The Ins and Outs of Disney World’s Advance Dining Reservation System

Inside This Post Inside This Post

As you've probably learned by now, Walt Disney World vacations require lots of planning, and dining is no different. While the quick-service restaurants in the parks are always an option, most families visiting Disney World would like to include at least one table-service meal. For that, we highly recommend making Advance Dining Reservations, or "ADRs" for short. With dinner shows, character meals, fine dining, buffets, deluxe views and everything in between, it's safe to say you'll want to book an ADR or two for your next trip!

Ins and Outs of Disney World Advanced Dining Reservations - Mobile Check-In Sign

Did you know that Undercover Tourist offers exclusive savings on Walt Disney World® Resort Vacation Packages? Bundle your Theme Park tickets, resort hotel stay and an optional dining plan and save BIG — up to 35% off for select stays through Sept. 30, 2025!

Overview of Disney World Dining Reservations

With four theme parks, Disney Springs and multiple resort hotels, Disney World offers more than 100 table-service restaurants to choose from! There's a wide variety of cuisine, restaurant styles and theming.

For some of you, dining at Disney World is a big-time affair. If you see your trip as a once-in-a-lifetime experience and want to pull out all the stops, you should consider making reservations for at least one character dining experience and a few table-service restaurants, maybe for one of the hard-to-get restaurants or even for a romantic night out while the tadpoles stay with a babysitter. If this sounds like you, you'll want to make reservations as early as possible and consider staying on-site, especially during the busiest times.

Ins and Outs of Disney World Advanced Dining Reservations - Topolino's Bread Spread

However, if fine dining or character dining is less of a priority, you don't need to lose too much sleep over Disney World dining reservations. Unless you are visiting during one of the busiest times of the year, you should be able to find a few table-service options much closer to your actual trip date (especially at EPCOT), or even while you're there. If you're fortunate enough to be visiting during the least-busy times of the year, you'll have even more last-minute choices. Don't froget — you can cancel up to two hours before your reservation. And keep in mind that Disney has tons of tasty quick-service options, as well. Even if you don't book any dining reservations, you'll never go hungry!

Planning Your Disney World Dining Reservations

Guide to Advanced Dining Reservations - The Hollywood Brown Derby

All guests (even those staying off-site) can make Disney World dining reservations. Unlike some perks offered exclusively to those staying on-site at a Disney World hotel (such as the Early Theme Park Entry benefit), ADRs are available to all guests, regardless of where you're staying.

Park admission is required for in-park dining. Just to be clear, you must have valid theme park admission (and a Disney Park Pass reservation for select ticket types) for the location of your meal. So, if you're dining at the Jungle Skipper Canteen, you'll need to have the proper tickets to enter Magic Kingdom for the date of your meal.

You can make Disney World dining reservations for your trip starting 60 days in advance. (In the past, this window had been 180 days.) No matter what time of year you’ll be visiting, we recommend making reservations as close as you can to the magical 60-day mark. For guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel (including Shades of Green), you’ll have 60 days in advance of your check-in day ... plus, you can make dining reservations for your entire stay, up to 10 days. This is quite an advantage if dining is a priority, especially during the busiest times, so you'll want to make sure you book your Disney World hotel room before the dining reservation window opens for your trip. Then you can book all of your days at once (Hop Tip: Start with the most in-demand restaurants on your list first when reserving).

It's not uncommon to find that the most popular restaurants, such as Cinderella's Royal Table and Be Our Guest, can fill up quickly. The longer you wait, the less chance you’ll have of eating at one of your favorite restaurants or experiencing a dinner show. That said, there are still ways of snagging those last-minute reservations, which we'll discuss below.

Be Our Guest Restaurant at Magic Kingdom

Making advance dining reservations is just one step of the planning process! For a full timeline of planning out your Disney World trip, check out our Jump Start guide, which has all of the info you need in one place.

If reservations are really important to you, make sure you have already planned which days you will be going to the parks before your 60-day reservation window opens. It is almost impossible to plan daily meals for your vacation without knowing where you’re going each day. You can use our Crowd Calendar to help you decide which parks to visit on which day. Keep in mind, reservations do sometimes start ahead of park opening hours, and you can get into the parks early. Sometimes you can also snag reservations close to or after the official park closure time, as well. (You'll find this is very common with Oga's Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, for instance.)

For those of you staying off-site, if you have a dining reservation in the park before it opens, you will be allowed in early (usually about 30 minutes before the start of your reservation). Look for cast members with signs for reservation check-in, or specially marked turnstiles. This can sometimes be a good strategy for getting a jump on popular attractions if the restaurant is further back in the park. Be Our Guest in Magic Kingdom, for example, offers early reservations and is right near two of the most popular attractions in the park: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Peter Pan's Flight.

Booking Your Disney World Dining Reservations

Ins and Outs of Disney World Advanced Dining Reservations - Les Chefs de France

Make sure you have the latest version of the My Disney Experience app. Several new features are only supported on the latest version of the app, so update the app before your trip to take advantage of them. For example, when you arrive for a dining reservation, you can use Mobile Dine Check-In at select restaurants through the app. From a push notification or QR code, you'll be able to check in. Once your table is ready, you'll be notified to proceed to a specified location. Note that you'll need to enable location services and be very close to the dining location to allow online check-in.

If, on the other hand, you did not get advance dining reservations and decide to eat at a participating table-service restaurant once you are there, you can use the app to add yourself to the Mobile Walk-Up List. You can scan a QR code in the restaurant lobby and proceed via the app. My Disney Experience is also where you can view menus for any restaurant and Mobile Order for quick-service restaurants.

Have your credit card ready when you make your Disney World dining reservations. Make sure you have a credit card ready before booking your dining reservations. You can also enter your credit card information in your My Disney Experience account in advance. Disney holds your reservation with a credit card guarantee, and if you do not show up to your reservation or cancel within two hours of your reservation, you will be charged $10 a person. Disney does not charge you in advance for your meal unless you are booking a dinner show (such as Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue) or dinner at Cinderella’s Royal Table inside Cinderella Castle.

Disney World Advanced Dining Reservations

Here's how to book Disney World dining reservations online: Log into your My Disney Experience account and under the Things to Do tab, click Make Reservations under Dining. The reservation window opens around 5:45 a.m. ET each day (the reservation hotline opens up at 7 a.m. ET). This will take you to another page that lists all of the restaurants on property. You’ll then enter the number of people in your party, date and time of day, and can filter your results by park, resort hotel or area (such as Disney Springs or Disney's BoardWalk). The search results will show which restaurants have availability that day. You can then click on the desired time and create your reservation. Voila!

In a recent update to the website, you can filter to see all available times at a restaurant versus only a select few, making it easier to see all possible choices. You may also choose to look at only reservations for breakfast, lunch or dinner. If looking at one restaurant, you can also now select a range of dates and you'll be given a list of all available timeslots for those dates. We are very happy with this feature as it makes it easier when booking for your entire trip.

Once you finish entering your details, your reservation should appear on your My Disney Experience account. You can make same-day reservations for restaurants if they’re available. If you need to cancel your dining reservation or change the number of people dining, you can do so on the website, so long as your reservation is not within two hours. At that point, visit Guest Relations in the parks or call the reservation hotline to modify your existing reservation.

Here's how to make a Disney World dining reservation on the My Disney Experience app: Click on the plus sign in a circle at the bottom of the screen, which will pop up with different options. Choose Check Dining Availability and enter the number of people in the party, date and time of day — as well as an option for "now" to see same-day, walk-up availability. You can also search for reservations in the app by experience or cuisine and location. Just like on the site, you can make same-day reservations for restaurants if they’re available.

Making Disney World dining reservations over the phone: Making an ADR over the phone should be used only when you do not have access to the app or website, or need to cancel a reservation within two hours leading up to it. To make or cancel a reservation over the phone, call 407-WDW-DINE and listen to each of the options.

Tips for Disney World Dining Reservations

Disney World Advanced Dining Reservations — Date range selection

You can search through a range of dates. Available on either the website or app, you can now search for multiple dates when viewing a restaurant. On the website, once you select your initial date, you can click on "Check Availability for Multiple Days." This will take you to a calendar where you can select one to 10 days. On the app, the calendar will pop up after you select "Reserve Dining." This makes it a lot easier to find reservations, especially if you are flexible with your dates.

You can now cancel your reservation up to two hours in advance. An update now allows guests to cancel dining reservations on the app up to two hours before with no penalty. If you cancel after that or do not show up, you will pay the cancellation fee of $10 per person. Previously, the window was 24 hours in advance. This feature is extra hopful for when plans change the day of.

Note that exclusions apply and certain dining experiences, such as Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, Victoria & Albert's and Monsieur Paul, have their own separate cancellation policies.

Ins and Outs of Disney World Advanced Dining Reservations - Mobile Check-In and Availability Sign

How to snag last-minute reservations: We like to think there is an art to snagging last-minute reservations, but sometimes it's just good old-fashioned luck. If we have a last-minute trip to Disney or we've waited to book dining reservations, we've had luck scoring popular restaurants. As soon as we've finalized our plans for which park we'll be at on which day, we start checking My Disney Experience periodically for the week or so leading up to our trip (and refreshing a few times as well). This is when other guests are also finalizing their trip details, and sometimes end up deciding not to keep their dining reservations. You can sometimes grab day-of reservations as people cancel.

In a recent update to the website version, you can now see all available times on any given day, making it easier to find the best reservation timeframe for you. If looking on the My Disney Experience app, we recommend clicking on various times instead of only checking meal sections. So instead of only clicking on "lunch," we recommend clicking the 12 p.m. slot, then the 1 p.m. slot, and so on until something pops up.

We've also had luck obtaining same-day reservations by simply showing up and asking about availability. It never hurts. We've even been able to snag same-day reservations when there was rain. Because EPCOT has so many dining options, you can often find last-minute reservations for some of its restaurants.

The Mobile Dine Walk-up List is another option if you come across a participating restaurant. You can look for Mobile Dine Walk-up availability in the app. Scan a QR code in the restaurant lobby and add your party to the list.

Disney Dining Reservations - STK

If you want to dine at Disney Springs, also try Open Table. Many of the most popular restaurants at Disney Springs, such as The BOATHOUSE, Morimoto Asia and Raglan Road, offer additional reservation times on Open Table. So if you can't snag an ADR or the time you want isn't available in My Disney Experience, try Open Table.

Arrive on time. Disney is strategic with the way it schedules its reservations. Be sure to arrive on time, if not early, to make things easier for everyone! If your reservation is at the start of a dining period (some restaurants are only open for breakfast and dinner, with a break ending around 4 p.m.), there is likely to be a rush of new guests. We've also had good luck with checking in 15 minutes early and being sat fairly quickly.

So there you have it: our favorite tips for making Disney dining reservations. We want to hear YOUR favorite ADR spots in the comments. Have a question? Just ask. If you have tips we didn't mention, share them in the comments below.

Hi! I'm staying at a Disney Resort for 5 days this fall and I'm a bit unclear on which date I can start making reservations! Do I make my reservation 60 days out from my check in date, or 65 days out from my check-in date (since I'm staying 5 days). Thanks!

Hi Kay!

You can start making reservations 60 days in advance from your check-in date. Since you're staying at a Disney hotel, you'll be able to make reservations for the remaining days of your trip at the same time. For that reason, we recommend starting out by searching for reservations during the last few days of your trip since only hotel guests would be able to reserve those days (thus better chances for availability).

Hi Janeen!

Most restaurants now have at least one plant-based option available, which is great! Our personal fave right now are the plant-based "meatballs" with hummus and pita from Docking Bay 7 at Hollywood Studios in Galaxy's Edge. As of now, no return date for "Fantasmic" has been announced, but we'll keep you posted if that changes!

Hi Kirk!

It doesn't hurt to keep checking periodically leading up to your trip, as cancellations do happen. While not guaranteed, the day before can also be a good time to check, as sometimes people switch plans last minute and drop their reservation to avoid the cancellation fee. But even if you don't snag a dining reservation, you can still have a great birthday experience at the resort! Check out our tips for celebrating a birthday at Disney World.

Reservations are only required for table-service restaurants (though you may find some same-day availability for walk-up lists). Counter service restaurants do not require reservations, but some only accept mobile order - so My Disney Experience is a handy tool while you're in the parks! :)

Hi Leslie!

You can book dining reservations, even if you don't have a park reservation yet, as long as you're in the 60-day booking window. You'll just need to make sure that you have a park reservation for the same park that day. (Also, if you have park hopper tickets, you do not need a theme park reservation if you're making a dining reservation after 2 p.m. at the park you're hopping to. Note that you run the small risk of the second park reaching capacity, but we'd only be concerned about that if you're visiting during an extremely busy time, as that has rarely happened ever since park hopping returned.)

Hi Dawn!

We'd suggest either checking OpenTable (if available; select Disney Springs restaurants can be booked through that site) or if not, calling the restaurant directly, as you mentioned. As for Be Our Guest, while it's not guaranteed, you can request a room upon check-in with the host. You may need to wait a little longer (if they're able to accommodate your preference), so it doesn't hurt to ask!

Just confirming, have you heard of cases where people's dining reservations were cancelled if they utilized the early booking window for disney resort guests and later cancelled their disney resort hotel reservation? Disney says that cancelling a hotel room won't automatically cancel your restaurant reservations, but now I'm wondering if the restaurant reservations *will* be cancelled if they were booked during the early booking window. I'd really appreciate any info or confirmation you have. Thank you for the wonderful website and helpful information!!

Piggybacking off of this question/making sure I understand correctly (I have a similar question):

If you have a Disney resort reservation which you have used to make dining reservations within the 60 +10 day window, your dining reservations will NOT automatically be canceled if you have to change your resort reservation? Just want to make sure that if I have to adjust hotel reservations I won't have all my dining reservations wiped out because they're linked in some way to my hotel!

Hi Jennifer!

It is possible to be logged into one account on multiple devices at the same time, though there's a small chance you could run into technical issues. To completely avoid any potential problems, you could also make a separate account for your husband and then link your accounts together via your Family and Friends list. For dining reservations though, you just need the lead guest (the default is the owner of each My Disney Experience account) and the number of guests. You can update the reservation later to add linked Family and Friends so it shows up in both accounts, but it is not necessary. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the great content! My wife and I are going to Disney World in October for our anniversary. We are staying at the All Star Movie Resort for 3 nights and doing 3 days in the park. Getting specific dining reservations (Cinderella’s Royal Table, Oga’s Cantina, etc.) is really important to us despite how hard they are to get. I know that we will be able to make reservations 60 days in advance plus the length of our stay (3 extra days). I’ve counted the days out that I’m currently able to see restaurant availability on the My Disney Experience app and it is only 60 days even though our hotel reservations are linked in the app. How do I get access to make reservations 3 days earlier than the 60 day mark - is it in the app/website or only over the phone during those extra days?

Hi Evan!

Everyone gains access at the 60-day mark (not any earlier), so what you want to do is search for the harder-to-get reservations for the second and third dates because it's still beyond the timeframe that the non-Disney hotel guests have. (In other words, non-Disney hotel guests need to make reservations every day for each day of their trip, while you would be able to make all of your reservations at the 60-day mark.) Hope this helps!

Thanks, I think this makes sense. So, from the 60-day out mark of the first date of our trip, we can also book the second and third trip day reservations as well, which gives us a 2 day head start on non-resort guests?

One other question- do we have to call the phone number to book day 2 & 3 early at the 60 day mark of our first day or will we have access on the site/app to do so?

Hi Evan!

Yes, that's correct! As long as your hotel reservation is linked to your My Disney Experience account, you should be able to make reservations for the length of your stay (aka the second and third days of your trip) on the app/website without having to call.

Restaurant reservations open at 12AM EDT!!

I am at the 60 day mark now and trying to book dining reservations... I logged on before 5:45am and found that there were already times available, but not many. The next day I tried at 12am and restaurant reservations were all available. Just thought I'd pass this on.

Hi there!

If you're navigating the My Disney Experience app, you can use the search function to type in the name of the restaurant — for example, let's say Chef Mickey's. Once you find Chef Mickey's from the search results, click on it and it will take you to the restaurant's page for more details. There's an option to reserve dining (or join a walk-up list, if available). You input the party size, and then a calendar will pop up so you can search availability. Just click through the closest dates until you find the next available time slot. Hope this helps!

How much is a dining reservation if I am not doing the dining plan?? We have a party of 40 going on Christmas. We know on the dining plan a reservation is $1 to reserve but since we are not doing dining plan this year how much would the reservation be?

Reply

FrogBlog Says...

Hi Sade,

The reservations do not cost anything in advance, but Disney will place a hold on your credit card (it would only be charged if you do not show up or cancel at least 24 hours before your reservation). Depending on your credit card company, they may issue a pending $1 charge (as you have been charged in the past) until the hold is lifted, so you will likely run into the same $1 charge when you go to make the dining reservations.

We will be staying 10 days at WDW in the fall; two people in our group will be staying at a Disney-owned resort (Wilderness Lodge), while two people will be staying at a non-Disney resort (Swan & Dolphin). When we get to 60 days before our arrival, will the two people who are staying at the Wilderness Lodge be able to make 4-person advance dining reservations for the entire length of stay on that day (and include the two people who are staying at Swan & Dolphin in those reservations)?

Perfect! So it sounds like there should be no problem for the 2 people in our party who will be staying at Wilderness Lodge to make all of the ADRs for the full length of stay (10 days) as soon as we hit 60 days from their check in, to be reservations for 4 people (including the 2 people who will be staying at Swan & Dolphin), and we won't have to do day-by-day reservations to add in those staying at S&D.

That's correct - the one caveat is that you may run into issues if they try to link to the guests who aren't staying on-site in My Disney Experience (which is to say, don't add the guest staying off-site to the dining party; leave them listed as Guest).

Hi Kayla,

Unfortunately, there's no way to receive alerts when more dining reservations become available. We've gotten last-minute reservations by pure luck and chance. If it's not a Disney-owned restaurant, you can call the restaurant directly (for instance, T-REX at Disney Springs), but otherwise, all reservations must be made through the Disney dining reservation system.

Hi Cathy,

For peace of mind, we would suggest calling, so you're able to confirm that your niece can be added to the reservation. If you don't want the hassle of a phone call, you can also continue to check availability to see if any new reservations for a party of 4 pop up, and cancel the old ones. If you do show up at the restaurant on the day of, there's a chance the restaurant may not be able to accommodate the extra person, but with mobile check-in, you'll confirm the number of people in your party. If you add a person, it may delay your reservation. (Alternatively, you could also check-in with the host a couple hours before your reservation to see if it'd be possible to add a person.)

Hi Brenda,

If you're checking as soon as the system opens, then it's likely that the guests who are staying on-site and can reserve dining reservations for the length of their stay (up to 10 days) are sharing some overlap with the timeframe you're going. So if they're booking the dining reservations toward the end of their trip, then by the time you're able to check, there may not be any left, especially if you're trying for the more popular restaurants that book quickly. However, if you're not seeing any for smaller, less popular restaurants, I'd suggest calling the dining reservation hotline to see if they can help out. Otherwise, keep checking periodically because people will cancel reservations and more times could become available.

It is possible to book online, but each restaurant has a different maximum number of guests per party, which is why it can be more difficult for larger parties to book online. We'd suggest trying to book online first to see what you can get, and if needed, call the reservation line for help with snagging any others.

Hi Mike,

Reservation times should pop up by time or timeframe (lunch/dinner) if they become available, so checking each individual time slot isn't necessary. However, if you do check individual time slots, it'll refresh every time you select one (more chances for one to pop up suddenly), versus only checking the lunch or dinner timeframes. That said, if selecting lunch shows no reservations available, then selecting noon shouldn't have anything either (unless one were to pop up if you refresh at that exact moment).

The dining hotline opens up at 7 a.m. if you want to make ADRs over the phone, but online reservations begin at 6 a.m. with select restaurants starting as early as 5:45 a.m. (We've updated this post to specify these two times.) Additionally, Disney Resort hotel guests are able to book up to 60 days in advance, plus the length of their stay up to 10 days. If you were trying to make a reservation for one of the earlier days during your trip, then that date may have overlapped with hotel guests who have arrival dates just before you and already made their reservations for the later part of their vacation.

Hi Kevin,

You can start making online reservations on the Disney World website or through the My Disney Experience app starting at 6 a.m. (Eastern Time) while the phone lines open up at 7 a.m. Additionally, Disney Resort hotel guests are able to book up to 60 days in advance, plus the length of their stay up to 10 days. If you were trying to make a reservation for one of the earlier days during your trip, then that date may have overlapped with hotel guests who have arrival dates just before you and already made their reservations for the later part of their vacation.

Since Oga's Cantina is a hoppin' spot with limited capacity, those reservations have been filling up very quickly. We recommend checking periodically leading up to your trip (including the day before - some tend to wait for flexibility but cancel a day before to avoid the 24-hour cancelation fee) in case any reservations become available.

Hi Nancy,

Typically, bus transportation ends about an hour after park close (though during busier periods, it can be up to two hours). If the buses have stopped running after your dinner, don't fret — we have a few suggestions! Likely, you won't be the only ones dining after hours. Especially as a Disney Resort hotel guest, Disney will not leave you stranded. You may need to talk to a Cast Member and wait a while for a bus, but they will take care of you. A couple of other alternative options would be: 1) Take the short walk over to Contemporary Resort, hop on a bus to Disney Springs and once there, transfer to a bus for Coronado Springs. 2) Walk over to Contemporary Resort (since the monorail also stops and you wouldn't be able to get to TTC where the ride share pick-up is for Magic Kingdom) and grab an Uber or Lyft.
