Why Stay at a Universal Orlando Resort Hotel

Inside This Post

It's safe to say we are huge fans of staying on property at our favorite theme park resorts, and Universal Orlando Resort is certainly no exception. All of the 11 Universal Orlando hotels have incredible theming, dining, recreation and pools ... you know how we frogs feel about pools. Of course, the Universal hotels also offer terrific park benefits for Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure, Universal Epic Universe and Universal Volcano Bay. You don't have to stay far from the action, as all of the hotels are close to the theme parks and Universal CityWalk Orlando. And even better, we can help save you a little green on your vacation with our discounts on theme park tickets! You can now get exclusive savings on Universal Orlando Resort Vacation Packages provided by Undercover Tourist. Let's leap into the Universal Orlando hotels and their incredible benefits, which will greatly help to maximize your time during your park day!

FAQs

  • Is there any benefit to staying at a Universal hotel? Yes! Guests staying at any Universal Orlando hotel receive Early Park Admission (also valid at Epic Universe) and convenient transportation options to the theme parks, among other benefits. Those staying at select Signature hotels also receive Express Unlimited for the duration of their stay.
  • Do I have to check in before I go to the parks if I want to take advantage of Early Park Admission or Express Unlimited? For both Early Park Admission and Express Unlimited, your room key serves as your pass, so if you want to hop into the parks on check-in day, you'll want to stop by the hotel to check in, get your room key (even if your room isn't ready) and drop off your luggage with the bell desk.
  • How can I save on my Universal Orlando hotel stay? Undercover Tourist offers exclusive savings on Universal ticket + hotel vacation packages.
  • Are the Universal Orlando hotels walking distance to the parks? This depends on the hotel, but we have a full infographic below to show you exactly which hotels are closest to which theme parks at Universal Orlando Resort.
  • Are there any hotels near Epic Universe? Yes! In 2025, Universal opened three brand-new hotels close to the all-new Universal Epic Universe: Universal Stella Nova Resort, Universal Terra Luna Resort and Universal Helios Grand Resort (which is located IN Epic Universe, with its own entrance into the park).

Top Benefits of Staying at Universal Orlando Hotels

1. Location, Location, Location!

Loews Royal Pacific Resort Courtyard Fountain

Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Universal Hard Rock HotelLoews Royal Pacific ResortLoews Sapphire FallsUniversal Aventura Hotel and Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort are all located on Universal Orlando property. Meanwhile, Universal Endless Summer – Surfside Inn & Suites and Universal Endless Summer Resort – Dockside Inn and Suites are located just on the opposite side of Interstate 4, only a quick shuttle ride away. Universal Stella Nova Resort and Universal Terra Luna Resort are located adjacent to the new Universal Epic Universe theme park. Universal Helios Grand Hotel is located inside Universal Epic Universe.

The rest of the Universal Orlando hotels are all within walking distance of each other, the Universal Orlando theme parks and Universal CityWalk. On my last visit, I jog-hopped to each one of them for a bit of exercise. The proximity to other major Orlando attractions and the International Drive area is another Universal Orlando hotel benefit.

In terms of proximity to the theme parks, the Hard Rock Hotel is the closest to Universal Studios Florida, and Loews Royal Pacific Resort is closest to Universal Islands of Adventure.

Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort and Universal Aventura Hotel are closest to Universal Volcano Bay and have their own separate entrances to the water park. All official Universal Orlando hotel guests can use these entrances, but if you're not staying at one of these hotels, it's easier to take the bus.

Universal Helios Grand Hotel from Celestial Park

Universal Helios Grand Hotel is the closest to Universal Epic Universe as it is quite literally IN the theme park. Because of this, hotel guests staying at Helios Grand Hotel with valid admission to Epic Universe have a dedicated entrance directly into the park! With Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry only steps away from the hotel entrance, Early Park Admission gives Helios Grand guests, in particular, a huge advantage over other guests entering from the main entrance.

2. Variety of Universal Orlando Hotel Room Types and Budget Options

There is a wide range of room types at the official Universal Orlando hotels, from budget-friendly options all the way up to luxury suites! Remember, you can save even more on your Universal Orlando vacation by booking through Undercover Tourist and bundling your tickets and hotel stay in a vacation package. The standard rooms at Loews Portofino Bay Hotel (as low as $609 a night) are the largest, at least 450 square feet. Standard rooms at Loews Royal Pacific Resort (as low as $515 a night) and Hard Rock Hotel (as low as $583 a night) are at least 375 square feet. Standard rooms at Loews Sapphire Falls (as low as $320 a night) are 321 square feet. Standard rooms at Cabana Bay (as low as $226 a night) are 300 square feet, although there are also 430-square-foot family suites! Universal Aventura Hotel (as low as $226 a night) offers 314-square-foot standard rooms and 575-square-foot family suites. Standard rooms at Universal Endless Summer (as low as $162 a night) include 313-square-foot standard rooms and 440-square-foot, 2-bedroom family suites.

Universal Stella Nova Resort Standard Room

Standard rooms at Universal Stella Nova Resort (as low as $213 a night) and Universal Terra Luna Resort (as low as $213 a night) are 315 square feet. Standard rooms at Universal Helios Grand Hotel (as low as $402 a night) come in at 325 square feet for rooms with two queen-sized beds and 340 square feet for rooms with one king-sized bed; however, there are also 545-square-foot kids' suites themed to "How to Train Your Dragon!"

Hard Rock, Portofino Bay, Aventura and Helios Grand have deluxe-level rooms that are larger than standard rooms and offer slightly better views. Guests staying at Hard Rock, Portofino Bay, Royal Pacific and Helios Grand can upgrade to the Club Level and enjoy additional privileges such as access to the private lounge, continental breakfast and hors d'oeuvres.

Universal Helios Grand Hotel Standard Room

Cabana Bay's family suites offer kitchenettes with microwaves and mini-fridges, as well as two queen beds and a full sofa bed. Additionally, Cabana Bay now has a limited number of two-bedroom, two-full bathroom, 772-square-foot suites that sleep up to eight. Many offer views of Universal Volcano Bay, and they are fabulous! Aventura's kids' suites feature wall-to-ceiling windows, sleep five and have a special interior kids' area.

3. Fabulous Universal Orlando Hotel Amenities

Loews Portofino Bay Hotel has three pools, a fitness center, jogging and walking paths, eight dining options (plus room service), on-property entertainment, a Starbucks, a game room and wonderful waterfront views.

Loews Royal Pacific Resort Pool

Loews Royal Pacific Resort has one lagoon-themed pool, a complimentary fitness center, five dining options (plus room service), a game room and extensive walking and jogging paths.

Hard Rock Hotel has a 12,000-square-foot rockin' pool (with underwater music and a waterslide), a fitness center, jogging and walking paths, five dining options (plus room service) and The Sound of Your Stay program, which allows you to rock out with playlists, guitars and turntables in the privacy of your hotel room.

Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort has two massive feature pools, a waterslide, a lazy river, a children's water play area, poolside activities, a bowling alley, a fitness center, a Starbucks and an array of cuisine at its various restaurants.

Hideaway Bar and Grill at Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort

Loews Sapphire Falls Resort has a massive, lagoon-style pool (with cabanas for rent, a waterslide, a children's play area and more), a fitness center and multiple dining options, including a rum bar!

Universal Aventura Hotel has a HUGE selection of what we like to call "gourmet quick-service" food and a rooftop lounge, as well as a pool and an awesome gift shop. All rooms are equipped with a mini-refrigerator.

Universal Endless Summer – Surfside Inn and Suites has a surfboard-shaped pool, a pool bar, a cafeteria-style dining area, a fitness center and a game room. Universal Endless Summer – Dockside Inn and Suites features two large pools with sand beaches, a pool bar, a food court, a fitness center and a game room.

Universal Terra Luna Resort Pool

Universal Stella Nova Resort and Universal Terra Luna Resort each have a zero-entry pool with pop-up jets, a hot tub, a fire pit and poolside loungers, a poolside bar and grill, poolside movies, outdoor games, a game room and a complimentary fitness center.

Universal Helios Grand Hotel has a resort-style, zero-entry pool with underwater speakers, a terraced deck, an outdoor fire pit area, a hot tub, private cabanas for rent, lounge pool chairs, a towel cabana, poolside activities (including poolside movies), a game room and a complimentary fitness center.

4. Early Park Admission

All of the official Universal Orlando hotels offer Early Park Admission to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and other select attractions at Universal Epic Universe and either Universal Studios Florida or Universal Islands of Adventure up to one hour prior to park opening and Early Park Admission to Universal Volcano Bay up to 30 minutes before opening. Additionally, hotel guests are able to enter Universal Epic Universe up to one hour prior to park opening and ride select attractions. (You must have valid Universal Orlando admission.) This perk is so toadally awesome that we've devoted a whole post to how Early Park Admission works, including the current EPA schedule!

5. Free Universal Express Unlimited (at Select Signature Collection Hotels)

This is the best perk of them all! Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel and Loews Royal Pacific Resort offer guests Universal Express Unlimited, which allows them to bypass the regular lines at the participating rides at Universal Studios and Universal Islands of Adventure. Universal Express Unlimited is valid for the entire length of stay, including days of check-in and check-out, and there is no limit to the number of times you use it. Your hotel keys (each person has a personalized key) double as your Express Passes. (You must have valid Universal Orlando admission.)

We cannot understate the value of Universal Express Unlimited. This perk which allows you to enjoy shorter wait times at select attractions is one of the best ways — if not the best way — to experience the parks. And if you know you will need or want Universal Express passes, it is almost always way more economical to stay on property than to stay off-site and purchase these passes separately. Here are more tips on when to use Universal Express.

6. Hoppin' Easy Transportation to the Parks and Universal CityWalk

Universal Orlando Resort Water Taxi

Guests of the official Universal Orlando hotels can use the free transportation to and from Universal Studios, Universal Islands of Adventure, Universal Epic Universe, Universal Volcano Bay and Universal CityWalk. There are two forms of free transportation: water taxis and shuttle buses. When your frog legs are tired of hopping, free transportation is a lifesaver. (Watch a video of the water taxi ride from Loews Portofino Bay Hotel here.)

Additional hotel guest benefits include resort-wide charging privileges with your room key card and complimentary merchandise delivery from Universal stores to your hotel.

7. Priority Seating (at Select Universal Orlando Hotels)

Mythos Restaurant Interior at Universal Islands of Adventure

Guests staying at Lowes Portofino Bay Hotel, Lowes Royal Pacific Hotel and Hard Rock Hotel receive priority seating at select restaurants. Note that restaurants are subject to change, and availability may be limited during peak times or some weekends. Call 407-224-FOOD (3663) for more information.

Hi..

In regards parking at Universal Parks and Cabana Bay.

#Question1

If I stay at Cabana, I pay $22 parking per night. If I keep the car parked at the hotel during the day, is there any charge ?

#Question 2

If you are an Orlando resort guest, do you still need to pay for parking at the Orlando parks ? (not like WDW where resort guest has free parking at Epcot for instance).

Cheers, Eric

Hi Eric!

Parking at Universal comes at a cost, including for hotel guests. The costs are as follows: Prime Parking: $35; RV/Bus Parking: $30; Regular Parking: $25. However, Cabana Bay does offer complimentary shuttle buses and walking paths around the resort to get to the parks.

The current parking cost at Cabana Bay for resort guests if you are self parking is $17 plus tax per night, per vehicle, which they'll walk through with you at check-in. There's no additional fee to keep the car parked at the resort during the day.

Hi...so I am just beginning research for a trip to Universal for 2020, but so far I am pretty certain we will want to take advantage of the staying onsite perks. I have two questions though. Are the three premier hotels still the only Universal Hotels that come with the express passes? Second...do you have to purchase the hotel and tickets at the same time as a package to get this perk? Or can I order my tickets from Undercover Tourist now and book the hotel later as the dates get closer? That brings up a third question...if I pre-order my tickets...say now for a Nov 2020 trip...is there any fear of ticket expiration? Thanks much...you site made our Disney trips so awesome...of course you would be my "go-to" for Universal as well!

Hi Chad,

Thanks for reaching out and glad to hear we're your go-to!! These three hotels are currently the only ones offering the Express benefit. You do not have to purchase your hotel the same time as tickets, and you may purchase them all from us if you'd like. As far as tickets, each one lists the specific terms and any blackouts or expirations.

Based on your reviews and great info we just spent 4 nights at the Royal Pacific, 2 adults and a teenager. We LOVED it and are already planning to go back! For others who are asking - they placed a $200/night hold on my CC, $800 total for our stay. I'm sure it varies by hotel. Using the Express Pass Unlimited option was easy and worth every extra penny that this hotel costs.

Which of the three premier properties is easiest to get in and out of as far as parking? I have an upcoming stay that I will need to leave around 3:00 p.m. and want to figure out the best location to stay at to facilitate a quick exit so we can maximize time in the park. Hi Michael,

This is a good question! All of these hotels should be comparable. We don't always have a car with us on our trips, but we have found it to be very easy to leave the Hard Rock Hotel parking lot. The nice thing about Hard Rock Hotel is that it's the closest to the parks too, so you can easily walk back after your day in the parks and then hit the road!

Hi!!

We are traveling to Orlando at the end of June for three days before our cruise (Bahamas here we come!!!)We are traveling with our 7 year old daughter. I am having the HARDEST time deciding between staying at a Disney resort or an Universal studio resort. We plan on going to at least one park and are leaning more towards universal as our daughter is now tall enough to ride almost all of the rides and LOVE rides. However I also want to give her the Disney feel that I know you could get at a Disney resort even without going to Disney. Any thoughts??

Hi Sharon,

The bus pickup is at the Universal CityWalk parking complex. The closest hotels would be Loews Royal Pacific and Hard Rock Hotel!

Hi and thank you for this post! I was just wondering if the on site hotel key also gets you into City Walk bars and restaurants at night without a cover charge? Or will I still need to buy a party pass to check out all the bars in one night?

Hi Tony,

It depends on the hotel you stay at. Portofino Bay, Hard Rock and Royal Pacific all provide complimentary access to certain live entertainment venues at CityWalk!

Hi Bobby!

We're HUGE fans of both Universal and Disney hotels, and don't blame you for wanting to stay on Universal property. However, Universal is about 20+ minutes from Disney, depending on traffic, so it will add extra time to your commute. It will also add an extra cost for you to rent a car or Uber to the parks, since staying on Disney property offers free transportation. Here are a few other factors to keep in mind. Let us know if you have any other questions!

Hi! I am planning a trip for my 10-year-old son and myself. I want to go to Universal Studios as well as Magic Kingdom. I just read everything I could at your website and your replies are thoughtful and helpful. What is best: stay at a Universal Studios hotel and use an Uber for Disney and the Florida Mall or stay at another hotel, rent a car and drive everywhere?

Hi Monica!

Great question! If you're planning on adventuring throughout Orlando at Disney, Universal and shopping destinations, renting a car sounds like a great option regardless of where you stay. On the other hand, taking an Uber would help you avoid parking fees at the parks. Go with whatever sounds more convenient to you!

Hi Jennifer,

Loews Royal Pacific Hotel offers the Express Pass benefit, as well as sleeps up to 5 people in standard rooms with a rollaway bed. This hotel is less expensive than the Hard Rock Hotel and Loews Portofino Bay Hotel that also both offer the Express Pass benefit. They are all three great hotels, so it's really up to you on which one you want to choose!

Hi Jamie,

Early Admission and Express Passes aren't offered through the Universal Orlando partner hotels, unless you book a Universal Orlando vacation package. If you book a package, then you'll receive Early Admission. Some Universal partner hotels offer bonus benefits that include discounts on Universal Orlando merchandise, food and non-alcoholic beverages, and they also provide transportation to the parks.

We are planning a 4night, 5day vacation to Orlando Jan. 21st -26th 2018. Both my teens are Autistic 13 and 16, My 13 yr daughter wants to do everything Harry Potter..my son could care less. Both don't care for roller coaster rides but are fine with gentle rides...like " small world or Peter Pan". We would like to do 2 days at DW and 1 day at Universal..but my son may need an afternoon break from the crowd back at the hotel. I'm wondering if we should stay at a Universal hotel vs DW.. or even a Disney springs hotel. We stayed at the Port Orleans-French quarter at our last visit 3 yrs ago and both kids did fine with the fast pass option they had then. Is that still available? Is there another option out there for kids with Autism...16 yr old would only need it for the Harry Potter stuff..he finds it scary. Won't need it for the DW portion of our trip. Thank you

Hi Kim,

Fastpass+ is still available.

If you son needs a break, we recommend staying at a convenient hotel for your Disney World part, and another one near Universal. Remeber, we sell discount Orlando hotel rooms!

Also for your son, ask about Universal's Attraction Assistance Pass, which may provide him with accommodations for attractions and wait times.

We are looking at staying June 14-16, 2018 and will have a full three days at the two parks (not doing volcano bay). Is the express pass still a necessity or will we be ok since we have the three days? Thought about just doing express pass last day because it is cheaper. Will give us one day to malke up what we missed or re-ride our faves. Cabana bay with one day express still come in cheaper for 6 than royal pacific.

Just returned from Universal Studios Orlando vacation, we stayed at Universal's Cabana Beach Bay Resort hotel which was great. It's a 50's themed hotel, that has large pools, a diner style food options and a lazy river. We went to all 3 of the theme parks including Volcano Bay. As guests of the Cabana Bay Hotel we were allowed the enter all of the theme parks one hour before they opened to the public which was a huge bonus as we did not have to dealt with long lines to get on the big rides such as Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, Skull Island: Reign of Kong, the Hulk and the Krakatau aqua coaster at Volcano Bay.

The hotel offers free shuttle bus service that we spacious, cool and run on time. I posted videos of our entire trip my Youtube channel. Check it out! Especially if you have never been to either Cabana Bay Resort or the theme parks. Will also be posting videos with tips

and food reviews. We cant wait to go back next year!

????????Family of four (16/10 yr old kids) looking at Universal-area for 7-8 days (Dec 28-Jan 4). Have bought Disney tix via your site in the past. Looking for insight on hotel and Universal tix pkgs from Undercover Tourist. Likely 3-4 days of Universal, park to park, and express. No pets and no interest in access for the hour before opening. Maybe a day at Seaworld also. Given our Universal needs (hotel/tix) can you sum up value proposition of on-site hotel vs your off-site partner hotels to account for hotel and tix? Any special considerations we should keep in mind? Thank you!

Staying at a hotel near Universal will save you money on the room. However, the Express Passes (which we do not sell, unfortunately) will be more expensive during your visit. We have plenty of discount Park-to-Park tickets that will save you money. Have fun!

Preferred dining means that you'll be seated ahead of other parties when you walk-up at select restaurants. We definitely recommend reservations if you know where/when you want to dine.
