FAQs
- Do I need to book extras right when I pay for the cruise? Nope, but as soon as your booking window opens, it's time to hop on the highest-demand experiences such as specialty dining, spa appointments and Port Adventures.
- What if I don’t book everything ahead of time? Can I still do things onboard? Yes. Some activities, such as casual dining, onboard entertainment and most Oceaneer Club sessions, can be enjoyed onboard with no reservations needed.
- Will there be unexpected expenses on top of my cruise fare? Depends on your cruise style. While many meals and activities are included, extras such as excursions, signature dining, spa services, nursery care and beverage seminars cost extra.

How to Book Disney Cruise Reservations
Before we hop into the nitty-gritty of when to book what, let’s take a moment to dream about all the fun waiting for you on a Disney cruise. These ships are floating playgrounds, each filled with unique entertainment, dining and splashy fun — which is exactly why a little advance planning goes a long way. There's so much to enjoy and you don't want to waste precious vacation time trying to figure out how to brunch at Palo.
Each ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet offers its own experiences and activity schedule. As an example, the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny features the AquaMouse, “Disney’s first attraction at sea." Over on the Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream, families can soar through the sky on the AquaDuck water coaster.
The Disney Wonder and Disney Magic are smaller, more intimate ships perfect for young families and first-time cruisers. Some ships have dinner entertainment, others lean into Marvel, princesses or nostalgic animation, but all deliver that signature Disney storytelling from bow to stern.
Then there’s the fun that happens off the ship. Disney Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, is packed with family adventures, snorkeling, private cabanas and the ahhh-mazing floating Pelican Plunge water park — all highlighted in our Castaway Cay guide. If you’re sailing to Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, you’ll find vibrant Bahamian culture, beachside activities and excursions unique to the island. Not to mention all the adventures you'll find at other exciting ports of call around the world!
And that's only the start! As far as what you'll want to book in advance, here's a short list depending on your cruise style:
- Nursery time for the littlest tadpoles
- Select character meet-and-greets such as the Royal Gathering
- Adults-only specialty dining
- Adult-only spaces and activities
- Spa and salon appointments
- Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and Pirates League makeovers
- And so much more!
All of these can shape your itinerary, budget and booking strategy, which is exactly what we're here to cover.
Understanding Booking Windows and Why They Matter
On a Disney cruise, all extras are reserved based on a specified booking window. Think of these windows like jumping from one lily pad to the next — timing matters. On a Disney cruise, when you’re allowed to reserve extras (Port Adventures, spa treatments, adult-exclusive dining, nursery time, etc.) depends entirely on when your booking window opens. Hop in early and you’ll have the pick of the pond; hop in late and … well … the good stuff might already be booked up.
Your booking window is determined by your Castaway Club status — that little loyalty badge you earn once you’ve sailed with Disney Cruise Line at least once. Understanding your status and window helps you plan your Disney cruise reservations efficiently! The more you cruise, the higher your tier. And the higher your tier, the earlier you get access to book all the fun extras.
First-timer? Your booking window opens at midnight 75 days before your sail date. Mark it on your calendar and set a reminder on your phone. You can thank us later! ;)
Castaway Club Tiers and Booking Windows
These are the current official booking windows based on Disney Cruise Line's Castaway Club levels:
- First-Time Guests (0 completed sailings): 75 days before sailing
- Silver Members (1 completed sailing): 90 days before sailing
- Gold Members (5 completed sailings): 105 days before sailing
- Platinum Members (10 completed sailings): 120 days before sailing
- Pearl Members (25 or more completed sailings) & Concierge: 123 days before sailing
Each level also comes with perks like welcome-back gifts, priority check-in (on select itineraries), member phone support and early access to new itineraries — all of which get sweeter as you move up.
How to Make Reservations for Your Disney Cruise
- Your cruise must be paid in full before your booking window unlocks. Even if your window technically opens earlier, you won’t be able to book your activities until your balance is cleared.
- If multiple guests share a stateroom, the highest Castaway Club level in the room sets the booking window for the entire group.
- Once your booking window opens, you can make reservations online (once you're logged into your Disney Cruise Line account) or on the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app.
- Don't sleep on your booking window — when it comes to Disney cruise reservations, the early frog really does get the fly! We recommend having both your computer and phone ready to go at midnight, the day your booking window opens, so you'll be ready to snag those coveted reservations ASAP!
Why This Timing Really Matters
- High-demand activities fill up fast. We're talking the Castaway Cay or Lookout Cay cabanas, Royal Court Royal Tea, specialty dining, adult-exclusive spa treatments and popular Port Adventures.
- More time slots = more flexibility. Early access means you can schedule experiences around sea days, dinner rotations or naps (for little tadpoles and grown-ups alike).
- It reduces pre-cruise stress. When you book early, you board with a plan, not with wishful thinking.
Prioritizing Your Disney Cruise Reservations — What to Book First
Once your booking window opens, there are a handful of experiences you’ll want to prioritize. These are the ones that tend to fill first.
Specialty Dining and Adult-Only Experiences
- Palo, Palo Steakhouse, Remy and Enchanté — These adult-exclusive restaurants fill quickly, especially on sea days and formal nights. Booking early ensures you get the preferred time and day.
- Senses Spa treatments and salon appointments — from massages to facials, these appointments can disappear fast on sea days. Consider pairing treatments with an adult-only evening or a specialty dining reservation.
- Beverage tastings and mixology classes — Onboard experiences like cocktail tastings and mixology classes book quickly, especially for evening sessions or limited-capacity classes.
Port Adventures and Private Cabana Experiences
Port Adventures — Popular excursions at ports of call often sell out within minutes. If you’re eyeing something specific, such as snorkeling, guided tours or private tours, you'll want to reserve as soon as possible. Don’t forget about private cabanas on Castaway Cay or Lookout Cay, which can provide a peaceful retreat with beachside service, but require early booking.
Tadpole Experiences and Special Reservations
- "it’s a small world!" nursery — For children 6 months to 3 years old, this is a must for parents planning adults-only meals or activities. Pricing is $9 per hour for the first child and $8 per hour for additional children, with a one-hour minimum. Spaces fill quickly, especially during peak meal times and sea days, so booking as soon as your window opens is recommended. More details can be found in our "it's a small world!" nursery guide.
- Royal Gathering - If meeting your favorite Disney Princesses is high on your list of priorities, then the Royal Gathering is a must-book experience. This event allows guests to meet several Disney princesses at once, at no additional cost. However, reservations are required and they go quicker than you can say "your highness." But take note: the Royal Gathering booking window opens 30 days before your sail date for everyone, regardless of your Castaway Club level. Set another reminder on your phone!
- Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and Pirates League makeovers — Transform your little ones into princesses, pirates or knights. These experiences book up fast, especially on sea days and Pirate Night when Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is transformed into the Pirates League with exclusive pirate-themed transformations only offered once per sailing.
- Royal Court Royal Tea and Olaf’s Royal Picnic — Afternoon tea with Disney royalty or select Olaf-themed dining experiences are available on many sailings for an additional cost and require advanced reservations.
- Marvel Day at Sea & Pixar Day at Sea experiences — On Marvel Day at Sea sailings, reservations for Heroic Encounters are required. These experiences are often limited in capacity, so book as early as your window allows. We anticipate there to be similar meet and greets on Pixar Day at Sea sailings beginning January 2026.
What To Do If You Can't Get a Reservation
Let's say you hop on to book right at the start of your booking window and your primary reservation is already gone — don't stress! Keep checking regularly, and don't be afraid to call Disney Cruise Line for assistance. For most activities, they also hold some spots back for onboard booking, so it may be possible to book once you board the ship.
For example, if you missed out on a Palo brunch reservation, head straight to Guest Services or Palo when you board the ship and inquire about any openings during your sailing. You can even be asked to be placed on a waitlist (we've had great luck with this!). And if you still can't score that reservation, then be like Elsa and just let it go! Trust me, there is plenty to do onboard!
Things That Don't Require Early Booking
Not every magical moment on a Disney cruise needs a reservation. In fact, one of the joys of sailing is hopping from activity to activity without a strict schedule. Here are experiences you can enjoy without stressing about early bookings.
Casual Dining and Treats
- Poolside and buffet dining — From morning breakfast to casual lunches, most of the casual dining is first-come, first-served. Enjoy Mickey waffles or grab a quick burger while the kids splash nearby.
- Ice cream and snack stations — Perfect for a spontaneous treat or quick pick-me-up between activities.
- Sweet Shops and Cafes — On the Disney Dream, Fantasy, Wish, Treasure and Destiny, you'll find dedicated sweet shops and cafes (on all ships) with no need to make reservations. Just pop in and order when you've got a sweet tooth or need a little caffeine. There is a small extra fee for specialty desserts and coffees.
- Animation classes, trivia and craft workshops — Most of these onboard activities allow drop-in participation, giving you flexibility to join whenever it fits your day.
- Character meet-and-greets — Walk-up opportunities abound, especially in common areas and atriums. Keep an eye on the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app for locations and times.
- Family-friendly entertainment — Stage shows, movie screenings, deck parties, and the occasional themed game show are typically included in your fare and require no reservations.
Kids and Teens Clubs
- Disney Oceaneer Club and Lab — For ages 3–12, kids can explore, play and make friends in these themed spaces. Operating hours are listed in the DCL Navigator app, including open house hours for everyone.
- Edge and Vibe — Tweens and teens have spaces designed just for them, with games, movies and social events. When open, tweens and teens can pop in as they please.
Unique Experiences Without Early Reservations
- Deck parties and fireworks viewings — Evening events are open to all guests; no need to reserve a spot — just find your favorite vantage point and enjoy. For front row viewing, we suggest arriving early.
- Pools, waterslides and splash zones — These areas are typically open throughout the day and early evening, so you can hop in whenever the mood strikes.
