FastPass+ is one of those key pieces of information! We have been answering many questions about FastPass+ since its debut in 2014 — and we're still going! This is a compilation of answers to customers' most frequently asked questions about FastPass+.

To the unfamiliar, FastPass+ may seem overwhelming. This service simply allows guests to pre-book rides and entertainment so that they skip the regular lines. While pre-booking rides and entertainment — in some cases, up to 60 days in advance of your trip — sounds complicated, it doesn't have to be. Using FastPass+ is one of the best ways to experience the most in-demand rides with little to no wait! We are answering these Disney FastPass+ FAQs to make it as easy as possible. What is FastPass+?

FastPass+ is Disney's reservation system that allows guests to book advance reservations for experiences and attractions in the park. Guests staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels can make FastPass+ reservations up to 60 days in advance of check-in for their entire length of stay. Now through the end of 2020, guests staying at select hotels (including in the Disney Springs area) also get this benefit. These are:

Guests staying off-site can make reservations up to 30 days in advance of each day of their theme park visit. (Psst! You can now book your Orlando hotel with us at a discount!)

Is FastPass+ free?

Yes, it is free for everyone visiting the parks who has valid admission.

What are MagicBands?

Disney FastPass plus FAQs - MagicBands

MagicBands are rubber bracelets that contain an embedded RFID (radio frequency identification) chip and function similarly to regular RFID park tickets. They both offer touch-and-go functionality at the park entrances, at FastPass+ attraction queues and with PhotoPass photographers. The bracelets are more practical since you don't have to fumble in your pocket or backpack for tickets every time you enter a park or use FastPass+. Just make sure the Mickey head on the bracelet, which contains the RFID chip, touches the Mickey head RFID reader! MagicBands offer additional (optional) functionality if you are a resort guest: They serve as your room key (talk about pixie dust!). You also can associate a credit card with the band so that you can touch to pay for purchases at the resort after you have entered your pin. Non-resort guests who purchase MagicBands cannot add credit card functionality to their bands.

FastPass+ FAQs - Expedition Everest Queue Interaction

MagicBands offer additional functionality for all guests who wear them in the parks. First, your ride photos and video are often automagically associated with your My Disney Experience account, such as Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Tower of Terror. For other attractions, such as Expedition Everest or Splash Mountain, you'll need to touch your MagicBand to the RFID readers at the ride exit's photo area to associate your photos with your account. Second, Disney offers personalization in queues and on rides for those wearing their bands. At Expedition Everest, for example, you might see your name on one of the Himalayan advertisements before you ride. There is more personalization at it's a small world and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster.

Do I need a MagicBand?

No, physical tickets offer the same functionality as MagicBands. But you may find that MagicBands are more convenient for entering the parks and FastPass+ queues and having photos taken by PhotoPass photographers since you don't have to search in a backpack or pocket for tickets. You also get all of the benefits mentioned above!

How do I get a MagicBand?

FastPass+ MagicBands - Kiosk

If you are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, all members of your party will be given MagicBands free of charge. Depending on how far in advance you book your resort stay, you will have the option of choosing the colors of your bands and having them shipped to you (not available in all countries). These will be personalized with each party member's name, and you can also choose to upgrade to certain themes for a minimal charge. Your MagicBand serves as your room key and can be used to make purchases at the resort and in the parks during your hotel stay. Guests using Disney's Magical Express transportation will also use them at check-in, so you shouldn't put them in your checked baggage if you are flying to Orlando.

If you are not staying at a resort, you have the option of purchasing the bands starting at $14.99 plus tax in the park or online. You no longer have to link your MagicBand in the park, so you can purchase bands as gifts or to use later.

How far in advance can I make a FastPass+ reservation? 

Disney has two windows of opportunity for guests to book FastPass+ reservations. Guests staying at a Disney Resort hotel can book FastPass+ tickets 60 days before their check-in date and book for the entire length of stay. Non-resort guests have a 30-day booking window.

It really helps to have your park plans in place before that window hits, and you'll need to have already purchased tickets. You'll need to decide which day you will visit each park. It also helps to do a little research so you can book the most popular experiences and rides, or those most important to your family. Keep in mind that you may only reserve three FastPass+ attractions per day in advance. You can make additional FastPass+ reservations in the parks after you've used your first three (or the return times have passed). 

On the day your booking window opens, you'll be able to book FastPass+ reservations starting at 7 a.m. EST. So, if you're on the West Coast and want to book right away, you'll need to be up and ready at 4 a.m. (Hint: Grab your coffee or caffeinated beverage of choice before your booking window opens!) It isn't toadally necessary to book right when your window opens unless your trip is during a very busy time (such as the holidays), you're not staying on-site and/or you want to secure reservations for a very in-demand FastPass+ attraction (such as Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, Avatar Flight of Passage or Slinky Dog Dash). 

If you're staying at a Disney World Resort hotel, you can make your FastPass+ selections from your first day of check-in for your entire length of stay (up to 14 days) with valid park admission. If your stay is longer than two weeks, you can make FastPass+ reservations for up to 14 days. Note that the 30-day window does not offer this option. You must book each day. We definitely recommend staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel during your visit to take advantage of that window!

How do I make FastPass+ reservations?

When you have your tickets, you will need to create an account on Disney World's My Disney Experience website in order to make FastPass+ reservations. To make reservations for friends and family, you will need to add their name (such as for a child) or send an email invitation to connect through a Disney account. Everyone whom you wish to make FastPass+ reservations for must have valid tickets linked to their account. Once you and your party members' accounts are linked, you then need to link your tickets. While the process is fairly straightforward, we have found it is easier to use the app since you can actually scan your ticket number rather than having to key it in manually. For those of you who are close to your FastPass+ booking window, once your order has been processed, you can contact our customer service to obtain your ticket number to link your tickets in My Disney Experience.

Once your tickets are linked, you will be walked through the process of making FastPass+ reservations. Once online, you can book your three daily reservations, one at a time. You also get to see all of the available time slots within the morning, afternoon or evening. This is a big plus that makes it easier for guests to book separate reservations for their party members. For example, while Tad and I ride Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, Mommy Frog and Lily split and use a FastPass+ for Toy Story Mania! If your family or group plan to make any of the same FastPass+ reservations, we recommend you make these first.

Can I still make advance FastPass+ reservations if I plan to purchase a MagicBand later?

Yes. If you decide to purchase a MagicBand later, you can still make FastPass+ reservations in advance and those selections will be stored with your My Disney Experience profile and linked with your ticket and MagicBand. Your tickets will continue to function even if you use a MagicBand.

How many reservations can I make?

FastPass+ FAQs - Epcot FP+ Kiosks

Guests can make three advance reservations for rides and experiences per day via the My Disney Experience website, the app or the in-park kiosks. Those three reservations must be made for use in one park only. Note that at EpcotDisney's Hollywood Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom, a tiered structure is in place for the most in-demand attractions. Guests can make only one selection from the Tier 1 attractions and entertainment and two selections from the Tier 2 list at those parks. You can make additional FastPass+ reservations after you've used your first three (or the return times have passed) in the park using the app or an in-park kioskMagic Kingdom does not have a FastPass+ tiered system, but the most in-demand rides, such as Space Mountain and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, get booked quickly.

How do I use FastPass+ in the park?

When you're ready to use your FastPass+ reservation in the park, head to the attraction or entertainment experience during your allotted time. Look for the FastPass+ queue at the attraction and touch your ticket or MagicBand to the Mickey RFID reader for entry. You may be asked to scan your MagicBand or ticket a second time as you move further up the queue.

Just three reservations per day?

As mentioned above, after using your first three reservations in the park, you can obtain more. This can be at any park, and it can be at any attraction (even if you've already booked FastPass+ for Tier 1 attractions at Disney's Hollywood Studios, Epcot or Disney's Animal Kingdom). Once you have used that FastPass+ selection or the window has passed, you are free to make another selection. And so on, and so on.

Booking additional FastPass+ reservations can be done using the My Disney Experience app. (Just make sure to update to the latest version of the app.) One important note is that you no longer need to physically be present in the park you wish to make reservations for. This is a big plus for park hoppers! So you could be in Epcot, but make your reservation for Magic Kingdom if you have park hoppers or are an annual passholder.

You can also use the in-park kiosks to make reservations. If you do use a kiosk, know that not not everyone in the party must be present to add the FP+ selection as long as you are all connected using My Disney Experience.

What if I am late/need to modify my reservations?

If you are late by a few minutes on your slotted time for an attraction, you should still be allowed to enter the attraction. If you are going to be more than a few minutes late, you should re-book the experience for a later time. You can modify reservations using the website, app or in-park kiosks.

Does everyone in our friends/family account need to complete all three FastPass+ reservations for the day before we can reserve a fourth?

The FastPass+ reservations are tied to an individual ticket. If someone in your group only uses one FastPass+, that doesn't affect you from getting your fourth after your other three have been used (but it will affect them!).

Which rides and attractions should I use FastPass+ for?

This is a great question! Your "best" choices toadally depend on individual family preferences (and availability, of course). I have annual passes this year, I have one trip booked in August and another separate trip in October. When I go into my fast passes it says I have met the allotment for fast passes, will it allow me to book 60 days from my October trip if it says my allotment is met?

Absolutely! You can toad-ally book a FastPass+ for Space Mountain on different days, even two days in a row! You just can't book two FastPass+ reservations for the same ride on the same day.

My family all have Disney 14 Days Ultimate card with Fastpass+, we start our holiday on the 15th August 2018, I understand about booking 30 days in advance because we are not on resort.

My question is when can we register the cards online? do we have to wait until 30 days before? or can I register them now?

I didn't see this question proposed so forgive me if it was. My question is when I have a reservation for a popular ride, say like Pandora, and that reservation is at 6:30pm, is it possible there is a line just to check in for the fast pass and if so does it get long? I guess should we start checking an hour before our fastpass time just to see if we need to get in some crazy line then, just to check in on time? Any advice there?

No worries! On some rare occasions, FastPass+ queues will get filled up and have maybe up to a 30 minute wait ... we've only had this happen a couple times on our many trips. For a popular ride like Flight of Passage, you're looking at about a 10-15 minute wait beyond the FastPass+ checkpoint. You do not need to worry about much of a line gathering here, as long as you arrive within your scheduled window.

I'm planning on staying onsite at a Disney hotel for some of the days and offsite for some of the days in my vacation. Some of the days I'll be visiting a Disney park will be a few days before I'm at the Disney hotel, some will be during my stay at the hotel, and one of them will be a few days after (yea its a long vacation, but I can't do the whole thing in a Disney hotel).

How does the 60 day/30 day window work with this setup? Will it be open for all the days from my check-in day to the Disney hotel or is the 60 day window only for the check in/out day?

We toad-ally understand not being able to stay at a Disney hotel for your whole trip. You will be able to book FastPass+ reservations 60 days in advance for the days you'll be at the hotel, and 30 days ahead otherwise. We recommend hopping on the high-demand rides (like those in Toy Story Land and Pandora!) when you have the 60-day window.

I have tried for Pandora Fastpass+ tickets today at 12.00 British time which is when they open and there were non left. Do they allocate them to the WDW resort guests first who can book 60 days in advance?

My husband and I are taking our children and grandchildren to Disneyworld in July. We plan on purchasing 2 adult 3 day Hopper tickets and 3 adult and 2 children's 3 day Magic Your Way tickets. We will not be staying at a Disney Resort, so I know that we can make 3 FastPass reservations per day 30 days in advance. The 7 of us will not always be together during the 3 days we are at the parks (our daughter and son-in-law will be at different parks using the Hopper) My question is once we have used our 3 FastPass reservations and want to make 3 more, am I the only one who can do that since the tickets will be linked to my Disney account, or can the other family members somehow be linked to the account so they can make their own FastPass reservations from wherever they are in the park or if they are in a different park? Thank you for your help.

Our group is coming to Disney World in November. Some of us are arriving early and debating on if we should stay on property so that we can book fast passes in the 60 day window for everyone in our group. However most of our group and the times we visit the parks will not happen while we are staying on property. Can we still do the 60 day booking for fast passes if our park days are after we have left the Disney hotel?

Unfortunately, the 60 day booking window is only valid for days you'll be staying at an on-site Disney hotel. For the days you aren't staying at an on-site hotel, you'll have to wait for the 30 day window!

Hi, we are only doing one day at Magic Kingdom so have purchased magic your way tickets for our group. I was wondering whether if I select fastpasses for a particular day, if we absolutely have to then go on that day? As in, are the tickets then booked for that day? Or if our plans change then we can use the tickets on another day and just cancel and rebook the fastpasses?

If we can only stay at a WDW resort for the first part of our trip (2 days) and then switch to off-property hotel (3 days) , can I still get the fast past plus at 60 days out for the ENTIRE 6 day ticket (provided I have a 5 day ticket)? Or will I only get 60 day fast paste + access for the days I stay at a WDW hotel? Thanks!

You'll only be able to reserve FastPass+ 60 days out from when you'll be staying at the Disney World hotel. For the days you won't be staying in the hotel, you can reserve FastPass+ 30 days out!

Okay Thanks. I just read some old posts here that state the fast pass is linked to the tickets and not the hotel stays, so that the 60 day access would apply even though staying offsite second half of trip. Is that not the case anymore? When did that change? thanks.

You'll only be able to add FastPass+ reservations 60 days out from when you'll be staying at the hotel. So any day you're not registered for an on-site hotel is not valid for the 60-day window. You'll be able to book FastPass+ reservations 30 days out from those days instead!

We're huge fans of MagicBands, as they're much more convenient than digging around in your purse for card passes whenever needed. When Lily was too little to wear her own, I simply wore hers on my wrist as well! That would be my recommendation.

We will be going to Hollywood Studios. We have only booked two Fast Passes for that day, they are Aerosmith and Tower of Terror. Because we have only booked two Fast passes, can we book another Tier 1 Fast Pass as soon as Aerosmith is finished?

Unfortunately not. You must both make AND use all three of your FastPass+ reservations (1 Tier One, 2 Tier Two) before booking another Tier One.

We will be making our Fastpass choices in May for our June trip...one question I have though...for the higher demand rides like Flight of Passage...would it be better to try to get Fastpassses for two members of our party instead of all Four of us at once? I'm just wondering if those would be easier to actually snag?

Hi Chad!

We typically don't recommend doing this, as splitting the group can complicate things. What if only 2 of you are able to get a FastPass+, or what if they're at completely different times? It can't hurt to try, but we'd recommend going for all 4 at once, if possible.

Your comments about who can reserve FastPasses 60 days before their visit are not totally accurate.

We will be staying at the Dolphin hotel in May. Lots of phone calls to Disney before booking confirmed the 60 day perk. However, at 60 days, we tried to book our FastPasses through MyDisneyExperience, but were declined. A phone call confirmed that we were not staying at a Disney property and were therefore not allowed to book FastPasses earlier than 30 days out. Naturally, we missed out on the most popular rides - what a disappointment!!!

We're so sorry you had this experience. We just checked the website and called to confirm, and staying at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels definitely grants you access to booking FastPass+ reservations 60 days in advance. We recommend calling Disney guest services at 407-939-6104 to explain your situation. It sounds like someone made a mistake!

I always go to Disney in Sept to try and beat some of the crowds. This year I am checking in my Disney hotel on a Monday & going to AK Thursday. Do you think flight of passage fp will be out Monday at 7 am ET since a lot if people check in in a weekend??

Hello!

We are looking at returning to Orlando for 2 weeks in August 2019 however, the first week we will be staying on international drive but are booking AOA resort at Disney though Disney direct. My question is...we are booking a combined 14 day ticket deal for Disney and Universal but may want to go across to Disney during the first week of our trip (while on international drive) would I be able to link my paper Disney tickets to the accommodation booking in the 2nd week but still be able to enter the park during the first week if we wanted to without causing any issues to the My Disney Experience app?

You should still be able to link the tickets and go during the first week, but you won't be able to book FastPass+ reservations 60 days out until your actual stay at Art of Animation. You can still book FastPass+ 30 days out, though. Does this make sense?

I’ll do my best to explain my scenario! Have offsite resort for a week starting 23 June. Have the 5 day military park hopper passes good until December. Plans changed and arriving 22 June. If we decide to stay in WDW resort for the one night (22 June) and then check in our offsite resort will we be able to book all of our 5 day hopper fast passes 60 days out no matter when we go to the parks? Or can we only book 60 days out for days in the resort?

I am going to Epcot in 59 days. Yesterday, I booked a Soarin' fastpass for 9:05 a.m. on my Disney experience app, but that was it for that particular park. My question is.....when I get to Epcot and use the fastpass will I be able to get another fastpass for tier 1? I only like the rides soarin' and test track, so for most of the day I just visit the pavilions. Thanks in advance!

Hi Mike!

Unfortunately, that is not the case. You must use all three of your FastPass+ reservations (1 tier one, 2 tier two) in order to book another tier one the day of. You can always do a couple quick and easy tier two rides like Journey into Imagination or Spaceship Earth in order to make room for Test Track!

There is an error in this post that you might want to correct. When you mention FP+ reservations begin at 7am EST and you said that means 3am on the west coast, it would actually be 4am for the west coast. Not to confuse anyone or they’d potentially be up an hour too early.

Hi! My husband and I have separate but linked My Disney Experience accounts. In reserving our Fast Passes, we are thinking of logging in to our separate accounts at the day of our 60-day mark. So basically, he will make reservations for AK and EPCOT while I will make the FP reservations at MK and Hollywood Studios. Is it possible to book FP this way??? Or ONLY ONE from the same party can book FP at the same time? Thanks!

You can both book FastPass+ experiences at the same time, as long as they are on separate days. And remember, you can only book FastPass+ reservations in advance at one park per day!

My husband and I are arriving on a sunday with our youngest and grandma. Our teenager and friend will be arriving on monday night. We are booked in a family suite that will fit all of us but we went ahead and booked a separate room for the teens starting tuesday. Can I book their fast passes when I book mine at 60 days or do I have to wait for their first day in the park (and separate room reservation) at 60 +2? I want us to have at least a couple of the same reservations since they are only doing 2 disney days with us (Tuesday and wednesday) and then 2 universal/ HP days (Thursday and Friday) by themselves. Should I see if I can add them to our family suite room starting sunday even if they will not be there yet?

If they are on the reservation for the family suite, then you can definitely go ahead and reserve FastPass+ for them 60 days out. We would do this so that you can make sure you get the FastPass+ reservations you want with them!

You will absolutely be able to make FastPass+ reservations 30 days in advance. You should have received a ticket code in your confirmation e-mail that you can link to your MyDisneyExperience app to make reservations. You will then receive a linked physical card upon arrival.

This depends on Animal Kingdom's hours. If the park closes at 9 p.m., the last FastPass+ slot will be from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Hope this helps!

Hello! I live in Virginia and will be purchasing discounted tickets through my work for my husband and I as well as Florida resident passes for my parents (who own a condo in Florida). Three questions: 1. Once I have an electronic version of the non Florida resident tickets, can I scan that into the fast pass app to make fast pass reservations or do I need a physical ticket or a ticket sold directly from WDW to make fast pass reservations? 2. My parents will be getting their Florida resident passes sent to their condo but will have to provide proof that they own their condo since they don’t primarily live in Florida, but can fast passes still be reserved with these tickets before we go to the Orlando ticket center to confirm their tickets or do we have to wait to get confirmation from the ticket center when we go to WDW before we can make fastpasses? 3. For my parents, I am buying two tickets under my moms name (her name is on the florida condo electric bill) and she is showing that bill to the ticket office to show she is a Florida resident, will my dad who lives at the same address also have to show a separate bill to show he also owns the condo in Florida? (Sorry just don’t want to buy tickets and have them be wasted from not bringing the right paperwork) Thank you so much!

I was wondering if it makes sense to book only 1 FP in advance and after using it, start booking new FPs online.

If you book all 3 FPs in advance, you have to consider the 1 hour reservation-window. With instant FPs you can avoid this latency.

From my experience you can get same-day FPs in MK for nearly all attractions except 7Dwarfes.

Absolutely! Your FastPass+ experiences are never set in stone. If you decide the day of to go to Epcot instead of Magic Kingdom, you can go ahead and switch your FastPass+ reservations. Just note that you can only make reservations for one park at a time, so you can't book one experience at MK and two at Epcot. Make sense?

It definitely is possible to get in early and use all 3 before lunch. Our recommendations depends on what parks you're visiting, the day and if you're park hopping. Usually, wait times are at a minimum right when the park opens, so we suggest hitting up as many rides as you can and saving FastPass+ for peak times. Check out our Disney World park plans!

Shows are the same as rides when it comes to the rules of FastPass+. That is the one downside to using it for a nighttime experience - you can't reload until that one has been used!

Hi! I feel like this may have already been answered in the comments, but I want to make sure my situation is the same. I will be checking into the Polynesian on the 8th and checking out on the 9th. On the 9th, after I have checked out, I will be headed to the parks for that day and another 3 days after (while no longer staying at a Disney resort). I will also be purchasing the military tickets, however I’m also not sure when you’re allowed to purchase them or when you can activate them since they’re military. So, when can I start adding my FastPasses? 60 days before I check in at Poly? Or will I have to wait til 30? Does the military ticket have any effect on when I can do anything? Thanks. Hope this made sense.

As long as you are staying at a Disney resort, you will be able to book FastPass+ reservations 60 days in advance - simply link the tickets to your hotel reservation in the MyDisneyExperience app. Military tickets can be purchased on base and activated at Disney World!
