Our Top Tips for Visiting Disney World in July

by Leap on April 19, 2023 44 Orlando

Disney World in July - PinterestJuly marks one of the busiest months of the entire year at the Orlando theme parks, as many frog families hop away from home and go on vacation while school’s out for the summer. If you are one of the many families in the Frog Pond planning a trip this summer, don't worry — with the summer crowds often come longer park hours and some special events. There are lots of ways to have a magical summer vacation at Disney World your tadpoles will never froget!

Here are some tips and tricks for beating the heat and the crowds when visiting Disney World in July!

Planning for Disney World in July

Crowds at Disney World in July

There will be no avoiding the summer crowds in the month of July, with peak crowds hoppening during the week of the Fourth of July. If you're visiting the parks this month, don't despair! We visited in July in past years and had a blast — just be sure to download our free wait-time app for iPhone before you head to the parks.

We highly recommend taking a break in the afternoon and then coming back to the parks in the evenings for as long as your little ones can handle it. If your family members aren't early birds, an alternative option is to take advantage of the later extended park hours when crowd levels really drop off. If staying on-site, you can utilize Early Theme Park Entry and Extended Evening Hours to avoid peak crowds and temperatures.

We also suggest that you check the Crowd Calendar when you begin planning your trip to find the best travel dates. Then, revisit it again as you get closer to your actual trip to pick the recommended park each day of your trip to maximize your time (you'll also find park hours on the Crowd Calendar!).

Weather at Disney World in July

Blizzard Beach — Snowgies from "Frozen"

Temperatures are on the rise in July with an average high of 92, a low of 74 and high humidity and rainfall chances. Besides sunscreen, it’s a good idea to pack a few ponchos because storms can move in very quickly. But the good news is that it generally rains for only an hour or two (usually in the afternoons) and then the clouds clear up — and it cools down a bit! Check out our frogtastic guides to beat the heat and what to do on a rainy day at Disney World!

We recommend doing indoor shows and attractions in the afternoon to avoid the heat and possible afternoon showers. Consider adding a water park day to your trip as the perfect way to cool off!

Events at Disney World in July

Magic Kingdom gets into the patriotic spirit for the Fourth of July with a fireworks spectacular, “Disney's Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky." EPCOT’s American Adventure pavilion usually has special celebrations going on as well as a special fireworks finale.

While at EPCOT, be sure to enjoy either EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival through early July or EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival starting late July. Other events include Disney H2O Glow After Hours at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park!

Hi,

She ask me every time if we can go there. When she sees the commercials., lol. What hotels do you recommend? Do you think we can cover magic kingdom, studios and epcot in 4 days? Thank you for any info. Dalia

single dad here so I knew the drill. All the value and moderate resorts are wonderful. If I had to choose between the moderate I would pick the port orleans both are good , french and riverside. Riverside has a great pool and the best food court. as for as the value. pop century might be your best bet if you cant get into the newer art of animation. But I will see price things out and look for the specials. I going with my son in july and was able to find some nice deals. Enjoy if you havent already traveled.. Ricky

Hi Dalia!

One park a day is toadally do-able! We are so excited that you're making the trip! As far as where to stay, this will largely depend on your budget and the amenities you're looking for. You can see more about the resort hotels here. There are also a lot of close hotels that offer similar benefits to staying at a Disney Resort hotel (minus the free transportation) that may be worth taking a look at.

Do they rent mobility scooters at ML? If so, should I reserve one ahead of time? This grandma has to have one!

Hi Cathy,

They sure do, and Grandma Frog does not do Disney without them! You'll find them at the entrance of the park on the right hand side. Be sure to save your receipt, because your all day rental is good at any of the parks - you'll just need to return the scooter at MK, then show your receipt at your next destination (Disney Springs included) to grab another one :) They are first-come, first-served, so we recommend arriving early.

Hi,

I don't know if my last comment went through, so I'm writing a new one. My family and I are planning a 1 day trip to Disney and we don't know which park to go to. I have a 16 year old brother who isn't a big Disney fan so I want him to enjoy the trip too. Also, I have family from Norway coming in to, so I want to know the best for them. We are going August 2nd, 2018. We need help deciding either Animal Kingdom or the Magic Kingdom.

Any suggestions are helpful, thanks.

HI Trenna,

I would vote for the Magic Kingdom out of the two parks. However, I would say EPCOT is better than both of them especially if your brother isn't a D fan. Epcot has some rides as well as shows. But if your choice is between Magic Kingdom & Animal Kingdom, don't waste your money on Animal Kingdom. Took 4 kids to Animal Kingdom, ages 9, 10, 11, and they thought it was boring. Wouldn't go back, it's like an over-rated zoo. They loved Epcot, and everyone loves the Magic Kingdom. Hope you have fun!

Hi Sam,

You might find it a tad bit better, but at that point, you should go when it's the best for you. The end of June will still be crowded and pretty hot.

Hi Avi,

"Must Go" really depends on what your family is interested in seeing. We have a post that can help you decide the best theme park for your particular family's visit.

Choose two parks and then explore the differences between Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach for your water park fun!

Hello. I am looking to plan a trip to Disney from July 4-July 15 this summer with my 7 year old niece. This will be her first time, and basically my first time as I only went once at the age of 9. The flight is already booked and I will be staying off of the resort to save money, but we will have early shuttles to Epcot where we can transfer to the other parks. I am considering the 7 day park hopper plus option because it includes the Disney water parks and mini golfs (these attractions can be used 7 times on any days, and do not use the park hopper days, if I understand correctly). We plan to start the adventure on July 5th to avoid the crazy crowds on July 4th since I believe we can see fire works on other nights at Epcot and/or Magic Kingdom. Below is my tentative plan and I was wondering if anyone can give me advice on any changes I should make, if anything is too much for a day, or if more time should be spent in one park as opposed to another. I would also like advice on how hot it gets in the parks at this time of year because, to be honest, I hate heat and sweating :(

Here is the plan (any advice would be so helpful):

TUESDAY - July 4th: ARRIVAL - at hotel by 2/3 PM

WEDNESDAY - July 5th: DAY 1 AT PARKS - Magic Kingdom only - Bippity Boppity Botique (reserved for 2:25PM)

THURSDAY - July 6th: Blizzard Beach Water Park AND Winter Summerland Miniature Golf (2 plus tickets used)

FRIDAY - July 7th: DAY 2 AT PARKS - Epcot only

SATURDAY - July 8th: DAY 3 AT PARKS - Animal Kingdom only

SUNDAY - July 9th: DAY 4 AT PARKS - Hollywood studios AND Fantasia Garden's Miniature Golf (1 plus ticket used)

MONDAY - July 10th: Typhoon Lagoon Water Park only (1 plus ticket used)

TUESDAY - July 11th: DAY 5 AT PARKS - Magic Kingdom only (repeat day)

WEDNESDAY - July 12th: DAY 6 AT PARKS - Epcot only (repeat day)

THURSDAY - July 13th: Typhoon Lagoon Water Park AND Blizzard Beach Water Park (2 plus tickets used)

FRIDAY - July 14th: DAY 7 AT PARKS - go to whichever we want to repeat or finish

SATURDAY - July 15th: FLIGHT BACK HOME

*1 Plus Ticket left*

I'm a Disney fanatic. I take my 1yr, 3yr, and 4yr alone. Best place that's calm is Fort Wilderness Campsites. Take the boat from Magic Kingdom to the Fort. Kids can play on the beach while you have an amazing view of the fireworks with no crowd. Beach has fence at water so you don't have to chaze them to keep them away. You can just relax.

Second the recommendation of Fort Wilderness. We got an RV spot close to the water and just walked over to the boat to Magic Kingdom!

Hi Kim,

With Animal Kingdom opening at 8:00, you'll have plenty to time to make it to Tusker House for your 8:30. It's only a short walk.

As for leave/come back when visiting, that's really up to you. There is no ideal time.

Hi, we are planning 10 days this July. Do you think it's too long? I have a 6 and 3.5 year old. One park per day with the water park option. I know it will be hot, that is why I'm wondering whether I should only do 4-5 days?

Reply
Feb 20, 2017 at 8:40 a.m. FrogBlog Says...

Hi Cynthia,

It really depends on your family. If they can handle ten full days of theme and water parks, then it's perfect. Consider giving them a slow day every few days where you're not in a park and they can grab some sleep. Otherwise, if you know they'll get tired, then scale back on the trip.

Thinking about trying a water park for the first time in July...Don't know how I can be that close to Disney (Cocoa beach) and not go to a park!! We are worried about the heat and crowds at regular parks, so we thought water park would be better. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance!!

Hi Candace,

While the water parks are nice, if you have never been to Disney before, I would recommend visiting the theme parks. Yes, it will be hot, but there are plenty of indoor, air-conditioned rides that you can visit in the afternoons (Pirates of the Caribbean is our favorite place to cool off in the parks). You don't mention how long you will be there, but if have only a day, I would plan a visit to Magic Kingdom.

Just as a quick tip, if you don't want to spend $20 for the fan/mister. They sell spray bottles at the dollar store that have the spray at the top but the bottle can be rolled up. That is a great thing to pack for your theme park outing and it doesn't take up much space when it is not filled up. Stay cool and don't inconvenience yourself!

We'd recommend Magic Kingdom since there is a special fireworks show all week for the 4th of July. You can catch it at 9 p.m. on July 3 and 4, and 10 p.m. on July 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7.

Let us know what you think of it!
