This needs updating.

The ride attendants required me to leave my ECV in order to join the queue for every ride attraction except for Hogwarts Express. Often the parking area for ECVs was not conveniently located to the ride entrance. Then you needed to get yourself through the queue - on foot, or if you were lucky enough to find one by a courtesy wheelchair. Good luck getting up the ramps in a wheelchair on your own if you aren’t proficient using one.

It’s really frustrating as every queue we were in had space for the ECV.

The exit of many attractions is on an end of the building some distance from where the ECV is parked.

The attendants at ride entry were, with a few exceptions, not helpful in directing me where to park the ECV, obtain a courtesy wheelchair, or how to get back to where I parked.

The parks may be ADA compliant, but they are not at all friendly for individuals with mobility difficulties. There is no physical reason to not allow ECVs in the queues . . . it was a very frustrating day! Well, actually two days.

Hi Laura!

Guests would need to be able to transfer from an ECV to a standard wheelchair on their own or with the assistance of their party members.

Hi Joan!

There are some attractions that allow you to remain in a standard wheelchair — at Islands of Adventure, these include Caro-Seuss-el, The Cat in the Hat, Hogwarts Express, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and Skull Island: Reign of Kong. At Universal Studios, these include Animal Actors (show), The Bourne Stuntacular (show), Despicable Me (stationary seating only), E.T. Adventure, Hogwarts Express, Men in Black Alien Attack, Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon and Universal's Horror Make-Up Show (show). As far as health restrictions go, it may depend on the condition. Please see Universal Orlando's Guide for Rider Safety and Accessibility for more detailed information.

Are there standard wheelchairs in the parking area to get you to entrance of Universal where you can rent a motorized scooter?

FrogBlog Says...

Hi Marie!

Yes, there is a manual wheelchair rental location that's closer to the parking garages — it's in the same hub area as security. You would pay the price for the manual wheelchair there, but once you get to the park entrance, you can upgrade to a ECV rental and use what you paid for the wheelchair toward the price of the ECV.

How much walking is it from parking to gate? How far to Harry Potter area? Are wide wheelchairs available? Are they safe to leave to go inside a shop? Reservations for wide wheelchair? Thanks

Hi Jane!

It's a bit of a walk from the parking garage to either park's front gate, as you have to navigate through the security hub and CityWalk. Depends on your pace, but it usually takes about an average of 10 to 15 minutes. From the parking structures to the CityWalk entrance, there are moving walkways to help. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter sections (at both parks) are located in the back, so it would be about an additional 10 to 15 minutes of walking once inside. We don't know exact dimensions, but the ECV rentals ($65) are quite roomy, though they have a maximum weight limit of 300 pounds. The standard wheelchair rentals ($15) are only one size, though slightly larger than a typical hospital wheelchair. Both options, ECV and manual wheelchairs, are first-come, first-serve. While wheelchairs don't tend to sell out, ECVs can run out by mid-morning on a busy day, so we'd recommend arriving as early as you can. It is safe to leave your wheelchair outside of shops and attractions, though we wouldn't leave anything of value behind. If you have any additional questions, we'd recommend reaching out to Guest Relations at 407-224-4233 and they may be able to help with more specifics regarding accessibility. Another option is to rent a wide wheelchair from a third-party.

Hi James!
