Fall might just be the most underrated time to visit Disneyland Resort, and we're here to tell you why it deserves a spot on your travel calendar. From spooky seasonal overlays and after-hours events, to crisp mornings and shorter wait times, there's so much to fall for at the Happiest Place on Earth. Let's break down what to expect during a fall visit to Disneyland, including crowds, weather, seasonal events and our favorite reasons to go.

Fall Crowds at Disneyland
One of the biggest perks of visiting Disneyland in the fall is the dip in crowd levels, especially after Labor Day. While Halloween Time does bring in more guests (especially on weekends and during Oogie Boogie Bash nights), you’ll generally find lighter crowds on weekdays in September and early November.
Fall break weeks and the weeks around Halloween can be busier, so if you’re hoping to avoid the crowds, aim for mid-September or early November before the holiday season officially kicks off. Be sure to check our Crowd Calendar for daily crowd levels and recommended parks.
Fall Weather at Disneyland
Say goodbye to summer heat and hello to sweater weather — kind of. Fall weather at Disneyland is typically mild and much more comfortable than the hot summer months. Daytime temps usually hover in the 70s and low 80s, while mornings and evenings can be cool enough for a light jacket.
Keep in mind that Southern California weather can still surprise you, so pack layers and sunscreen to be ready for anything.
Fall Events at Disneyland
Fall means Halloween Time at Disneyland Resort, and the parks go all out. Expect festive decor, Halloween-themed treats and seasonal overlays on some of your favorite attractions. The characters in Town Square will have hints of the Disneyland 70th in their Halloween outfits this year.
Oogie Boogie Bash
Held on select nights at Disney California Adventure, Oogie Boogie Bash is a separately ticketed event packed with Halloween fun. Enjoy immersive trick-or-treat trails with fan-favorite and party-exclusive villains, rare character sightings, the villainous "Frightfully Fun Parade" and shorter wait times for select rides. The villains you might see tend to change up every year, making for an exciting treat.
Pluto's Pumpkin Pursuit
This family-friendly scavenger hunt takes place around Downtown Disney and inside Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. Themed pumpkins featuring Disney characters are hidden in plain sight. Purchase a map, hunt them down and turn it in for a fun seasonal keepsake. It's a great way to add a little extra fall fun to your visit. There are three separate maps, so you can choose where you'd like to look for pumpkins. That means you can select Downtown Disney and enjoy some fall fun with no theme park ticket required!
Run Disney Halloween Weekend
The Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon Weekend takes place Sept. 4-7, 2025. This spooktacular weekend combines the festiveness of Halloween Time at Disneyland with the classic runDisney fun. Featuring yoga, kids races, spooky challenges and more, it's a perfect addition to the Halloween season. runDisney is fun no matter when you choose to participate, but we love the Halloween weekend the most! It's so fun to see everyone dressed up while they run. Keep in mind that this race falls during the hottest season of the year. You'll want to hydrate well before, during and after this event.
Goofy's Kitchen
You can have some Halloween fun outside the parks at Goofy's Kitchen Halloween breakfast, brunch or dinner at the Disneyland Hotel! Dine with Goofy and pals in their Halloween costumes! (They usually pull out their park costumes from the previous year for this meal.) Enjoy special Halloween food items, themed decor, music, PhotoPass digital downloads and a Halloween-themed button.
Happiest Haunts Guided Tour
If you cannot get enough of Halloween at Disneyland, you might want to look into the Disney's Happiest Haunts Guided Tour. The two-hour guided tour in Disneyland Park includes chilling stories, thrilling experiences, Lightning Lane entry for Haunted Mansion Holiday preferred viewing for Halloween Screams, a nighttime spectacular! (The viewing is likely near the Partners statue in the Hub.) It's the only way to get a photo op with the the animatronic Witch from Snow White. The tour also comes with a souvenirs pin. Find the details in our Disneyland tours post.
Storytellers Cafe Autumn Brunch
Storytellers Cafe also jumps in on the Halloween fun with an autumn-inspired breakfast and brunch. Mickey's Autumn Adventures breakfast or Brunch Buffet runs Aug. 22 through Nov. 16, 2025. You can enjoy seasonal decor, seasonal foods and take photos with characters in their festive fall looks.
There's also a brand-new Clarabelle’s Enchanted Halloween Dinner Aug. 22 through Oct. 31, 2025.
Our Favorite Reasons to Visit in Fall
There's something extra magical about Disneyland in the fall. Here are a few of our favorite reasons to plan a trip:
Pumpkins Galore
Perhaps the greatest part of Disneyland in the fall is all the pumpkins. Giant character pumpkins sit atop the main gates to Disneyland Park. And pumpkins line the shops and rooftops of Main Street, U.S.A. But the best (ginormous!) pumpkin of all sits right at the top of Main Street, U.S.A., smiling on one side and winking on the other. Pumpkin Mickey is a staple for Disneyland in fall. And there are so many more colorful and festive decorations around the resort.
Haunted Mansion Holiday
Jack Skellington takes over the Haunted Mansion with a Nightmare Before Christmas twist that blends Halloween and Christmas into one frightfully festive ride. And it's not your typical ride overlay. Haunted Mansion becomes an entirely different ride, from head to toe, during the fall and winter seasons.
From eerie wreaths and character animatronics to different music, a completely different stretching room scene and a new ginormous gingerbread house in the ballroom each year, the ride is toadally transformed into Haunted Mansion Holiday. Jack definitely has a knack for taking things over!
Did you know you can also meet Jack and Sally in New Orleans Square during Halloween time? They are one of our favorite character meet and greets of the whole year! jack has a new look as of 2025!
Cars Land Haul-O-Ween
Radiator Springs gets a spooky makeover as the residents gear up for "Haul-O-Ween"! The entirety of Cars Land is decked out with cobwebs, car-part pumpkins and fun Halloween touches that make it feel like a tire-screeching good time. Don’t miss Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween and Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree. These Cars Land ride overlays are filled with silly, spooky fun that the whole family will love.
Halloween Entertainment
At night, Halloween Screams lights up the skies above Disneyland Park with spooky projections, haunting music and appearances from your favorite Disney villains. On select nights, fireworks add even more magic to this ghoulishly good time. During the day, catch Mickey, Minnie, Donald and the gang as they roll through Disneyland Park in their Halloween best! This spirited mini-parade features festive floats, upbeat music and plenty of chances to wave at your favorite characters in adorable (and not-too-spooky) costumes.
The cavalcade is also full of your favorite Disney villains!
The tadpoles have a not-so-scary interactive stage show starring Mickey Mouse, Minnie, Goofy and Donald (along with a mad scientist). Mickey's Trick and Treat takes place in the Disney Theatre in Disney California Adventure. This show is a great Halloween Time addition for toddlers and small children. Plus, you get a treat at the end!
Plaza de la Familia
Celebrate Día de los Muertos with this heartwarming seasonal offering at Disney California Adventure. Plaza de la Familia honors the spirit of family with beautiful decorations, Mexican-inspired food, crafts and a vibrant performance of A Musical Celebration of Coco. It’s a colorful, cultural tribute that brings the story of Coco to life, and it’s one of our favorite hidden gems of the season. Plus, you can meet Miguel himself (in puppet form) inside the plaza and enjoy themed crafts. We have a post on celebrating Día de los Muertos.
Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark and Other Ride Layovers
After nightfall, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! transforms into a darker, scarier adventure in Disney California Adventure. In this version, Rocket needs your help rescuing Groot from creatures running wild inside the Collector’s fortress, all set to a heavy-metal soundtrack. As thrill lovers, we can't get enough of this Halloween Time version!
Hop over to Cars Land for two more ride layovers: Mater's Graveyard JamBOOree and Luigi's Honkin' Haul-O-Ween.
Disney Grand California Hotel & Spa Decorations
Whether you are a hotel guest or not, be sure to hop into the lobby of Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa to see a Halloween-themed cake. These cakes are not your run-of-the-mill creation. They are huge and impossibly detailed. Every year, a new iconic cake appears inside the lobby. And while you're there, make sure to pick up sweet treats at the holiday cookie cart. You can even get the popular Mickey gingerbread! This year, you can also watch pumpkin carvers turn gourds into masterpieces! Hop by the spa for Halloween-inspired treatments.
Fall Treats and Flavors
One of the best parts of visiting Disneyland in the fall? The seasonal snacks! From pumpkin spice churros and caramel apple beignets to spooky-themed cupcakes and cake pops to creative cold brews, there's no shortage of limited-time treats to try.
Both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure roll out special fall menus packed with cozy flavors and creative sweets, perfect for snacking your way through the parks.
Spooky and Autumnal Merchandise
Possibly the best merchandise of the whole year drops at Disneyland in fall. You’ll find everything from Halloween-themed Spirit Jerseys and cozy sweatshirts to pumpkin Mickey ears, spooky home décor and adorable plushes. It's the perfect time to stock up on seasonal souvenirs or grab a few gifts for fellow Disney fans back home!
And just look at the adorably spooky food novelties. There are popcorn buckets, sippers, straw clips, tumblers and so much more!
Disneyland 70th in Fall 2025
The Disneyland 70th anniversary celebration continues with select entertainment this fall. During Halloween season, you can still enjoy the Paint the Night parade (through Nov. 9, 2025), Tapestry of Happiness projections and World of Color Happiness!
Come November, World of Color Happiness! and Tapestry of Happiness will continue to delight audiences. All the 70th entertainment will return at some point in 2026.
Holiday Time Kicks off Early
Holiday Time actually begins in fall, as of Nov. 14, 2025. That's another of our favorite fall times to visit Disneyland. You get to enjoy special holiday decor, characters in holiday outfits, ride overlays and so much new food! Enjoy the Festival of Holidays at Disney California Adventure, and A Christmas Fantasy Parade and Believe...In Holiday Magic fireworks show at Disneyland. There are also themed holiday dining at the Disneyland Resort hotel restaurants.
Whether you’re in it for the lighter crowds, the spooky fun or just an excuse to eat a pumpkin Mickey beignet, fall is a fantastic time to visit Disneyland. What are you most excited about?
