Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Costume Ideas

With so many Disney costumes, there are lots of possibilities for costume ideas. Perhaps you'll choose a favorite character, dynamic duo or characters from recent films. To help with the creative process, we've put together some of our top Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party costume ideas.

Encanto

Disney costumes – Family dressed up from "Encanto"

With a colorful collection of characters, "Encanto" makes for a great group costume. Perfect for a large family, the iconic colors and accessories of the characters mean you can keep it as simple as you want. With the popularity of this film, I'm sure we'll see many Family Madrigals again this year. Plus, you can meet Mirabel and Bruno together during the party (Bruno is typically exclusive to these special parties as a rare character!).

Inside Out

With the massive success of the long-awaited sequel, the emotions of "Inside Out" were without a doubt the most popular costumes we saw this year! Anxietys with tall orange hair, Fears with red bowties, Joys with green dresses ... PLUS, with four new emotions (plus good 'ol Nostalgia), you can get a bigger crew together than ever before! Take a ride on Space Mountain (with all the lights off!) or try the stand-by line for Tron Lightcycle / Run for a true emotional rollercoaster.

Descendants

Disney Costumes - DescenDANCE Party

"Life is sweeter" now that we've meet Red, Chloe, Bridget and Ella. "Descendants: The Rise of Red" has absolutely BLOWN UP on social media with everyone and their (hopefully not evil) mother recreating the choreography to the catchy songs. (We even saw someone doing the viral "Red" dance at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Café!) Throw on a wig, don yourself in hearts and unleash your inner VK by going to the party as Auradon's (or Merlin Academy's) finest and bust a move at the DescenDANCE Party at Rockettower Plaza!

Peter Pan

We're off to Neverland! With a fun ensemble of characters, "Peter Pan" is a great option for couples or families. Be sure to head over to Fantasyland and pose by the beautiful mural located in the outdoor portion of the Peter Pan's Flight queue.

Toy Story

Family at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

A beloved classic, "Toy Story" is another great option for group costumes. Since there is a wide variety of ensemble characters, there is something for everyone! With such iconic looks, it doesn't take much in the way of color schemes and accessories to capture the complete look.

Hercules

Disney Costumes - Hercules and Meg

"Bless my soul, Herc is on roll" with the newest announcements coming out of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. You'll soon be able to see Wonder Boy onstage both in London's West End in summer 2025 AND on the Disney Destiny which will set sail in 2025. "Go the distance" at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party with an epic "Hercules" group costume! While none of the movie's characters are available to meet, you'll find Hades tearing it up onstage in the Hocus Pocus Villain Spectacular and his bumbling minions, Pain and Panic, rocking out in Mickey's Boo-To-You Halloween Parade.

Mickey and Friends

In terms of group costumes, you can't go wrong with the "Fab Five." Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale all make for fun Disney costumes or DisneyBounds. Many of Mickey and friends are available to meet before the party in regular outfits or during the event in their Halloween costumes.

Tips for Wearing Disney Costumes

Here are some of our tried and true tips for wearing costumes at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party:

1. Prepare for the Weather

This is truly our biggest tip — dress for the weather. The average high temperature is 91 in August, 90 in September and 85 in October. It can be quite muggy, especially after those still-frequent afternoon rains. We recommend modifying costumes, DisneyBounding or opting for a lightweight T-shirt equivalent. Places such as Etsy and Amazon have lots of great options for screen-printed shirts and dresses of your favorite character's outfit. This allows you to still dress up while beating the heat! Be mindful of the Florida rain and be prepared with ponchos, umbrellas and extra socks.

2. Coordinate with Your Group

Disney Costumes - Hades Pain and Panic

If attending Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party with a group, this can be a great opportunity to pick one theme. As we mentioned above, there are so many favorite films that feature a variety of characters. Group costumes make it easy for people to go all in or be convinced to wear a themed shirt. Of course, you want to make sure everyone is happy with their costume. Sometimes it may work out better to have no group theme.

3. Correspond to Special Characters

With so many special characters at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, it can be a great chance to choose your Disney costumes based on meeting certain characters. Perhaps you'll plan to meet Winnie the Pooh and friends in their Halloween costumes or Jack Skellington and Sally. Or embrace a little Hocus Pocus with the Sanderson Sisters, who can be seen during the castle stage show periodically throughout the night. There are so many rare characters who only meet during these parties, so it can be extra magical to dress up as characters from the same story.

4. Create a Unique Mash-up

Put your imagination to the test to create some unique mash-up characters! From Disney princesses as Jedi to modern-day or swapping characters of a different gender, you can make up your own version of a character by combing your favorite fandoms.

5. Consider Booking Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

For tadpoles ages 3 to 12, consider booking a magical makeover at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. With a convenient location by Cinderella Castle, young guests can get a full glam transformation into a princess or knight. Reservations are limited for this popular experience, and you'll want to be mindful of booking a time after 4 p.m. if only utilizing a party ticket.

6. Take Lots of Photos

Be sure to take lots of photos of your magical Disney costumes. There are so many wonderful backdrops to use in Magic Kingdom. There are lots of PhotoPass photographers stationed throughout the park, and they'll even have special Halloween MagicShots. We recommend purchasing Memory Maker for unlimited photo downloads.

7. Have Fun and Embrace the Halloween Spirit

When in doubt, you can always dress up to celebrate Halloween itself. Grab those orange T-Shirts, spooky ears and celebrate all things not-so-scary!
