Is there anything more iconic than a Mickey ice cream bar at Disneyland on a hot day? But Mickey bars are just the beginning! There are so many refreshing Disneyland ice cream treats and other frozen delights to enjoy on a summer day. Oh, who are we trying to kid? We enjoy them any day of the year at Disneyland! From chocolate-dipped ice cream bars to sundaes and Dole Whip to frozen bananas, here is your guide to the top Disneyland ice cream treats you need in your life. Even if you are dairy-free, you can still partake in many frozen delights at Disneyland!
We also like to give a special shout-out to Holiday Time, which means the return of some of our favorite ice cream treats and limited-time flavors that we mention below. Are you gluten-free or dairy-free? You can also be worry-free. We've got you with some allergy and plant-based suggestions, as well!
Disneyland Ice Cream and Frozen Treats
Here's where to find the best ice cream and frozen treats at Disneyland Park. We even have some money-saving tips on how to save on scooped ice cream!
Ice Cream Carts
Throughout both parks, you can find frozen treats at the ice cream carts. You'll want to wait about 10 minutes before eating any of these hard-frozen treats or else your lips and tongue may stick. We know it's hard to wait, but be patient and give them a chance to thaw a little, especially before handing them to your tadpoles.
The ice cream carts sell six frozen treats (each is about $5, making them some of the cheapest treats in the park):
- Mickey's Ice Cream Bar (gluten-free)
- Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich (with cookies and cream ice cream)
- Nestle Toll House Sandwich
- Olaf Frozen Lemonade Strawberry bars (gluten-free and dairy-free)
- Outshine Fruit Bar (gluten-free and dairy-free)
- Frozen Bananas (kosher, gluten-free and dairy-free)
Gibson Girl
Right in the middle of Main Street U.S.A., Gibson Girl serves up scoops of ice cream, sundaes and floats. Mobile Order to skip the line. Come holiday time, you can get peppermint ice cream and special sundaes. Keep an eye out for seasonal flavors and special sundaes or cones. Periodically, whenever there is new entertainment or a festival, that means new treats to enjoy at Gibson Girl. This location offers a plant-based vanilla.
Want to save on ice cream? Share! Two scoops only cost about a dollar more than one scoop. If you order in person, you can add a third scoop for just $1 more! Gibson Girl also sells Mickey ice cream bars!
Do you like toppings, such as hot fudge and whipped cream? Save money by ordering a sundae. The year-round sundaes, such as the Chocolate Chip Cookie Sundae, come with two scoops of your choice of ice cream, a cherry, hot fudge or other sauce, whipped cream, and in this case, two cookies for $8.79. Some sundaes may have an edible bowl. The double scoop cup with sauce and whipped cream comes to $9.27 ($11.76 if you add cookies). So if you want toppings, the sundaes are toadally going to save you money! (In this case you can save $3.00 by ordering it as a sundae, and you end up with the same thing!)
And speaking of toppings ... there are a bunch of new ones! Add cinnamon-flavored cereal, Snickers bar pieces, flaked corn cereal and more!
Dole Whip
This refreshing dairy-free and gluten-free frozen treat is a huge fan favorite. You can get your classic pineapple Dole Whip and Dole Whip floats (in pineapple juice) by Mobile Order at Tiki Juice Bar. But just around the corner at Tropical Hideaway in Adventureland, you can get pineapple and other seasonal flavors swirled along with floats, specialty whips and more.
Golden Horseshoe
You can get house-made sundaes (such as the yummy house-made chocolate-chunk cookie sundae) and ice cream floats here. Be sure to check out any seasonal offerings. But if you want to just get a scoop of plain vanilla ice cream, you can hop in and order just that too. It's not on the menu but more selective eaters will thank you.
Frozen Drinks
There are a few frozen slushy drinks that are so refreshing on a hot day:
- Frozen lemonade
- Boysen Apple Freeze at Maurice's Treats in Fantasy Faire
- Jungle Julep at Bengal BBQ
- Frozen Slushes at Candy Palace
- Floats at Gibson Girl, Golden Horseshoe Tropical Hideaway and Tiki Juice Bar
- Plant-Based Blue or Green Milk at Milk Stand in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge
- Galactic Grill has slushes with seasonal flavors often with a glow cube
- Fanta slushes with optional Mickey and Minnie, Donald or Max and Goofy sippers (on a lanyard) at Good Boy! Grocers in Toontown.
- Frozen Slushes at Edelweiss Snacks
If you get two slush flavors at Edelweiss Snacks, the top flavor will be in the shape of Mickey Mouse!
Plant-Based Brownie à la Mode
Want a decadent treat without any dairy? Get the warm plant-based brownie à la mode at Carnation Café. It comes smothered in chocolate sauce and topped with a cherry.
Disney California Adventure Ice Cream and Frozen Treats
There is an even greater variety of ice cream and frozen drinks (including some adult versions) in this park, as well as special made-to-order items!
Clarabelle’s
You can Mobile Order your frozen treats or order in person here. Choose from hand-dipped frozen bananas with milk or dark chocolate and a choice of topping or hand-dipped ice cream bars. (They are gluten-free, depending on the topping you choose, but specify you are gluten-free when ordering.) You can get scooped ice cream (the same savings apply here as for Gibson Girl, with double scoops being a much better deal than single scoops). This location also has sundaes and ice cream floats, including hard floats for adults. Keep an eye out for seasonal specials, especially during holiday time and sometimes around Valentine's Day.
This location has plant-based vanilla and strawberry ice creams and a plant-based banana split (shown in photo)! Just keep scrolling down when mobile ordering to find them. Hop over to our guide to vegetarian food at Disneyland.
Cars Land has a few frozen treats. At Cozy Cone Motel 2 - Ice Cream Cones, you can get soft-serve and floats. Why is this soft-serve ice cream the best ever? We have no idea why (maybe because the cones are served from a giant traffic cone), but this ice cream is SO GOOD and creamy! Get chocolate, vanilla (or swirl) and Route Beer Floats (other soda flavors available) at this Route 66 rest stop. If you order the optional souvenir cup, you can get your Route Beer Float in the actual cup or a different cup. Getting separate cups keeps you from having to rinse it out. Our cup truly runneth over when we order the souvenir cup. (We rinse it out in a bathroom sink.)
Before the pandemic, there were tasty toppings, including road gravel and our favorite, fruit cereal, but we don't always see these options when mobile ordering. During the Festival of Holidays, you must make a pit stop for a green mint soft-serve with sprinkles and a candy star. It looks like a decorated tree and tastes delicious! We get it every year.
Flo's V8 Cafe has shakes topped with road gravel. If you can't decide between chocolate, vanilla or strawberry, get all three in the secret menu Neapolitan shake. At times, we have enjoyed seasonal shakes as well.
Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop
Step into this aromatic San Fransisco-based shop and take a whiff. Mmmm .... there are many goodies to be had from chocolate to ice cream sundaes and a banana split to California sundaes. You can create your own Quake Shake blended with three Ghirardelli Chocolate Squares and so much more. The full menu is on the Disneyland app. There's also raspberry sorbet and a Vanilla Coconut non-dairy flavor available.
The cute D23 background in this photo is no longer there. But you will find a cool San Fransokyo Square mural in its place.
Adorable Snowman's Frosted Treats
It is not advertised as such but this is the Dole Whip spot of DCA. Enjoy dairy-free and gluten-free "It's Lemon!" or "It's Mango!" (or get them swirled if you can't decide). Chile-Lime Mango comes with Chamoy, chile-lime seasoning and diced mango. Our favorite fun treat is the Pixar Pier Frosty Parfait.
There are also two adult drinks that are toadally fun. There's a Chile-Lime Mango Margarita, but my personal favorite is the Pixar Pier Frosty Parfait with Blue Curaço.
Frozen Drinks
Speaking of frozen drinks, there are a lot of choices in this park. Some are non-alcoholic and some are just for adults:
- Smokejumpers shake (with seasonal flavors)
- Schmoozies smoothies and seasonal shakes
- Hard floats at Clarabelle's
- Rita's Turbine Blenders Turbine Twirler with choice of frozen wild cherry, frozen lemon-lime, frozen strawberry or frozen blue raspberry slushy topped with a peach gummy ring
- BingBong's Sweet Stuff Frozen Memory Refreshers (colorful themed slushes, some with toppings or popping pearls)
- Chillers (frozen Coca-Cola or Fanta flavors) at Paradise Gardens Park
- Frozen slushes near the entrance to Radiator Springs Racers
Downtown Disney Ice Cream and Frozen Treats
Black Tap Crazy Shakes
These shakes are crazy as advertised, coming topped with candy, cake and other baked goods. Look for seasonal flavors. This location also has dairy-free ice cream.
Salt & Straw
Stop at no other than Salt & Straw for homemade creative flavors. There are monthly flavors that change all the time. We love the vegan flavors as well, especially the freckled Mint TCHO-colate Chip! If you can't decide, you can split your scoop between two flavors.
Marceline’s Confectionery
Did you know you can get Mickey Bars here without entering a theme park?
Disney Hotels Ice Cream and Frozen Treats
You can get Mickey Bars and Mickey ice cream sandwiches by the hotel pools. But there are a few other spots to get some cool treats. Goofy's Kitchen has a frozen yogurt machine (with toppings) during both breakfast and dinner.
At the Disneyland Hotel, hop by Tangaroa Terrace for Dole Whip and Dole Whip floats. We feel that the portions are more generous at this location than in the parks ... just sayin'. You adults can even get a Dole Whip with rum float! This location also sells Mickey ice cream bars and Mickey ice cream sandwiches. Next door, Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar also has adult Dole Whip floats for adults. Yum!
If you like your ice cream presented as Mickey shaped (and let's face it, who doesn't?) we have a new option for you! Palm Breeze Bar at Disneyland Hotel's Discovery Tower has the cutest Mickey-shaped desserts, including a chocolate chip cookie sandwich with vanilla ice cream and edible ears.
There are a lot of yummy Disneyland ice cream and frozen treat choices. How ever will you choose? Our solution is to share so we can taste more items. One way to budget more ice cream money is to save money on your Disneyland Resort theme park tickets and hotels by purchasing through Undercover Tourist!
