As of July 24, 2024, we're speeding ahead to a whole new world of Walt Disney World Lightning Lane lingo and some changes that blend the new system with the familiar territory of the former FastPass+ (and pre-planning). If you like being able to plan out your park days all at once before your trip, then these changes are for you! We're sure you have a lot of questions about the new Disney Lightning Lane Multi Pass, Lightning Lane Single Pass and overall Disney Genie Plus changes at Disney World. And beginning Oct. 30, 2024, a very limited number of Deluxe resort guests can opt into the all-in Lightning Lane Premier Pass at Disney World. Let's jump to it and answer those frequently asked questions about Walt Disney World Lightning Lanes and more.
What is Lightning Lane Multi Pass?
Lightning Lane Multi Pass is the new name for "Genie+" at both Disneyland and Disney World. (Genie+ was an optional paid service that allows the user to skip the standby line by selecting a time to access a shorter called the Lightning Lane). The name change at Disney World also comes with changes in how and when you buy and select your attractions. You can now make these selections in advance of your visit in the My Disney Experience app (similar to how guests could pre-book FastPass+, but with some differences). You can select your arrival window for each attraction in advance at Disney World. (At Disneyland, you are offered the next available arrival window on a rolling basis only after you have entered a theme park.)
What is Lightning Lane Single Pass?
Lightning Lane Single Pass is the new name for "individual Lightning Lane" at both Disneyland and Disney World. The Single Pass allows guests to pay-per-ride to skip the line for a few in-demand rides that are not included in the Multi Pass (or Genie+). Guests purchase individually as a Single Pass. At Disney World, you can book up to two in-demand Lightning Lane Single Pass attractions per day of your trip in advance. (No changes to booking at Disneyland.)
Walt Disney World Lightning Lane Single Pass Attractions (you may book two per day, and you can choose the time you want to ride):
- Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (Magic Kingdom)
- TRON Lightcycle/Run (Magic Kingdom)
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (EPCOT)
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance (Hollywood Studios)
- Avatar Flight of Passage (Animal Kingdom)
Disneyland Lightning Lane Single Pass Attractions (no changes — may purchase the same day after entering a theme park on a first-available basis):
- Radiator Springs Racers (Disney California Adventure)
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance (Disneyland)
Can I purchase Single Pass and Multi Pass Lightning Lanes without the other?
Yes. These services are separate from each other and are both optional. You can purchase both Single Pass and Multi Pass for the same day (which would give you up to two pre-planned Single Pass attractions and three Multi Pass attractions). Or you could buy one or two Single Pass attractions. You could also just purchase Multi Pass for the day. Or don't pay extra for any of it! Standby lines and virtual queues (when offered) are still ways to access the attractions at no additional cost.
When did Walt Disney World Lightning Lane replace Genie+?
Lightning Lane Passes took over for Genie+ July 24, 2024, at both Disney World and Disneyland.
Did anything change at Disneyland?
Just the names of the services changed at Disneyland — that's all. The following questions from this point forward relate to Walt Disney World Lightning Lane. If you have purchased a Disneyland ticket with Genie+, it will function with Disney Multi Pass, as of July 24. Undercover Tourist will continue to sell discount Disneyland tickets with Multi Pass included after the change. Hop over to our guide to Lightning Lane at Disneyland to learn more.

How far in advance can I plan if I'm staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel?
These changes offer a huge advantage for staying on-site at Walt Disney World. Disney World Resort hotel guests (along with guests at Shades of Green, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels or Walt Disney World Swan Reserve Hotel) can purchase and book their Lightning Lane arrivals up to seven days in advance of check-in for their length of stay up to 14 days.
You must have valid theme park admission for all the party members on your first day of eligibility to be able to book. You can purchase Lightning Lane passes as of 7 a.m. ET each day in the My Disney Experience app. You can purchase Lightning Lane Multi and Single Passes in the same transaction, per day. Just rinse and repeat for as many days as you wish to purchase Lightning Lanes during your hotel stay.
Once you are in the park and have redeemed your first Lightning Lane Multi Pass attraction, you may look for a new selection in the My Disney Experience app (subject to availability). You can book one at a time. Once you have redeemed a ride, you may select another ride from any tier if available. If you have park hopping capabilities, you can also select a ride in a different park once you've used your first Multi Pass selection. Just think, "Use one, get one" — and goodbye 120-minute rule from the Genie+ days!
How far in advance can I plan if I'm staying off-site?
Guests staying off-site who have date-based tickets can purchase and begin pre-planning up to three days prior to their ticket’s start date, for the duration of their ticket.
Guests with other forms of admission (such as non-dated tickets, annual passes and Main Entrance passes) can purchase and begin pre-planning up to three days in advance of each day of their visit.
Can I still purchase Lightning Lane in the park/day of?
Yes. You can purchase Single Pass and Multi Pass Lightning Lanes on the day of your visit; however, selections are subject to availability.
How much is Lightning Lane at Disney World?
Pricing for Lightning Lane Multi Pass varies by park and by date. Pricing for Lightning Lane Single Pass varies by attraction and date. Since pricing is dynamic, the app will have the most up-to-date pricing.
To give some ballpark estimates, the following prices are valid for Nov. 3, 2024:
Multi Pass*
- Magic Kingdom: $32 per guest
- EPCOT: $24 per guest
- Hollywood Studios: $29 per guest
- Animal Kingdom: $19 per guest
Single Pass*

*prices subject to change
Where can I find pricing beyond today's date?
You'll need to go through the motions as if you're purchasing Multi Pass or Single Pass. Click the Lightning Lane "Purchase" button on the app's home page, Tip Board or the "Lightning Lane Passes" section from the three-line hamburger menu, which will pull up the calendar availability. Once you select a date, you'll see the pricing by theme park. You can generally see about three weeks' worth of availability at a time to view pricing — however, the app will stop you from moving forward if you're not within your eligible booking window.
How does Disney Multi Pass work when park hopping?
If you are park hopping or have an annual pass, you will choose three Multi Pass experiences and arrival windows for the same park. Then, once you arrive at the park and redeem your first Multi Pass attraction, you can book another one in any park. Unlike Genie+, there isn't a park hopping price, and the app will not allow you to purchase two different Multi Passes on the same day.
As for Single Pass attractions, you can purchase experiences in two different theme parks when you have a park hopper ticket (still limited to two per day, regardless of park).
Can I purchase Lightning Lane Passes during a special event?
Lightning Lane Passes are not available for purchase during special events, including After Hours events, Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. (These special events are already limited-capacity, so you would experience shorter wait times than normal park hours.)
Can I purchase Lightning Lane Passes if an event includes early entry?
Some special events allow early admission before the event officially starts. For example, Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party guests can enter as early as 4 p.m. before the party kicks off at 7 p.m. During the transitional time, guests can go on rides. However, Lightning Lane is not available for purchase if you only have an event ticket. If you also have valid daytime admission (whether it's a dated theme park ticket or an annual pass), you could purchase and use Lightning Lanes during the pre-party time.
How do I book for my party?
You'll need to do a little advanced prep work when traveling with a group:
- Be sure to have all your party's theme park tickets in your My Disney Experience app.
- Connect everyone as friends and family.
- Have a list of your party's must-do experiences ready to go.
- Select the date and park.
- After you complete plans for your first day, you can book the next day, and so on.
- You must book all members of your party together for the same rides initially. Then, you can then go back and modify the selections for people who want to choose a different ride or experience.
How do I book if I have a larger group than 2o people?
The maximum amount of people you can book on the same Lightning Lane experience is 20. If your group is larger than that, you will need to split up into smaller groups and have multiple people booking Lightning Lanes, whether for Multi Pass or Single Pass. While the entire group may not be able to have the exact same time window, you can aim for overlapping windows so that everyone can still ride together. For instance, if you need to split into two groups, Frog #1 might grab a Lightning Lane for Seven Dwarfs from 1:15-2:15 p.m. while Frog #2 books 1:30-2:30 p.m. That way, everyone would be able to ride sometime between 1:30 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.
How do I modify my selections?
Once you've made your selections in the app, you'll see an option to modify. Once you modify, you'll have five minutes to confirm your selections. This is helpful for parties who may want to split up, or if you find you need to change your pre-planned arrival window.
Is anything staying the same as Disney Genie Plus at Disney World?
Yes. Here's what is staying the same:
- You'll still redeem your Lightning Lane selections by holding a MagicBand, MagicBand+, Disney MagicMobile pass or RFID card to the touchpoint at the Lightning Lane entrance.
- Disney PhotoPass lenses are still included.
- Disney PhotoPass attraction-photo downloads from the day of the visit are still included.
- You can still use free standby lines and virtual queues (when offered) to access rides for no additional cost.
