A yet-to-be-named Coco-based attraction is coming to Disney California Adventure. This boat ride will be filled with the characters and music we know and love from the beloved "Coco" movie. You can join Miguel on a trip to the land of the dead.
Walt Disney Imagineering drew inspiration for the attraction from iconic classics, such as Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. Josh D'Amaro (CEO of Disney) said, “We’re bringing our skeletal cast of characters to life in a big way through the latest Audio-Animatronics technology. These figures will appear in ways you’ll have to see to believe.”
Where Will Coco Be Located?
The Coco ride is being constructed in a backstage area of Disney California Adventure. Once open, the entrance will be located between Pixar Pier and Paradise Gardens Park across from Silly Symphony Swings. The ride fits in there as a Pixar film and can tie into Latin American cultural celebrations that hoppen in that area. Paradise Gardens is home to other Mexican and Latin American celebrations, including Plaza de la Familia during Halloween Time.
Watch ¡Viva Navidad! and “Mirabel’s Gifts of the Season” shows during the Festival of Holidays.
We love seeing puppet Miguel in the parks and in "The Storytellers of Plaza de la Familia Celebrate The Musical World of Coco!" during the Plaza de la Familia celebration. This show presents musical moments from the film "Coco," such as "Remember Me," "The World Es Mi Familia," the Mexican folk song "La Llorona" and more. The storytellers teach viewers that the power of familial bonds lives forever in their "proud corazón!"
You can often find seasonal, authentic dishes at Paradise Garden Grill!
What Else Is Coming to Disney California Adventure?
The new Coco attraction is one of many additions coming to Disney California Adventure Park as part of DisneylandForward. DisneylandForward is a multi-billion dollar, multi-year expansion project for the Disneyland theme parks, bringing growth through new lands and experiences to the Disneyland Resort. These new lands and rides will double the size of Disney California Adventure!
A New Avatar Land and Ride
A new Avatar land and ride are in the works for Disney California Adventure. The second (“Avatar: The Way of Water”) and third (“Fire and Ash”) Avatar films, as well as future films, inspire this land.
It's being built in the current Hollywood Backlot area. Monsters Inc. will close in 2027 to make way for this new land and attraction.
The Avatar ride is a boat ride that includes all the action and excitement of Avatar. It's a dynamic, intense and emotional experience.
Doubling of Avengers Campus
Avengers Campus has two new attractions that are currently under construction that will double the size of that land:
- Avengers: Infinity Defense — This “E-Ticket” attraction puts you right in the middle of the Multiverse in a different timeline in which Thanos won the battle and is king. The attraction connects the storylines of multiple heroes and villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The ride vehicle utilizes a portal technology to allow guests to jump between different universes, including Asgard, Wakanda and New York City.
- Stark Flight Lab — Take a ride in a simulated flight in Tony Stark's robotics lab. Riders sit in a two-person pod, which deploys to a test station. A robot arm grabs the pods and starts whirling riders around in a simulated flight. The ride offers multiple “test flights,” which may encourage guests to return for a new or different experience.
All of these rides are currently under construction and likely to open before Avatar Land. For more information about what's coming to Disneyland Resort, hop over to our full post on what's coming.
