Why Take a Disney Cruise From Galveston?

Cruising from Galveston is convenient for many, particularly if you live in the Midwest United States. The port hosts year-round cruising, and the city and island offer plenty for travelers to enjoy either pre- or post-cruise. You could easily spend two or three days just exploring the island attractions before setting sail!

Galveston has a rich history, welcoming guests with everything from ghost stories and pirate tales to theme parks and attractions. Affectionately known as the "Queen of the Gulf," she not only features miles and miles of sandy beach but is also home to popular attractions such as Moody Gardens theme park, Schlitterbahn water park, The Strand historical area and the carnival-style Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, inspired by early 20th-century seaside pier attractions. With so much to see and do, Galveston is a hoppin' place to start your Disney Cruise Line adventure!

If you happen to be in Galveston for its annual Dickens on The Strand event, you are in for a pre-cruise treat! Typically taking place the first weekend in December, Dickens on The Strand centers around 19th-century Victorian London holiday festivities. It features live entertainment, special events, holiday vendors, roaming characters and much more. It’s the perfect way to hop into the holidays before or after your Disney cruise!

Disney Cruise Galveston — Disney Magic Deck Party

Located just an hour south of Houston in Southeast Texas, Galveston is conveniently located near both major airports in the area:

  • William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) — 42 miles
  • George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) — 72 miles

Both airports offer shuttle services to the Port of Galveston and Galveston Island, making getting from your flights to wherever you are headed next a breeze. Shuttle services range from private cars to large buses and a variety of prices. These include:

  • Super Shuttle
  • Galveston Express
  • Galveston Limousine Service
  • GAL Shore Excursions
  • Black Lane USA
  • Galveston Flyer
  • Island Breeze Shuttle
  • Lyft
  • Uber
  • Select hotel shuttles

Both airports also have on-site car rental options.

To save some green, look for a hotel that offers a port shuttle. If you're driving, book a hotel that allows cruise parking onsite!

If you prefer to drive to the cruise terminal, there is on-site parking, which can be reserved in advance. Disney Cruise Line currently operates out of Terminal 28, which is near two economy lots, one express lot and a small parking garage. The economy lots include a free shuttle, while the express lot and parking garage are within walking distance and do not have a shuttle. The express lot is the closest to the terminal. Parking rates vary based on date and availability but are typically between $20 and $30 per night. All lots are patrolled by security.

Our Frog Family prefers to fly into the William P. Hobby Airport since it is closer to the cruise terminal. We like to arrive early and hop straight to the pier for some family fun!

A few of our frog-favorite hotels in the area include:

  • Courtyard by Marriott Galveston Island
  • The Tremont House
  • Holiday Inn Resort: Galveston on the Beach
  • Hilton Galveston Island Resort

Disney Cruises Out of Galveston — The Disney Magic

Disney Cruise Galveston - Disney Magic cruise ship docked at port

The Disney Magic calls Galveston home from November through March or April each year. The elegance of the original Disney Cruise Line ship is a perfect match for the historical charm of Galveston Island. A few of our Frog Family's favorite features (say that 10 times fast!) are the reimagined Disney's Oceaneer Club featuring Marvel Avengers Academy, Rapunzel’s Royal Table restaurant, Tangled the Musical live stage show and the AquaDunk waterslide. Plus, there are plenty of adults-only spaces for mom and dad to enjoy while the kids are off doing their favorite things!

Galveston Disney Cruise Itineraries

Disney Cruise Line offers a range of itineraries sailing from Galveston. Sailing primarily 4- and 5-night itineraries, with the occasional 7-night sailing, you can hop aboard for a long weekend cruise or enjoy a full week of relaxation as you visit ports in Mexico and the Caribbean. While you won’t typically stop at either Disney Castaway Cay or Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, you have a variety of itinerary options featuring different ports along the Caribbean coast in Mexico and Grand Cayman.

The 4-night itineraries offered aboard the Disney Magic feature two days at sea and one day in Progreso, Mexico. This itinerary is great for cruisers who have a limited amount of time or are looking for a short escape paired with time spent in Galveston and Houston. There is a wide variety of Port Adventures in Progreso, and some of our favorites are A Dino Quest (because who hasn’t dreamed of being a paleontologist?), Alebrije Painting Workshop and Beach, inspired by Disney Pixar's feature film "Coco," visiting the Chichen Itza Mayan Ruins and the Family Beach Day.

On the 5-night sailing, a stop at Cozumel, Mexico, is added in addition to Progreso and two days at sea. Cozumel has loads of frogtastic Port Adventure options, including accessible Port Adventures for individuals in wheelchairs or with mobility challenges. A few of our favorite Port Adventures in Cozumel are the All-Inclusive Beach Resort Day, Cozumel Beach Break for Families, Atlantis Submarine Adventure, Dolphin and Manatee Encounter and the Beach BBQ, Catamaran Sail and Reef Snorkeling with Rays and Sharks.

Most seven-night cruises aboard the Magic sail a Bahamian itinerary, with one sailing a Western Caribbean itinerary. These sailings are perfect for the froggy family that enjoys time spent on the ship exploring, taking in the shows, participating in crafts and games and hanging out at the pool. On the Bahamian sailing, enjoy four days at sea, and port days in Nassau, Bahamas and Disney Castaway Cay. The perfect itinerary for relaxing at the beach and soaking up the sun on the pool deck.

On the Western Caribbean sailing, you'll have three sea days and port visits to Cozumel, George Town, Grand Cayman and Progreso. In port, we love enjoying a beach day on Cozumel and then participating in a more adventurous Port Adventure on Grand Cayman. A visit to Stingray City on Grand Cayman is a highlight every time we visit. We also love the Nautilus Undersea Tour.

Disney Cruise Galveston — Character buoys

Exciting news! For the first time ever, Marvel Day at Sea will be held on the Disney Magic out of Galveston from mid-January through early March 2026.

In April 2026, there is a 14-night Panama Canal repositioning cruise to San Diego. From there, the Disney Magic has a 4-night Pacific Coast itinerary repositioning in Vancouver, B.C. Once settled in Vancouver, the Magic will offer 5 and 7-night Alaska cruises through the beginning of September 2026.

Disney Very Merrytime Cruises out of Galveston

For a festive holiday at sea, book a Very Merrytime sailing in November or December! The Disney Magic shines with garlands, lights, a giant tree and a gingerbread display. Very Merrytime Cruises feature loads of holiday fun onboard, including:

Hi Sylvia!

You can view all current 2026 sailings here. You can filter by Departure Port (Galveston) and Sailing Dates to narrow down your search. Passports are not required for cruises that start and end in a U.S. port, but you will need a birth certificate and a government-issued Real Photo ID.
