One of the highlights of taking a Disney cruise is the froggerific ports of call that the cruise ship visits. In this post, we share our tips and everything you need to know about Disney Cruise Port Adventures (also known as shore excursions). From cultural immersion to thrilling adventures, these experiences offer guests the opportunity to explore destinations around the world while on their Disney cruise. We cannot wait to share everything about the magic of Disney's Port Adventures and why they're the perfect way to enhance your cruise vacation!

Types of Disney Cruise Port Adventures
No matter where your Disney cruise takes you, there’s likely a Port Adventure for your travel style. From relaxing beach days to once-in-a-lifetime experiences, Disney Cruise Line makes it easy to explore each destination. Here’s a quick look at the kinds of excursions you might find:
Cultural Experiences
Dive into the local culture with guided tours, nature walks, historic sites or unique encounters such as feeding stingrays at Disney Castaway Cay. These are a fun way to connect with the places you visit.
Adventure and Thrills
Love a little adrenaline? Look for zip-lining, snorkeling, ATV rides or even helicopter tours that land on glaciers. These are perfect for travelers who like action-packed days.
Family Fun
From beach breaks to wildlife encounters, Disney has plenty of family-friendly options that keep everyone, from toddlers to teens, happy and entertained.
Foodie Favorites
Cooking classes, food tours and tastings let you explore the flavors of each port. It’s a delicious way to dive into the local scene (and try something new!).
Private Adventures
If you prefer a more personal experience, you can book a private tour, yacht charter or even a day at a seaside villa. These are great for families or small groups who want more space and flexibility.
Accessible Options
Disney also provides accessible Port Adventures with wheelchair-friendly routes, transportation and support so more guests can explore comfortably.
Benefits of Booking a Disney Cruise Line Port Adventure
When you book a Port Adventure through Disney Cruise Line, everything’s taken care of. The biggest perk is peace of mind. If your Disney excursion runs late, the ship will wait for you. That’s not always the case with third-party tours. Plus, if anything doesn’t go as planned, you can get help directly from Guest Services onboard.
How to Book a Disney Cruise Port Adventure
Booking a Disney Cruise Line Port Adventure is a straightforward process. First, you'll want to explore the Port Adventures section on the Disney Cruise Line website, where you can browse all the offerings for the various ports. Make a wishlist for the Port Adventures you want to book.
Once your cruise is paid in full and your booking window has opened (more on that below), you can log in to the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app or the Disney Cruise website. Alternatively, you can book Port Adventures through Disney's Guest Services or by calling our personal cruise concierge service at 833-UCT-SAIL (833-828-7245). Hop to book early as availability can be limited, especially for popular excursions.
Once onboard, you can book excursions at the Port Adventures desk.
When does my Disney Port Adventures booking window open?
Booking Port Adventures on Disney Cruise Line is tiered based on your Castaway Club status. Your status is based on the number of previous completed sailings. Castaway Club booking windows are as follows:
- Concierge guests: 130 days prior by contacting the Shoreside Concierge Associate team
- Pearl (25+ sailings): 123 days prior to sail date
- Platinum (10 sailings): 120 days prior to sail date
- Gold (5 to 9 sailings): 105 days prior to sail date
- Silver (1 to 4 cruises): 90 days prior to sail date
- First-time cruisers: 75 days prior to sailing
We recommend booking your Port Adventure as soon as the window opens at midnight EST to ensure you have the best chance of getting the activities you want. In our experience, we find that the Disney Cruise Line website is much quicker to load than trying within the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app.
Our recommendation is to log in to the Disney Cruise website at 11:50 p.m. EST the night leading up to when your window opens. Locate your cruise (click “Already Booked” then “My Reservations”). Make sure the correct cruise is selected and then click "My Plans." Right at midnight when your booking window opens, refresh the page and once the page loads, the “Add Activities” button will appear for each day. You can then add the excursions you want on the specific days. It is best to have a plan (remember your wish list?) and book your top priorities first for the best chance of getting everything you want.
What if the Port Adventure I want is already booked?
If the Port Adventure you wanted is full, there are still options. First, keep checking for availability up until your sail date, as cancellations can (and often do) occur, freeing up spots.
Once you arrive at the cruise port, connect to the ship’s Wi-Fi and check the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app to see if any spots have opened up. This has worked really well for us with getting last-minute Port Adventures!
Once on the ship, you can also inquire at the Port Adventures desk about any last-minute openings. You can also visit the Port Adventures desk or Guest Services to put your name on a waitlist.
Which Port Adventure should I do?
When choosing port adventures, it's important to consider the interests, activity levels and ages of your group. With such a wide range of options, our best recommendation is to pick the Port Adventures that sound the most magical to you and your travel party.
Do I have to do a Port Adventure?
No, you don’t have to book a Port Adventure. Guests are welcome to disembark the ship and explore independently. You can also choose to stay onboard and enjoy the ship's amenities with fewer crowds.
What are the pros and cons of booking an excursion with a third party?
Booking an excursion with a third party instead of Disney comes with its own set of pros and cons. Third-party excursions often have more competitive pricing and a wider range of experiences. With third-party excursions, there is also no constraint for when you can book. Excursions may fully book before your window opens with Disney, but this is typically not an issue with a third-party.
However, there are a few things to keep in mind. While Disney Cruise Line excursions are vetted for quality and safety, you're responsible for all coordination and communication with a third party. Disney likely can’t help with directions or meeting points for third-party tours. Most importantly, if your ship is delayed or skips a port, Disney will take care of any excursions booked through them, but if you booked with an outside company, you’ll have to handle it yourself. Think through the pros and cons to decide what’s best for your trip.
What is the Disney Port Adventures cancellation policy?
Guests can cancel or modify their Port Adventures up to three days before the cruise departure without incurring any penalties. Within the three-day window, cancellations and changes are generally not permitted, and the full cost of the excursion will be charged. However, certain excursions may have different cancellation policies, especially those involving tickets to events or activities with limited availability.
Be sure to review the specific terms and conditions for each Port Adventure when booking. For last-minute cancellations, you can also inquire at the Port Adventures desk. In cases where a Port Adventure is canceled by Disney Cruise Line due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, a full refund will be provided to guests.
Can I book Port Adventures for a large group?
Linking cruise reservations is a great way to ensure that you and your travel crew can book Port Adventures together. This process involves connecting your reservation with those of your friends or family members who are traveling on the same cruise.
Once linked, all parties can coordinate and book Port Adventures as a group. To link reservations, guests can contact Disney Cruise Line, provide the necessary reservation numbers and guest details.
Are there benefits of skipping a port day? Can I just stay on the ship?
Staying on the ship during a port day can be just as fun as going ashore. With most guests off exploring, the ship is quieter, so you’ll find less crowds at the pool, waterslides, fitness center and at the bars and lounges. Many activities such as trivia games and character meet-and-greets still hoppen, too.
It’s also a great chance to just relax. Cruises can be busy, so a quiet day onboard can help you recharge. Enjoy a slow breakfast, read on a peaceful deck or treat yourself to the spa. Restaurants stay open, so you can eat whenever you’re ready.
Plus, the kids’ clubs stay open, which is perfect for families who need a low-key day to rest.
How to Check In for Your Port Adventure
When you're ready to embark on your Port Adventure, you'll need to check in at the designated meeting point specified in your excursion details. This information is provided in the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app along with your Port Adventure information.
Common meeting locations include specific lounges, theaters or other easily identifiable areas onboard the ship. At Disney’s Castaway Cay or Disney Lookout Cay, designated buildings such as the Boat Beach at Castaway Cay and Turbot Berth at Lookout Cay host Port Adventures. Guests should arrive at the meeting point on time, as the excursions depart on schedule.
Port Adventures will typically return to the same location where they started.
Disney Cruise Port Adventures Tips
Here are our top tips to help you make the most of your day ashore:
- Know Your All Aboard Time — It may seem like common sense but always know your ship’s all aboard time. We suggest returning at least 30 minutes early. Disney Cruise Line is known for its punctuality, and while Disney Port Adventures are guaranteed to get you back on time, third-party excursions or independent explorations are not. The all aboard time is listed in the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app and announced onboard, so be sure to double-check before you disembark.
- Pack Smart — Depending on your excursion, you may need to bring a few essentials. We recommend packing your Key to the World card (required for exiting and re-boarding the ship), photo ID (and passport, if required), cash or credit card, water bottle, sunscreen, swimsuit (if applicable), change of clothes (if needed), poncho, rain jacket or small umbrella (for unpredictable weather) and portable phone charger.
- Leave the Towels Onboard — Towels are typically available to grab as you leave the ship for beach and water-based excursions, but feel free to stop by the Port Adventures desk onboard to double-check. The Disney Cruise Line Navigator app will note if any additional items are recommended for your specific tour.
- Budget for Gratuities — Gratuities are not included and it’s customary to tip your guide and driver if you enjoyed the experience. We recommend bringing small bills in local currency or U.S. dollars (accepted in most ports). A general guideline is $2–$5 per person for the driver and $5–$10 per person for the guide, but you can always adjust based on service.
- Arrive Early to the Meeting Point — Each Port Adventure has a designated meeting time and location listed in the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. Plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early so you can check in and hear any important instructions. Some excursions depart directly from the port terminal, while others start with a short walk or shuttle ride from the ship.
- Use the Disney Cruise Line Navigator App — Before you disembark, check the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app for last-minute updates and any additional details for your excursion. The app works on airplane mode while connected to the ship’s Wi-Fi, so you don’t need a data plan to use it.
- Plan for the Unexpected — Weather can change quickly, transportation might be delayed and toddlers might melt down mid-tour. Build in a little buffer time, pack snacks and roll with the unexpected.
