Frog Overview
On Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, you'll speed through mine shafts, caverns and bat caves! This Disneyland® Park mine train roller coaster takes you on a rickity ride with plenty of surprises along the way, including falling rocks and rushing water. As you make your way through Big Thunder Mountain and the Old West, keep an eye out for beautiful scenery, such as a natural arch bridge, stalagmites and stalactites, but be careful-- the coyotes and rattlers are not friendly! If you listen closely when thundering through the mine shafts, you might hear ghostly sounds of the supernatural legends from the 1850s.Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a roller coaster in Frontierland at Disneyland® Park. The roller coaster's duration is around 4 minutes long. Guests must be at least 40 inches to ride. Guests must transfer their wheelchairs or ECVs to experience Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. For wheelchair access, enter through the exit to the unload area and contact a Cast Member for boarding instructions. A transfer access vehicle is available.
This attraction offers Rider Switch.

Frog Family Tips and Fun Facts about Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Frog Family Tips
- Try to visit early in the morning, in the evening, or both! Thanks to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad's status as a tamer coaster than Space Mountain in Disneyland® Park, it sees plenty of action.
- This is a great first coaster for young tadpoles who meet the height requirement.
- Sit towards the front of the train for a less wild experience. Definitely try it at night at least once for a toadally different experience!
Fun Facts
- Look out for the miniature town of Big Thunder at the end of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. This town's original name was Rainbow Ridge and it was one of the many elements from the Rainbow Caverns Mine Trail (1956 to 1977), which took guests around Frontierland in Disneyland® Park.
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Disneyland® Park went through an extended refurb that saw two-thirds of its track replaced, making for a much smoother ride. New special effects, upgraded audio and lighting and a new ride control system rounded out the changes.
