castaway Creek, the park's lazy river. The gentle current circles the entire park, making it a relaxing way to cool off while taking in the scenery. You can also spend some time relaxing in a lounge chair or grabbing a frozen treat before heading back to the slides later in the afternoon.

If you're visiting with family or friends, this is where folks might want to split up. Thrill seekers can keep riding while everyone else enjoys a more relaxing afternoon.

Save Shopping for the End

The merch shop will still be there after you've hit the waves, so don't spend your first hour browsing souvenirs. Instead, save shopping for the end of your visit when you're ready to dry off and head back.

Visiting With Kids

Typhoon Lagoon has a kids' water play area for families with younger children. Ketchakiddee Creek is designed just for kiddos 48 inches and under, with pint-sized slides, fountains, splash zones and shallow play areas made for younger swimmers.

There are also the kid-sized Bay Slides, which are mini versions of the Storm Slides, located in a secluded corner of Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool.

For Cool Kids' Summer, keep a lookout for a Stitch meet-and-greet, games and dance parties going on until Sept. 8, 2026.

Where to Grab a Bite at Typhoon Lagoon

Leaning Palms is Typhoon Lagoon's main quick-service restaurant. Located near the center of the park. The menu includes burgers, chicken tenders, wraps, salads and other flatbreads. Mobile ordering is also available through the My Disney Experience app, so you can skip the line during busy times.

The second quick-service option is Typhoon Tilly's, located near Miss Adventure Falls. Here, you'll find seafood baskets, chicken tenders and other beach-day favorites. Mobile order is also available here.

If you're just looking for a snack, you'll find plenty of tasty treats throughout the park. Happy Landings Ice Cream serves DOLE Whip and the famous Sand Pail Sundae for a sweet way to cool off, while Lowtide Lou's offers snacks, draft beer and bottled beverages. Adults can also stop by Let's Go Slurpin' for a frozen cocktail to enjoy while relaxing in the sun.

If you packed your own lunch, you'll find shaded seating under the pavilion at Leaning Palms. And don't forget to stay hydrated. Complimentary cups of ice water are available at quick-service restaurants if you need a break from the Florida heat.

Before you head out, don't miss one of Typhoon Lagoon's fan-favorite treats: Joffrey's Mini Doughnuts. Served warm and made fresh throughout the day, they're the best way to end your water park adventure. Just don't wait until the last minute! We've noticed they often stop making fresh batches about 30 minutes before the park closes, so plan to grab yours a little earlier.
