Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights is the place to be during spooky season. Both Universal Studios Florida and Universal Studios Hollywood transform into scream-filled playgrounds packed with haunted houses, scare zones, creepy shows and deliciously sinister snacks. Maybe you're a seasoned HHN Orlando professional wondering if HHN Hollywood is worth checking out (or vice versa). Or maybe you've never been to either and are deciding between the two. Either way, if you’re planning a trip and not sure which coast to haunt this year, we’ve got you covered. Here's a side-by-side comparison of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood and Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida.

The Vibe: Different Kinds of Scary
Universal Studios Hollywood
On the West Coast, Halloween Horror Nights brings classic movie horror to life. The event takes place on real working film sets, and you can feel the history in the air. It's gritty, raw and intense. The scares tend to come fast, with narrow walkways, shadowy sets and plenty of surprise encounters. Plus, there's the Terror Tram, a Hollywood-exclusive experience that takes you deep into the studio backlot for scares on foot.
Universal Studios Florida
Over on the East Coast, Halloween Horror Nights takes a different approach. It's bigger, more spread out and full of story-driven frights. The event has a theatrical flair, with original haunted house concepts and elaborate storytelling woven into everything from the houses to the scare zones. It's toadally over-the-top (in the best way).
Haunted Houses: Two Styles of Terror
Both parks feature highly themed haunted houses, packed with detail, scares and fan-favorite IPs from slasher icons to creepy creatures and the occasional otherworldly twist.
Universal Studios Hollywood often leans into fast-paced scares with lots of energy and a more compact layout. The houses feel intense, and you'll likely find yourself face-to-face with scare actors before you even realize what's happening.
Universal Studios Florida typically features more houses (usually 10 compared to Hollywood's 8), and they tend to focus on atmosphere and story. The scenic design is next-level, and there's often a beginning, middle and terrifying end to each walkthrough.
Let's take a look at the houses you can expect for the 2025 season:
Shared Houses (both coasts)
- Jason Universe — Navigate the creepy campgrounds, decaying lodge and woods stalked by Jason Voorhees from the "Friday the 13th" franchise.
- Fallout — Enter Vault 33 and dodge radroaches and raiders in a post-apocalyptic hellscape inspired by the "Fallout" video game and Prime Video TV show. You'll find different scenes and different characters on each coast!
- Terrifier — You know him, you love him. Art the Clown makes his Horror Nights debut in what's set to be the most gruesome and gory haunted house to date. This house is very different coast to coast. In Orlando, you'll find a dry path and a wet path. And the wet path will leave you completely and totally soaked. In Hollywood, there is only one path. And although you won't get quite as drenched as on the east coast, there is no dry option and will most definitely get wet. The ending scenes are also different, each one a new concept, not from the films.
- Five Nights at Freddy's — Murderous animatronics run rampant in an abandoned pizzeria. Prepare to be hunted by Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy.
- WWE Presents: The Horrors of The Wyatt Sicks — Welcome to the twisted nightmares of the WWE, where Uncle Howdy and his eerie crew stalk and terrorize anyone brave enough to enter.
Universal Studios Hollywood Exclusive Originals
- Monstruos 3 — Three terrifying Latin American ghosts are out for blood.
- Scarecrow (Music by SLASH) — These terrifying watchers have become the hunters in an abandoned farmland, with an original score by SLASH.
- Poltergeist — The classic horror film is making its way out of the screen and into Hollywood. Although this is not an original concept from the Horror Nights team, it is exclusive to Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood this year.
Universal Studios Florida Exclusive Originals
- Grave of Flesh — Funeral-goers become prey in an underworld cemetery.
- Dolls: Let's Play Dead — Mutilated dolls seek their revenge.
- Hatchet and Chains: Demon Bounty Hunters — Hatchet and Chains team up to hunt lava demons from Hell's Well before they possess souls and melt everything in sight.
- El Artista: A Spanish Haunting — In 19th-century Spain, artist Sergio Navarro seeks inspiration at La Casa Creación, but instead finds vengeful spirits in a cursed conservatory and haunted paintings that open portals to unleash terror.
- Gálkn: Monsters of the North — A horde of bloodthirsty monsters from the fjords has arrived to terrorize the townsfolk.

Terror Tram
The Terror Tram is a Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights exclusive you'll only find in Hollywood. And it's not your typical studio tour. You'll board a studio tram and roll through the fog‑shrouded backlot where legendary sets get overrun by monsters and slashers.
In 2025, the theme is Terror Tram: Enter the Blumhouse. Expect to see M3GAN, the Grabber, characters from the Purge and more as you venture through the outdoor terrors.
Walk through real, working backlot sets, including the wreckage from "War of the Worlds" and the Bates Motel. Just when you think you're safe, scare actors burst from the shadows, leaving your heart racing by the time you hit the next scene. It's part haunted house, part Hollywood history, and totally unfrogettable.
Scare Zones: Roaming Terrors
Universal Studios Hollywood has smaller scare zones, but they are intense. Expect thick fog, flashing lights and tight quarters where you might bump into something you really wish you hadn't.
At Universal Studios Florida, scare zones are a huge part of the experience. As you walk between houses, you'll pass through multiple themed zones full of roaming scare actors, props and eerie soundscapes.
Here are the 2025 Orlando scare zones:
- The Origins of Horror — Once you enter the decaying conservatory, you'll face monstrous crows, towering gargoyles and chainsaw-wielding artists in a gothic nightmare tribute to Halloween Horror Nights 34.
- Masquerade: Dance with Death — Dance into a deadly masquerade where bloodthirsty vampires hide behind elegant masks, the music lures you in and your next dance could be your last.
- The Cat Lady of Crooked Lane — On Halloween night, your trick-or-treat path takes a creepy turn as glowing feline eyes follow you. Once you knock, you're drawn into a colony of sinister kitties with a few tricks of their own.
- Mutations: Toxic Twenties — A roaring '20s scare zone where a radioactive BuzzCon crash has mutated a mobster hideout into a buzzing, toxic nightmare.
Here are the 2025 Hollywood scare zones:
- Chainsaw Clownz– Beware a troop of chainsaw killers!
- Murder of Crowz – Ever thought crows were a little ominous? Well, they are terrifying when you enter their territory at Halloween Horror Nights! A murder of giant crows might just peck your bones clean as you navigate their scare zone.
- Carnival of Carnage – This maniacal funhouse is packed with deranged clowns everywhere you turn.
- Noche de Brujas – Brave this dimly lit street filled with Latin American witches and nightmares. They twirl and dance in beautiful dresses, but be careful not to get too close. Their beauty fades as they cast spells on you.
Additionally, this year, brand-new street experiences have been announced in Florida. Turn back the clock and mingle with zombie carhops at Mel's Die-In Zombies and "dance 'til you're dead" at Club Horror, featuring undead DJs.
And in Hollywood, an extra surprise scare zone has been added! Just as you walk under the Studio Tour sign, you'll want to keep your wits about you. Clever creatures use their giant clown display on the right side to distract you from their hiding on the left side.
On both coasts, you'll find Art the Clown roaming the parks... everywhere. In Hollywood you'll find him in the Lower Lot, in the Upper Lot, in the Little Cocina, on your way to haunted houses. Just about everywhere you go. Likewise in Orlando, you might see the Terrifier while you're eating, while you're shopping and everywhere (and anywhere) else.
Death Eaters
On both coasts, there have been chances to come face to face with the notorious Death Eaters from the "Harry Potter" books and movies. In the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, you'll catch them skulking out of Knockturn Alley and all through Diagon Alley. Stick around, if you dare, and catch their opening and closing performances on the Carkitt Market stage.
In the past, Death Eaters lit up the Hogwarts Castle with the Dark Mark while tormenting guests in Hogsmeade Village in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Hollywood. Although the Death Eaters are not back in 2025, you'll find the castle lit up with eerie coloring and fun, dark projections.
Live Shows and Stage Spectacles
When the haunted houses and scare zones have you running for your life, the shows offer a thrilling break from the chaos with some cinematic flair.
Universal Studios Hollywood
The Purge: Dangerous Waters — Back by popular demand, this stunt-infused spectacle takes place in the iconic WaterWorld arena. Expect fire jumps, explosions, jet-skis and an original storyline within the Purge universe. It's high-octane, chaotic and totally immersive.
"Chainsaw Man: The Chaos" is making its Hollywood debut at Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights inside the DreamWorks Theatre in 2025. This all-new horror anime short, brought over from Universal Studios Japan, is inspired by the hit manga and anime series. The film follows Denji and the Devil Hunters as they face off against the Halloween Horror Nights Devil and his zombie horde. It’s a wild clash of chaos, screams and gore that only the bravest guests will endure.
Universal Studios Florida
Nightmare Fuel is back in Orlando, and this time it's themed "Circus of Decay." A once-vibrant circus has now become an unending nightmare. This full-scale stage show features dancers, fire performers and pyrotechnics, aerialists and illusions.
New for 2025, Orlando premieres "Haunt-O-Phonic: A Ghoulish Journey." This ghost story is rising from its watery grave to the Universal Studios lagoon. It features towering water screens and eerie music.
We've been surprised in years past by smaller pop-up acts and roaming entertainment, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled!
Food, Drinks & Merch: Halloween with a Side of Snacks
Both events offer limited-time food and drinks themed to the season. From blood bag cocktails to spicy bites and monstrous desserts, the eats are half the fun! And each park has event and house-specific merchandise available.
Universal Studios Hollywood offers its own selection of event snacks and themed bars, especially near scare zones and house entrances. It's more of a grab-and-go vibe, perfect for keeping your energy up between screams. You can check out all the offerings in our HHN Hollywood foodie guide.
Universal Studios Florida goes big with multiple food booths, seasonal sips and the ever-popular Tribute Store, where the spooky vibes meet souvenir shopping. The store is themed each year and is practically a mini haunted house of its own. And of course, we have a whole HHN Orlando foodie guide as well.
Plus, over in Universal CityWalk, Red Coconut Club transforms annually into Dead Coconut Club (on select nights) where the party continues into the dead of night. Expect frightening photo ops, terrifying tunes and deviously delicious drinks!

Universal Studios Florida
There's more ground to cover and more houses to explore. Multi-night tickets and Express Passes can be great options for getting the full experience without feeling rushed. And just like for its sister event, you can read through our Orlando Early Entry guide, Tips and Tricks to Maximize Your Time, Scaredy-Frog's guide and even our HHN Orlando with Teens and Tweens guide.
Not even your hotel is safe from the things that go bump in the night. Over at select Universal Orlando Resort hotels, you'll find fearsome photo ops and even themed bars with specialty sinister cocktails!
Whether you're in it for the lore, the jump scares or the snacks, Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights delivers an unfrogettable night of terror on both coasts.
