Our Guide to Disney Genie Plus Service at Disney World

by Leap on March 3, 2024 138 Orlando

Inside This Post Inside This Post

Disney World Genie Plus service is out of the lamp, and your wish is our command when it comes to covering all of the magical details! We're breaking down Disney World Genie Plus service, with everything you need to know about Disney Genie, Genie Plus and individual Lightning Lane selections for the Most Magical Place on Earth. And be sure to bookmark this guide — as Genie+ continues to evolve, we stay on top of the latest updates. The latest? Genie+ service can be purchased as a single-park or multi-park option. Now, let's hop to it!

Genie Plus Logo

Just like Aladdin was granted three wishes, there are three major parts to Disney Genie:

  • The free Genie planning tool
  • The optional paid Genie+ service to make ride reservations for the majority of popular attractions at the theme parks
  • The individual Lightning Lane selections for high-demand rides not included in Genie+ for an additional cost per ride

We'll get into all of the details below! Disney Genie is also available at Disneyland (and we've got a whole guide just for Genie on the West Coast!). And keep hopping back — we'll continue to update as we learn more and strengthen our Genie+ tips and strategies! Speaking of news, Genie+ pricing now varies by date, often ranging from $15 to $35 per person. This pricing also varies by park, as guests are invited to select Genie+ service for one park or multiple (if you're park hopping). Guests should check the My Disney Experience app for the most up-to-date pricing on the day of their visit.

What Exactly Is Disney Genie?

Disney Genie is a FREE tool in the My Disney Experience app at Disney World. You can use this new technology to guide you through the theme parks with tips to help you reduce time in lines, discover Disney magic and take the guesswork out of planning your day.

Genie Plus - App snapshotGenie includes a personalized itinerary and recommendations feature that will map out your entire day. Just let Disney Genie know what you want to do under the "My Day" tab by selecting attractions, entertainment, dining and enchanting extras (such as building a lightsaber). You can personalize your day even more by selecting general interests you may have. Change your mind? Genie can handle that and readjust your itinerary to include what interests you while you are on the go. You can view your favorites and suggestions in one place on the "Tip Board" tab. You can also request to see height requirements and accessibility when planning out your day.

Disney Genie allows for flexibility. If you like to be spontaneous and go with the flow, Disney Genie will update your itinerary as you go. It displays current and projected ride wait times and helps you pick the best time to ride (kind of like what your favorite frogs have been doing for years to help readers maximize time and follow proven park plans based on our extensive experience in the parks). You'll be able to join a virtual queue, mobile order food, join a restaurant walk-up list and make reservations for dining and rides through Genie, just like you already do through the park apps, but all in one spot. If you do not like a suggestion, you can do a Swaperoo to switch out recommendations. You can also remove specific attractions from your planning so they will not show up for the rest of the day. If you have questions, ask the virtual assistant for help. You ain't never had a friend like Genie!

You can start planning your trip ahead of time with Disney Genie, but you'll need to purchase tickets and link them to the My Disney Experience app first. We recommend playing around with it at home before your trip so you can get comfortable with it. Remember, the free Genie tool is all suggestions and not set reservations, so you can follow the tip board perfectly or use it sparingly.

Will your crew be visiting Disney World in 2024? Disney has announced that they are working on making Genie+ easier to use. The goal is to help guests plan in advance so there's less time planning while in the parks and more time can be spent enjoying time with family and friends. While specific details are not available just yet, the updates should be coming out later this year. We'll be sure to keep you posted on the latest!

Disability Access Service (DAS) Changes

If you have someone in your party with disabilities that make it difficult to wait in a standard queue, the Disability Access Service (DAS) can be a trip-saver. Waiting in line to set it up and getting return times can be cumbersome when dealing with special needs. Genie is able to smooth out the process for you.

Eligible guests can now pre-register for DAS Advance via live video chat (there is a chat button on the page) between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. Eastern. Guests can pre-register up to 30 days in advance of a park visit but no less than two days before arrival. The DAS participants may book up to two one-hour return windows for select experiences. Once in the park, DAS users may select attractions directly in the app. These options will be available in addition to the existing, in-person DAS program. The individual Lightning Lane selections, such as Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, are not available for pre-booking through the DAS Advance system, but you can still get a return time in person on the day of your visit. Visit Disney's Services for Guests with Disabilities pages at DisneyWorld.com for more details. And be sure to check out our Disney World's Disability Access Service post for more details on the program.

The Power of Disney World Genie Plus

For a daily cost, Genie+ allows guests to select attractions and bypass the standby line, utilizing the Lightning Lane entrances (the rebranded FastPass+ lines). Selections are made one at a time for the same day, so no making selections in advance.

Of course, these services differ slightly based on the resort you visit. Let's take a look at Genie+ at Disney World (and you can find more info in our Disneyland Genie guide).

Disney World Genie Plus Service at a Glance

  • Pricing varies by date and park, typically starting at $15 (check the My Disney Experience app for the most up-to-date pricing).
  • Can select a single-park option or multi-park option, if park hopping.
  • Grants faster access to select attractions and character greetings using the Lightning Lane entrance.
  • Can make one reservation at a time throughout the day.
  • Guests can make their initial Genie+ selection beginning at 7 a.m. on the day of their visit.
  • Once the initial selection is redeemed, the arrival window has passed or it's been 120 minutes since making the most recent reservation, guests can make another selection up to park closing.
  • Lightning Lane selections made with Genie+ can now be modified, allowing you to change the time or even pick another attraction in the same park.
  • Selections can be made across theme parks for eligible park hoppers (when purchasing the multi-park option)
  • Standby lines remain free.
  • Virtual queues are free but have a paid option with individual Lightning Lane selections.
  • Has augmented reality photo lenses (we had fun turning ourselves into genies!).

  • Genie+ now includes digital downloads of Disney PhotoPass attraction photos taken in the park on the day of purchase at no additional charge. Check out our guide to Disney World ride photos for more details!
  • Park reservations are no longer required for date-based tickets, so you'll be able to select whichever park you would like.

How Do I Get Genie Plus at Disney World?

Disney Genie+ single and multi-park price options

Disney Genie+ service is no longer available to purchase as an add-on to new tickets, and is only available for sale on the day of your visit via the My Disney Experience app. If you have multi-day tickets or annual passes, you will need to purchase Genie+ each day that you would like to use it. It becomes available beginning after midnight.

The pricing for Genie+ is now variable by date and park. From the home screen of the My Disney Experience app, click the Genie+ section and select "Get Disney Genie+ Service". You'll then be taken to the different price options. You can choose any of the theme parks individually or select the multi-park option (only available to those with park hoppers). This allows more flexibility on how you want to use Genie+. Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios may cost more due to the number of attractions they offer, though you can save some money now when purchasing Genie+ for EPCOT and Animal Kingdom. With all-day park hopping back, this definitely makes the multi-park option extra hopful.

If you purchase a single park and then decide you want to park hop and use Genie+ at a second park, you'll currently need to head to Guest Relations to refund the single park and then purchase a multi-park option. Note that if any of the individual parks sell out for the day, the multi-park option will not be available for purchase.

All of the Disney Genie services live within the My Disney Experience app for Disney World. Now the top of the home page for the My Disney Experience shows your plans. Tapping the "My Day" link in the top right corner takes you to the Disney Genie service homepage. Here, you can purchase Genie+ (if you have not done so already) and begin planning for your day. Remember, Genie+ selections can only be made starting at 7 a.m. on that day only. Each experience can only be used with Genie+ once per day, so once you ride an attraction or meet a character with Genie+, you won't be able to book another Lightning Lane time (but standby or virtual queue is always an option if you want to go again!).

Genie Service Guide - Tip BoardIn the app, once you've chosen your day, you will select your party, which will automatically select anyone with valid admission (and a park pass reservation for select ticket types). You can edit your party members at this time if need be. Then, you can choose which attraction you would like to use for your first Genie+ experience. The arrival windows will be for a one-hour period, so you can arrive whenever during that time.

Once your arrival window has started, you will scan into the attraction, show or character greeting by tapping your MagicBand, Key to the World card or MagicMobile pass (which works within your smartphone's wallet — no need for a MagicBand!) to the Mickey touchpoints at the Lightning Lane entrance. For many rides, be prepared to tap again later in the queue. Once you have scanned into both touchpoints, you are free to book your next Genie+ selection (unless you booked a different reservation more recently). We tested it and found that the app would not change after the first touchpoint, but almost immediately let us book after the second touchpoint.

The arrival windows are fairly strict, so there is no reason to show up to the Lightning Lane way before your window starts. The system does let you tap in five minutes early with no issue, but nothing earlier. If running late, there is a five-minute grace period. There can sometimes be up to 15 minutes late allowed, but that can be up to the specific attraction at that time. If you are worried that you will miss the window, we recommend trying to modify and book a different time. We learned the hard way that if you miss your arrival window, the attraction is still used up for Genie+ access. So even though we never scanned into Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, the system would not let us book it again. Had we modified it instead, we could have made another Buzz Lightyear selection for later on.

Pay-Per-Ride Individual Lightning Lane Selections

A few high-demand rides are excluded from Genie+. For these, you can make a la carte reservations, kind of like FastPass+, but for a fee. You can purchase individual Lightning Lane pay-per-ride selections for a particular attraction once per day. You can pay to upgrade for up to two different rides per person, per day. You may purchase both of them at the same time (if you're hopping to another park). These can sell out quickly for popular attractions such as Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.

Disney World Genie Plus - Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Individual attraction selections will be made on the same day of your visit and can be used across multiple theme parks, which is good news for those who love the park hopper option. This option is available to all guests with or without Genie+. You can purchase via the Disney Genie service in the My Disney Experience app at Disney World on the same day as your visit. You can book a maximum of two individual Lightning Lane attractions per person, per day, and you can't book the same attraction twice. These selections cannot be modified at this time.

Standby lines and free virtual queues remain options for all individual Lightning Lane attractions. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT and TRON Lightcycle Run at Magic Kingdom each utilize a free virtual queue system and is an individual Lightning Lane selection available for purchase. Pricing for this option varies by date, attraction and park.

How early can you book an individual Lightning Lane? Guests of a Disney Resort hotel (and other select hotels such as Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels and Shades of Green) at Disney World can make their first purchase starting at 7 a.m. on the day of their visit. All other guests may book once the park opens for the day. That means if you are park hopping but not a Disney World hotel guest and want to make a selection for your second park, you will have to wait until the other park opens to purchase. The good news is you don't have to be in the park to make the selection.

Unlike Genie+ selections (which are next available times only), you can pick individual selections for any timeframe that is available throughout the day. Plus you can overlap your Genie+ and individual attraction selections without any issue!

Disney Genie - Individual Lightning Lane Selections

The individual pay-to-skip-the-line options are subject to change, and it should be noted that this a la carte option and Genie+ offer different attractions. You can use both services together or separately

Disney World Genie Plus Tips and Tricks

Here are some of our most basic tips and tricks (but if you want to dig a little deeper, hop over to our separate Tips and Tricks post, where we get into even more detail).

  • For Genie Plus at Disney World, you can only choose the next available timeframe for an attraction, show or character greeting. For purchased individual Lightning Lane selections, you can pick your arrival window for any time that is available throughout the day. If possible, we recommend booking your individual attraction for an early afternoon window when wait times are at their highest. This allows you to maximize the time saved so you can get more rides in!
  • When booking individual Lightning Lane selections, keep in mind that the person making the reservation will be the person paying and everyone in the party will be automatically linked. If your party consists of groups that would need to pay separately, you'll want to edit the members of your party. The only caveat is that you could potentially end up in different time windows for your ride reservations, especially if it's a particularly busy day and times are getting booked quickly. If you want to ensure that everybody rides at the same time, then book together and have individuals send money via Venmo (or some other money-sharing app) to the purchaser.
  • You can only make one Genie+ selection at a time, but you can have overlapping Genie+ selections. How? There is a two-hour window before you can make another selection. Because you can only choose the next available time window, the window can start as soon as five minutes later or hours away, depending on the ride and crowds. At noon, for instance, you might find that the next time window is at 7 p.m. To avoid being tethered to only one ride for seven hours, your ability to make Genie+ selections is "frozen" for two hours. So, at 2 p.m., you could make another Genie+ selection, despite not going on the 7 p.m. ride yet. At 4 p.m., you could make an additional selection if your next ride is two hours away, and so on. If you make your first selection at 7 a.m., then you can make another two hours after park opening.
  • With the new modification feature, even if you modify your Genie+ selection to a later time, it does not affect when you book your next reservation.
  • Your Genie+ selections can overlap with your individual attraction selections, so you can max out your day with more efficiency. Just make sure you don't miss your arrival windows.
  • Attractions with virtual queues will allow you to join a virtual queue and purchase an individual Lightning Lane selection on the same day, when in use. This means you could ride an attraction twice, once through a Boarding Group time and once through your individual Lightning Lane selection.
  • Park hopping? Genie has got you covered. You can let the Genie planning service know what time you plan on being at the next park and it will add suggestions throughout your day. We were even able to purchase two individual Lightning Lane selections for two separate parks in the morning with no issues.

We are sure you have loads of Disney Genie questions. Ask away in the comments below, and keep hopping back to this post for updates as we discover more about Disney Genie while we continue to use it at Disney World.

Your article states, "If you have already purchased tickets with Genie+ before June 8, 2022, your ticket still includes Genie+! Genie+ service is subject to availability."

Based on my recent experience with Disney, that statement is no longer valid. I purchased tickets in May 2022 for use in July 2022. At that time, we had to reschedule for a family emergency. We changed our tickets to August 2022 and then had to defer use until this summer. We were told when we rescheduled to August and then again when we called after we found that we could not use our August tickets that because we had purchased our tickets before that deadline, our tickets would still include Genie+.

However, when we called Disney last week to reschedule our tickets, we were told this was no longer the case. We would receive credit for the amount of money we had paid for our tickets, but we would have to purchase Genie+ every day, just as everyone else did. They would not budge from this policy despite talking to several people and being on the phone with Disney for over an hour.

I would love to know if you have a reliable source for this information, as I would like to take it up with Disney.

We were assured that we would still have the Genie+ attached to our tickets whenever we were able to use them because we had purchased them before the change. The CSRs we spoke with said their hands were tied because it was a policy change. I wish I had gotten their assurances as a written guarantee, but I doubt that it would have meant little to them even if I had accomplished this.

Sounds like all guests may reserve first G+ at 7 am. Previously it was resort guests at 7 and all other guest at park opening. When did this change?

Hi Susan!

It's always been 7 a.m. for all guests who can book their first Genie+ selection. You may be thinking about the individual Lightning Lanes! Resort guests can reserve at 7 a.m. and other guests can book at park open — and this has not changed either.

Great that you can book lightening lanes for any park if you plan to park hop but can you also join a virtual line for a ride if you are at a different park or do you have to be in the park to book to be in the virtual line? I am a bit confused how the virtual lines work!

Reply
Apr 28, 2023 at 8:18 a.m. FrogBlog Says...

Hi Beverley!

No worries! The virtual queue first opens at 7 a.m. - you can join from anywhere (since the parks are not open this early) but you must have a theme park reservation for whichever ride you're trying to join the virtual queue for (currently as of writing, EPCOT for Cosmic Rewind or Magic Kingdom for TRON). Then, at 1 p.m. when the virtual queue opens for a second time, you will need to have entered the park in order to join. You can find more info in our virtual queues post!

We hated the Genie. Having to be at your phone at 7am to try and get passes is ridiculous. Disney charges enough for park passes so having to pay extra and being glued to your phone to try and get times for attractions does not make for a magical vacation.

Based on all the questions posted above one can see this is a very complicated system. I wish they would scrap both those systems start over and bring back the good old days of Disney Magic.

First they should start off with a ticket purchase that automatically gives you a park reservation at the park of your choice.

Second, make the single rider line the new "Disney line" for prepaid rides . Make it ten bucks and be done with it. No more gouging more money out of folks for the popular rides.

Third make ride reservations three days in advance . Thousands of people queuing their phones at 7am is absurd . That practice needs to stop. Imagine kids screaming , eating breakfast getting dressed and parents pulling their hair out all right at 7am!! Who was the genius who thought that was a good idea??

Please make it easy on park quests .

Hello, wanting to make sure I'm following correctly, the fee is $15, not $15 per booked time? And is it 3 maximum bookings for the day?

Thanks

Hi Colleen!

Genie+ starts at $15 per day, per person, though pricing is variable depending on the day (we've seen it reach up to $35 per day, per person during the busiest times). There isn't a maximum amount of Genie+ reservations you can make, but you can only make one at a time. Once you make a Genie+ reservation, you can make another one either 1) two hours later, or 2) after you've scanned in for your most recently booked reservation (whichever comes first).

Hate using Genie, all passes were taken by 7:10am, waste of time. In EPCOT, paid but never used it. We got on guardians by signing up in virtual que at 1pm. Same for AK, only used for Safari, the rest was not available. We spent most of our time looking at our phones and did not enjoy the parks. This is NOT the way to see Disney.

Hi Silvia!

For individual Lightning Lanes (ILL), it depends. If you are staying at a Disney hotel, you can make up to two ILL purchases at 7 a.m. If you are not staying at a Disney hotel, you can purchase ILLs once the park officially opens.

For Genie+, you can make your first selection at 7 a.m. Then comes park open — you can make another Genie+ selection two hours from park open (if you don't happen to use it before then) and subsequently every two hours after that (or if you scan in for your most recently booked reservation). For example, let's say that at 7 a.m. you make a Genie+ reservation for Slinky Dog Dash from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Hollywood Studios opens at 8:30 a.m. — you would be able to make your second one at 10:30 a.m. Then a third at 12:30 p.m. (if you did not use your second one already). The app will tell you the exact time you can make your next one at the top of the Tip Board, if you lose track.

Hi Linda!

If you all wish to utilize Disney Genie+ and ride together on every ride, then yes. But you don't have to use Genie+ — there are still free standby queues (and free virtual queues for select rides — currently, just in use for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind but one will be in use for TRON Lightcycle / Run once it opens April 4). If half the group wants to use Genie+ while the other half doesn't, that's OK too! But those without Genie+ would not be able to utilize the Lightning Lane, so this method would only work if your group is OK with splitting up.

Hi Sally!

That could toadally be one way to do it! It's super easy to link MagicBands so you could even do it yourself (though the hotel would be hoppy to help). When you get your MagicBands, all you have to do is go to your My Disney Experience account. Choose "My MagicBands and Cards" from the dropdown menu on the website, or go to "My Profile" and then "MagicBands and Cards" via the app. You'll see an option to link your MagicBands. Then, once your tickets are linked as well, you'll be good to go!

So, if we are staying off property and therefore can't book our Rise of Resistance reservations until the park opens, what are the odds we will even be able to get a reservation? Do I need to rethink staying on property just in order to ride this ride? We would be so disappointed if we made all of these plans and spent the money to get to DW and then not be able to ride.

Hi Julie!

If you aren't able to get a reservation right at park open, keep checking! While it's honestly more out of lucky timing than a specific strategy, there's always a chance that more reservations pop up, but act quickly if you see one because they get snatched up as quickly as they appear. Also, there's still the option of the standby line. We'd suggest hopping in line first thing in the morning or later at night just before park close for the lowest wait times. And of course, there is the option to stay on-site. Reservations also sell out quickly at 7 a.m. for hotel guests, but from our experience, we've noticed the app drops more reservations right around 7:20 a.m.

Hi Karen!

You should still be able to link your booking/confirmation number the same way that you would for a Disney hotel reservation. (Check out our My Disney Experience guide to find out how to link a hotel reservation.) Since it's a partner hotel, it may take a few days to show up.

I am not staying on property but I have the app and Genie+ and a park reservation and a ticket for Hollywood to ride Star Wars Rise of the Resistance - can I buy the Lightning Lane option? Or do I just have the opportunity for a boarding pass at 7 am since I am not at a Disney hotel?

Hi Abby!

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is an individual Lightning Lane selection, so you'll need to purchase separately — you can have both Genie+ and two (different) individual Lightning Lane selections each day. Since you are not staying on property, you'll be able to purchase the Rise of the Resistance pass once Hollywood Studios opens, but you can make your first Genie+ reservation at 7 a.m. Hope this helps!

Hi,

How or where do we activate our magic bands? We have our tickets, reservations and accommodations made. Also set up my My Disney experience app on our phones. We were told we can use our magic bands from a previous trip ( 2015).

Thanks

Hi Julie!

Since you're using a previous MagicBand, it may already be linked. But you can double check that it is activated by logging in to your Disney/My Disney Experience account via desktop (rather than the app). In the dropdown menu that says My Disney Experience, scroll down to the option "My MagicBands and Cards." From there, you can manage existing MagicBands to see if they're activated, or you can link a MagicBand if not activated. Hope this helps!

Since both Genie+ and LL can be booked at 7am (we will be staying on property) can my husband book the one while I book the other for both of us? We both have the app and are linked. I assume time is of the essence booking your G+ and LL rides so I was hoping we could do it at once. Have you tried that? Does it make sense? If you can’t, then which would make sense to book first? Thanks for the help!

Hi Terri!

Since Genie+ and the individual Lightning Lane selections have separate reservation systems for rides, you should be able to get them at the same time through your different accounts as long as you're linked (which you've stated that you are!).

Hi we have purchased Disney tickets with genie plus added. I have downloaded the Disney app and added the tickets but can’t see how we use the genie plus? Is it just added on? I’ve found it all very confusing to be honest.

Hi Amy!

We'd suggest double-checking that, when you go into "Tickets and Passes" on My Disney Experience, your tickets should indicate that Genie+ is included. You won't be able to do anything with Genie+ until the day(s) of your visit, but if you tickets state Genie+ is included, you'll be good to go. If your tickets do not have Genie+ included, then we'd recommend updating the app to the latest version, and if that doesn't work, then you should be able modify your tickets within the app. Hope this helps!

Jan 31, 2022 at 4:02 p.m. FrogBlog Says...

Hi Jimmer!

If you go into My Disney Experience under "Tickets and Passes" (on the app) or "My Plans" (on the website via computer) & switch from "Daily Itinerary" to "Tickets and Memory Maker," you should be able to view your tickets and see a little pencil icon or a way to edit your tickets. If so, you can upgrade to Genie+ (for the length of your entire ticket). It'll give you the price to upgrade and you can do so right in the app! If you want to add Genie+ on a la carte, then you can do so the day you'll be visiting within the app for $15 per person, per day. Hope this helps, but let us know if you have any more questions!

If we want to purchase an individual lighting lane pass for the adults and 6 yo to ride an attraction, and do rider swap so the 4 yo doesn’t have to ride it, do we still have to make an individual lightning lane purchase for the 4 yo to be in line with us?

Hi! Am I correct in my understanding that DAS guests will be unable to receive return windows for any ride that is now a “pay per ride individual lightning lane” ride? Meaning, their only option is to “pay” to ride it or wait in the full queue?

Reply
Oct 20, 2021 at 8:14 a.m. FrogBlog Says...

Hi Molly!

No, DAS is still available for those rides. The process essentially works the same as before. Starting Nov. 1, Disney Genie is introducing the ability to get return times through the app (versus having to get a return time from the cast member at the ride entrance). The individual Lightning Lane selections cannot be reserved in advance via this DAS Advance option, but you can get a return time in person on the day of your visit.

To MOLLY COOK's question about DAS, WDW have listed selected attractions that DAS users can pick from. I do not see the rides listed that are part of LL Individual Attraction Selection list like Frozen Ever After, Space Mountain, Expedition Everest, etc. So her comment that the only option is to “pay” to ride it or wait in the full queue is true for DAS users?

Hi Jason!

DAS is still available for the high-demand rides on the individual Lightning Lane selections list, such as Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Space Mountain, etc. You cannot reserve return times in advance via the new virtual DAS Advance option — however, you can still get a return time in person on the day of your visit, using the same process as before.

2 questions. 1). I purchased my tix already thru Undercover Tourist. Do I have to wait until Midnight before my park visit to download both the Genie & Genie+ apps? 2). I have a My Disney Experience account set up and have linked in my park passes, but I have not yet downloaded to my iPhone. Can you send me a list of steps for how to download the My Disney Experience And Genie/Genie+ apps? Thank you!

Reply
Oct 21, 2021 at 5:46 p.m. FrogBlog Says...

Hi Sasha!

1) Disney Genie can be found directly in the My Disney Experience app (this is the only app you need for Genie/Genie+), so once you've been able to download the My Disney Experience app, you can access Disney Genie. As for the Genie+ add-on, you can purchase it through the app starting at midnight on the day(s) of your trip (but it is not necessary to stay up to purchase it then). We'd suggest waking up about 10 minutes before 7 a.m. to purchase Genie+ for the day so you have it all ready for the 7 a.m. selection time so you can make your first Genie+ reservation.

2) To download the My Disney Experience app on your phone, navigate to your phone's app store, search for "My Disney Experience" and download it. First, log in to your My Disney Experience account. On the bottom of the app, you should see an icon with three lines all the way to the right corner — this navigates to main menu. Select "My Day" and then select "Get Disney Genie+ Service" in the purple box.

Will the app suggest order and timing to go on the rides based on Genie/Genie+/LL and ride preference selections? We have a family of 4 with 2 teenagers who each have their own cell phone. Does the whole family's Genie/Genie+/LL get lumped together on one person's app? Or can everyone do their own selections in their own app? I hope we'll be able to use our Magic Bands to scan for the rides instead of our phones. An average park visit is about 9+ hours in a day and many batteries with moderate to heavy use will be quickly depleted in less than that time. I know mine, being an older phone, will only last for the first half of the day and I would spend the rest of the day looking for an outlet and having to wait for it to recharge. We wouldn’t be able to ride many rides. Carrying a portable charger would be difficult since it would only be myself and my 9-year-old daughter. Also, the signal in the park during peak times isn’t always reliable. Also, my daughter thinks they should have named one of the Lightening rounds something different. Too confusing.

Hi. I’m not sure you’ve seen the portable battery banks lately. They fit in your hand, then you’d just need a charging cord. They’re INVALUABLE on park days. Even with a new phone, my battery still depletes. I take a lot of pictures with mine, plus using the app. Definitely worth having. (I made the mistake of taking a pic of my parking spot once and my phone had died by the end of the day. We had to stop and charge somewhere before finding the car ????‍♀️ I bring a backpack, so definitely no space issues for a little battery bank. But one would also just as easily fit in a Fanny-pack. But, like you, I’d also prefer to just tap my magic band upon arrival at the ride. ????
