Inside This Post Inside This Post

You long-time frog fans know Tad as our official Frog Family videographer. While he toadally enjoys making ride videos for our YouTube channel, he really has set his sights on becoming the next Spielberg. For him, it doesn't get any better than Universal Studios Hollywood. It's a thrill for him to be "on location" inside the theme park that just so hoppens to be where "Back to the Future" and "Psycho" were filmed. And we know he's not the only one who's excited to visit! With the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and more family-friendly attractions, this theme park/working studio sure is more hopping than ever! Plus, we get to explore Super Nintendo World. Woohoo! Whether you have a filmmaker in your family or you're just a bunch of fun-seekers, it helps to know not only what to expect when visiting Universal Studios Hollywood, but also, when to plan your trip in 2024 and 2025. And, action!

Planning When to Visit Universal Studios Hollywood in 2024 and 2025

While there is no reservation system in place at Universal Studios Hollywood, tickets are date-based, effectively limiting capacity each day through the number of tickets sold.

That means it's important to purchase your tickets ahead of time so that your preferred dates aren't sold out. And one other piece of advice: During our recent trips, Express Passes have become more useful than ever in maximizing our time at the park. Much like admission, it's best to purchase your Express Passes in advance (they can sell out, and more so, the advanced online price is usually the lowest). Psst ... Undercover Tourist can save you some green on your tickets, as well as Express Pass and VIP Experience!

Best Times to Visit Universal Studios Hollywood-Early Access uncrowded view

Another hopful tool for people who want to get the most out of their visit to Super Nintendo World is Early Access. You can purchase this add-on separately from your theme park admission, but you must have theme park admission to use the Early Access ticket. No matter when you visit, this ticket gets you into Super Nintendo World an hour before the park opens, allowing you to access all the challenges with short lines and Mario Kart with the shortest line of the day. Then, at park opening, you can use our Universal Studios Hollywood park plan to maximize time for the rest of the park.

Undercover Tourist's #1 ranked Crowd Calendar will show you projected crowd levels, events taking place and even the average weather, all in one place!

Our Los Angeles Crowd Calendar is the best tool to help you get a day-by-day look at expected crowds a full year in advance. If your particular dates are not listed, jump down to the comments below and ask. We frogs will be hoppy to answer. We've got a similar post devoted to the best times to visit Disneyland if you hoppen to be planning visits to both. (Now, if only we could predict travel times on those SoCal highways!) Other Factors to Consider When Determining the Best Time to Visit Universal Studios Hollywood

If you’re used to visiting Universal Orlando Resort rather than the Hollywood original, know that there are some differences. The best times to visit Universal Studios Hollywood in 2024 and 2025 aren't necessarily the same ones at Universal Orlando.

The biggest difference is the locals. Universal Orlando has locals, but not nearly as many as those in the Los Angeles regional area. More and more of these locals are annual passholders, who think nothing of popping in for a pint of Butterbeer after the end of a long week. A lot of passholders visit on Saturdays, so that may influence you to visit during the week if you can.

While the regional passholders have a large influence on crowds, it's not all doom and gloom. Many passholders have blackout times during the times most popular with tourists — mostly summer, spring break and the holidays, but also a few weekends here and there. Looking at Universal's passholder blackout calendars gives you a fairly good idea of the very busiest dates of the year. This is because these are the times when most of the passholders are not allowed to enter.

Other major contributing factors include school breaks, special events such as Halloween Horror Nights and the holidays and big openings. In 2025, an all-new event is coming to Universal Studios Hollywood. From the creators of Halloween Horror Nights, in spring 2025, fans can enter the worlds of their favorite genres in an all-new way at Universal Fan Fest Nights. This separately ticketed after hours event will feature immersive experiences, in-park activations and themed food and beverage around some of your favorite games, movies and more. Confirmed for this inaugural event are Star Trek, Dungeons and Dragons and Back to the Future. And beyond 2025, a new "Fast & Furious"-themed roller coaster is currently under construction and is set to open in 2026. When this one opens, consider it a family reunion — with lots of people wanting to ride!

Fall — August, September, October

Best Times to Visit Universal Studios Hollywood - HHN Scareactor

Highlights

Bring on your worst nightmares. Halloween Horror Nights is the biggest event of the year at Universal Studios Hollywood. Terror unleashes inside the park with elaborate haunted houses, scare zones and the Studio Tour's transformation into the Terror Tram.

Things to Consider

Something to keep in mind if you visit weekends in September and October is Halloween Horror Nights. This separately ticketed event takes place after park hours on select nights. If you visit during the day on those days, you'll see more crowds coming in starting at 2 p.m. The parks may close earlier than usual by about 6 p.m. Hop over to our guide to Halloween Horror Nights in Hollywood to learn more.

Best Times to Visit Universal Studios Hollywood-Scary props during the day in the fall.

Even though the scareactors and haunted houses are not open until Halloween Horror Nights begin, some scary props and skeletons are out during the day. Just be aware if you are bringing sensitive small children with you in the fall.

  • Rosh Hashanah - Oct. 2-4, 2024, and Sept. 22-24, 2025
  • Yom Kippur (when it falls on a weekday) - Oct. 11, 2024, and Oct. 1-2, 2025
  • Indigenous Peoples' Day - Oct. 14, 2024, and Oct. 13, 2025
  • Utah and Arizona fall breaks during the first half of October

The park is not as busy during the day in the fall, as most crowds come for Halloween Horror Nights. But watch out for the park closing at 6 p.m. for the after-hours event. That means arriving early in the morning to accomplish everything in a shorter period of time.

Also, note the weather. While other places start to cool down, things are just getting heated up in Los Angeles in August and September. Hot summer weather can extend into early October. So dress accordingly and seek out the soak zone at WaterWorld if you need to cool off. Bring swimsuits and water shoes for the tadpoles to enjoy the water play area in Super Silly Fun Land.

Our Overall Pick: The second half of August and early September (minus the days around Labor Day weekend) sees low crowds as the tadpoles hop back to school.

Least Busy

  • Weekdays during the last two weeks of August
  • First half of September (minus days around Labor Day); Tuesdays through Thursdays for the remainder of September

Busiest

  • First half of August
  • Labor Day Weekend
    • Aug. 29 - Sept. 1, 2025
  • October 2024
  • Elevated crowds from Sept. 22 to Oct. 31, 2025

Winter — November, December, January

Best Times to Visit Universal Studios Hollywood - The Grinch

'Tis the season to spread Who-liday cheer ... the crowds may be here, but have no fear! While yes, Universal Studios Hollywood can see its busiest weeks of the year around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's, it's a magical sight to see Hogsmeade decked out in garland and celebrate with Who-ville citizens.

Highlights

The Holidays at Universal Studios Hollywood is the main highlight as the season typically kicks off the day after Thanksgiving. Universal is decorated with colorful lights, bows, ornaments and more. Plus, you even get the chance to meet the Grinch and his dog, Max!

Things to Consider

Aside from the major holidays, there are a couple other small holidays to keep in mind:

  • Veterans Day (Nov. 11 — a Monday in 2024 and a Tuesday in 2025)
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 15, 2024, and Jan. 20, 2025)

During the first half of December, weekends may have more people than during the week, but crowd levels are not as bad as during the big holiday week between Christmas and New Year's. Plus, the park also has longer hours and more evening entertainment on weekends.

Our Overall Pick: If the holiday festivities are a must for you, we'd recommend the first week or two of December, which is right before the majority of schools are out for holiday breaks. However, if visiting during the lowest crowds is the bigger priority, January is best.

Least Busy

  • January
    • Weekdays in January (minus the week of New Year's Day and the days around Martin Luther King Jr. Day)
    • Jan. 7-15, 21-31, 2025
  • November (minus the week of Thanksgiving and the days around Veterans Day)
  • First half of December

Busiest

  • The week of New Year's Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day
    • Jan. 1-6, 17-20, 2025
  • Veterans Day
    • Nov. 8-11, 2024
    • Nov. 11, 2025
  • Week of Thanksgiving
    • Nov. 22 - Dec. 1, 2024
    • Nov. 22-30, 2025
  • Week of Christmas and New Year's
    • Dec. 21-31, 2024
    • Dec. 20, 2025, to Jan. 4, 2026

Spring — February, March, April

Best Time to Visit Universal Studios Hollywood - Wizards

Highlights

While Lunar New Year is an understated event at Universal Studios Hollywood, you can enjoy special decor, food and beverage options in the park from late January through February. You can purchase Lunar New Year merchandise in the gift shops. Celebrate by taking a photo with characters, such as Hello Kitty, dressed in their Lunar New Year best.

During select spring break weeks, you may experience Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle. The projection show usually returns for evenings during spring break. Like we mentioned earlier, spring 2025 will bring the first-ever Universal Fan Fest Nights event — stay tuned for more details!

Things to Consider

The fall of Easter impacts Universal crowds in the spring. Some school districts base their spring break around Easter; others do not. When Easter falls earlier in the season, in March or early April, it has the effect of making a more intense, but shorter spring break season. In 2025, Easter hoppens April 20, so this spring break season will be longer. Many California universities consistently have spring break at the end of March, which can affect crowds then.

Our Overall Pick: First week of March or second half of April

Least Busy

  • February
    • Weekdays in February (minus the days around Presidents Day)
    • Feb. 1-13, 18-28, 2025
  • First week of March
    • March 1-6, 2025
  • Second half of April
    • April 21-30, 2025

Busiest

  • Presidents Day Weekend
    • Feb. 10-17, 2025
  • Spring Break
    • March 7 - April 6, 2025 & April 18-20, 2025 (Easter)

Summer — May, June, July

Best Time to Go to Universal Studios Hollywood - Jurassic World

Highlights

Summer break unofficially begins with Memorial Day weekend and crowds remain steady until back-to-school season. There aren't any major events, but Universal has some low-key celebrations for Grad Bash, Pride Month and Fourth of July. The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle show returns for select nights of summer, usually mid-June to mid-August.

Things to Consider

May and June are the cooler and more comfortable summer months to visit, with "May Gray" and "June Gloom" morning clouds keeping the park from heating up too much. Temperatures rise in sunny July. Park hours are long once summer hits, so you have time to get it all done.

Our Overall Pick: Weekdays in May

Least Busy

  • Weekdays in May (minus days around Memorial Day)
  • First half of June

Busiest

  • Weekends in May (particularly Memorial Day weekend)
  • Second half of June
  • July

What If I'm Visiting During a Busy Time?

We toadally understand that many families may not have the flexibility and can only visit during these busier times. Don't worry! Ultimately, the best time to go is when you can go. The good news is that busier times also bring longer park hours and more entertainment. The most important thing you can do is set realistic expectations and use our tips and tools to manage the crowds and maximize your time. During busier times, consider purchasing Universal Express tickets and/or Early Access tickets to get a jump on the crowds. If they're not in the budget, then make sure to arrive early before the park officially opens. And be sure to check out our Universal Studios Hollywood park plan for our recommended 1-day itinerary.

So there you have it — our recommended times to visit Universal Studios Hollywood in 2024 and 2025! If you can't avoid visiting during a busy time, don't sweat it! We have a ton more hopful tips and resources to help you save time waiting in line and plan a great trip.

We are planning to go to Universal the second to last week of August, which according to your calendar, looks to be a good time. Is it better to take advantage of the buy one, get one free day ticket offer or just go for one day with the express pass? We also plan to purchase an early entry pass to Mario Land. Thanks!

Hi JMarc!

We'd say whichever works best for your schedule and preferences. If you'd want a slower pace and not feel as rushed, you may want to opt for two days. But if you want to maximize your time with Express by not waiting longer in lines, go for Express. If saving money is a priority, we'd suggest comparing the extra cost you'd spend on Express vs. a second day of meals/snacks, transportation (whether it's parking or ride-share fees) and/or hotel costs (if you'd opt to spend an extra night in the area).

Hi there, so my family and I want to visit universal studios for the Mario bros land due to my smaller children. And I was wondering we want to either go for the end of June, mid beginning of July or end of July not sure which one is best but which one do you recommend that won’t be as packed I wasn’t planning on doing rides or going to the cafe there I just wanted to let them see the land

Hi Jackie!

Out of those options, we would go with end of July. It might still be busy with summer crowds, but it's more toward the end of the summer season (as early to mid-August is when kids start going back to school) as opposed to right in the middle of peak summertime.

Aloha from Hawaii! Your site has been so helpful with planning our trip to CA in Oct. We're planning to go universal on Oct 11 or 13. They both close early for HHN. We're not going to HHN. Do you think we'll have enough time to do all the rides if we're there from 9am-til closing? ( what time do they usually close for HHN?) What day will be better (less crowded), the 11th or 13th? Thanks so much in advance!

Aloha Rebecca!

Friday will likely be less crowded as Sunday is the day before a holiday. The park usually closes at 6 p.m. but you can likely get it all done. We also recommend looking into the Early Access ticket, which gets you into Super Nintendo World an hour before the park officially opens. You can crank out Super Nintendo World in that hour (apart from dining), and then go hit the other attractions at park opening with very short lines. You can purchase that Early Access ticket from Universal Studios Hollywood separately from your park admission.

Hi,

We are a french family, coming this summer for a road trip in west US. We plan a visit in Universal studios Hollywood, and your blog is really helpful, thanks for this work! We will be in LA on August and on week-end... we can't change our dates, and we can't afford the express pas... (all the trip is already a big budget ;) ) We know that we will have to arrive early, that's not a problem. So, the question is: what will be the best day (the less crowded...) Saturday August 10th or Sunday August 11st??

Thanks for your answer!

Hi Emeline!

Sunday is usually less crowded than Saturday, so we would recommend Aug. 11. While Express may be out of the budget, you may want to consider the Early Access ticket if Super Nintendo World is important. It's a lower price point than Express that gets you into Super Nintendo World an hour before the park opens and also includes Express access to the Studio Tour. You can get ahead of the crowds this way. (The ticket is sold directly through Universal.)

Hi Gloria!

If Express Pass fits within your budget, we would recommend it as that time is usually the start of summer vacations. If you want to consider a more budget-friendly option, we would highly recommend the Early Access tickets, particularly if you're interested in Super Nintendo World and do not get Express, as that allows you to visit one of the most popular areas with the lowest crowds, and then you can hit the Lower Lot rides right at park open with low lines.

Hello! I have a trip organized from May 11 to 14. I was thinking of going on the 13th which is Monday and looking at your calendar of influx appears to me that it is a better day than Sunday 12 (Mother's Day) even so, I wanted to know if it is advisable to buy the express pass for that day or not, I do not know if investing 100 dollars would be appropriate, I go alone and many rows I can do as a single rider. I would also like to ask you if you know what time the park closes on the 13th since the May calendar is not yet available on Universal's website and I would like to go on a day that is open more hours and not only until six in the afternoon. Thank you very much

Hi Miriam!

If you're going alone and doing Single Rider lines, then you can get by without Express either day. However, we would highly recommend the Early Access ticket, particularly if Super Nintendo World is important to you. That's when the lines for the interactive challenges are shortest, though Mario Kart does offer a Single Rider line. The Early Access ticket also gives you a single-use Express Pass for the Studio Tour to use before 11 a.m. This line might be longer than usual for the Studio Tour's 60th Anniversary, so it could be a great perk for getting the Early Access ticket. We don't know the park hours until they're posted, but if it follows a similar schedule to April, we'd expect that Sunday would be open later.

Hi Pippa!

Either way, 1 day with Express or 2 days without Express, you should be able to get through everything (it's not a big park!). It is a peak time as summer ramps up, so you may encounter long lines. Ultimately, it's up to whether you want to prioritize cutting down wait times with Express or sticking to a lower budget (and you wouldn't mind waiting in longer lines). Also something to think about when comparing prices — if you go for a second day, you would be spending money on another day of meals and parking (or ride share expenses), so take those extra expenses into account with the 2-Day ticket price.

We r plan ing on going to Universal studios at the later part of April or mid May. What is the most cost efficient hotel to stay at? Willing to drive up to 30-40mins for a better rate with a nicer hotel. Does any of the parks or hotels offer a Veterans discount? Also, I am a above knee amputee..is their going to be any restrictions on rides for me? I usually bring a wheelchair and prosthetic leg just in case there is a issue. None so far at DL. WDW, 6 FLAGS & KNOTTS. BUT u never know. The 4 aĺ the help and ideas. U all are amazing

Hi Rebecca!

Check out our post about hotels nearby Universal Studios Hollywood - it may be helpful as a starting point! Universal Studios Hollywood does offer military discount ticket options, but they must be purchased at a Military Ticket Office (not available online or at the ticket windows). As for ride safety, you can refer to the full accessibility guide for specific details, but for most rides, at least one leg should extend to the edge of the seat. For Jurassic World, Revenge of the Mummy and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, both legs (natural or prosthetic) must extend to the edge of the seat or terminate below the knee. But as long as the prosthetic is secured, it should be OK to ride.

Hoppy planning!

Hi Melissa!

With many schools going on spring break as early as next week, we'd recommend this Friday over Monday — and we do recommend Early Access for Super Nintendo World! Wait times today have been relatively low so far, though Friday may see more crowds as it's closer to the weekend. You can check out expected crowd levels on our Crowd Calendar to help make a decision about Express. You could also wait to upgrade in the park if you change your mind, though keep in mind it's subject to availability.

Hi Rachel!

We expect the second half of April to be a good time to visit as it's right after Easter and the spring break season. Even better, you'll be visiting on a weekday, so Express is optional. If Super Nintendo World is a top priority, we would, however, still recommend the Early Access tickets, as the land stays busy all day. And if you do happen to change your mind, you can upgrade to Express inside the park as long as there's availability.

Hi Rodrigo!

If you're planning to stay late, watch the wait time in the app and hit the Mario Kart ride later in the day. Make sure you know the park closing time so you give yourself plenty of time in the land. If you can be one of the first (aside from Early Access guests) in the land, you can do Mario Kart first and grab a Toadstool Cafe reservation, and then come back later for the challenges. But if you're walking in the park even a little bit after opening, save Super Nintendo World for later. Everyone heads there first. We do have a Super Nintendo World guide, as well as park plans and a blog post about maximizing your time at Universal that may be helpful as you plan your day!

Hi Gigi!

We do not know park hours just yet, as the calendar only goes through Dec. 31, 2023, as of writing this. But it will be a holiday weekend, so the hours may be longer than normal. If Super Nintendo World is a priority, we would recommend getting the Early Access ticket and then ride all the Lower Lot rides in the morning. The Early Access ticket comes with Express access for the Studio Tour up until 11 a.m. too. So you may be able to get by without Express for rides in the Upper Lot, but you can likely upgrade in the park if you feel like you need it.

Hi Priyanka!

The week between Christmas and New Year's is one of the busier weeks of the year, so pricing and crowd levels will be consistent the entire week. If it's within your budget, we would recommend Universal Express tickets to help maximize your time.

As for annual passes, there are four tiers: Platinum, Gold, Silver and CA Neighbor Pass. While ultimately it depends on how often you plan to go, we recommend Platinum or Gold, since those passes include free general parking as a benefit (you could save so much on parking alone if you go often). Platinum and Gold also provide a 15% discount on most food and merch. Keep in mind that Platinum has unlimited access year-round, while Gold, Silver and CA Neighbor Pass have blackout dates (different amount of blackout dates for each tier). Other notable benefits exclusive to the Platinum Pass include Express access after 3 p.m. to participating attractions and a free Halloween Horror Nights ticket, so if those are of any interest to you, we'd recommend Platinum.

Hi Agnes!

The Express Pass would only grant access to the land itself if a virtual queue is in use, so we'd only suggest it specifically for Super Nintendo World if you're visiting on a busy day during which capacity for the entire land may be limited. The ride, Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge, is not included with the Express Pass. If you want to skip the standby line for Mario Kart, the VIP Experience is the only way to do that.

There is a third option with the Early Access tickets, which grant one-hour early access into Super Nintendo World. You would use the regular standby line for Mario Kart, but you can get a jump on the crowds. If you want to know more about any of these options, hop over to our post about accessing Super Nintendo World.

Hi Anna!

March 31 is Easter in 2024, and it's a busy time during spring break season. Normal wait times can reach up to 120 minutes for the most popular rides. Having Express tickets will definitely help you out to maximize your time, as they're designed to cut the wait time in half (or even less). If Super Nintendo World is a top priority, we'd also recommend the Early Access tickets, if possible, to get a jump on the crowds in the land early on.

Hi Antonio!

Since you'll be utilizing single rider lines and Super Nintendo World early access, we don't think Express is a must-have. Generally, weekdays during November (with the exception of Thanksgiving Week and Veterans Day) have lower crowds. Hop over to our Crowd Calendar for specific crowd levels. And if you get there and change your mind, you can upgrade to Express at the park.

Hi Kathy!

We expect crowds to be moderate on those days (hop over to our Crowd Calendar for expected crowd levels). So Universal Express would be nice to have, but not an absolute necessity. And if you change your mind once you're at the park, you can upgrade to Express. We would, however, recommend the Early Access ticket, especially since you'll be focusing on Super Nintendo World. The extra hour in the morning makes a huge difference in getting a jump on the crowds in the land.

We would suggest going on a non-HHN day, which would be sometime between either Sept. 11-13 or 18-20. Since Halloween Horror Nights starts Sept. 7, you might see some decorations out, but they are minimal and do not cover the whole park.

Is it worth it to get the express pass and Early access to nintendo world?

We are coming on October 12 ( thursday) and its a halloween horror night. Our kids are 10 I think the halloween night is too scary for them so Im not sure we will buy the night so will they kick us out at 5pm? There is some literature saying we might be able to go to one land until 7 on halloween night? Is that true or will they start rounding us up at 4:30 to kick us out at 5?

If we are kicked out I think doing express is needed early in the day. And possibly nintendo too? There is so much more info on orlando than hollywood. its challenging to figure it all out.

Hi Liz!

Since it's a holiday week (close to Columbus/Indigenous Peoples' Day) and also a popular time for fall breaks, we would suggest getting Express and Early Access to do it all within the short hours. Once the park closes, which may be at 6 p.m. (October hours have not been posted yet), you will need to leave the park.

Will it be better to visit Universal Studios on Saturday, June 17 or Sunday, June 18? I am debating on a yearly pass, is it worth it. What are the best places to stay in the area?

Reply

FrogBlog Says...

Hi Connie!

Since Universal Studios Hollywood tends to draw large crowds on the weekends, both June 17 and June 18 will be equally crowded. Usually, Sunday mornings are less busy than Saturdays, however, Father’s Day falls on June 18 this year. Due to this, the park may be even more busy on that Sunday. If you’re trying to determine whether or not the annual pass is worthwhile, it’s important to consider how many times a year you will realistically visit the park. One step above the Silver Pass, the Gold Pass is the lowest-tier annual pass that includes general parking. If you visit just a few times, this pass will pay itself off. Some of the best accommodations in the area include The Hilton Universal City, which is within walking distance of the park and has very comfortable rooms. Loews Hollywood Hotel is another viable option if you want to be near other Hollywood landmarks, such as the Chinese Theater, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum and the Walk of Fame. For a quieter stay, the Burbank area has The Garland and The Coast Anabelle, which include free shuttle transportation to Universal. Undercover Tourist offers deals on all of these hotels. Hope this helps!

FrogBlog Says...

Hi Jessica!

We are hoppy to help! According to our Crowd Calendar, it is expected that the park will draw equally large crowds on both Sept. 4 and Sept. 5 due to the fact that it is Labor Day weekend, so either work. However, having VIP Tour Experience tickets should ensure you’re able to have a well-rounded experience and complete mostly everything on your itinerary, despite the crowds. The park can close early (6 or 7 p.m.) during the fall. Ordering an Uber or Lyft ride from Anaheim to Universal City costs roughly $50 going one way, and relying on public transportation to travel such a long distance can be tiring. Rental cars are an affordable option if you will be traveling back and forth between the two cities, and Undercover Tourist offers deals on rental cars! If you’re looking for less of a hassle though, you can also stay in a hotel close to Universal Studios Hollywood for the night of your visit. Check out our post on the best hotels and places to stay in Los Angeles, specifically near the parks.

So if that is important to you and you won't be at Disneyland on Friday or Saturday, go to Disneyland on Sunday.

Hi MZ!

If you're trying to be budget-friendly, then we'd recommend that you utilize both Child Switch in addition to Single Rider lines. Not every ride has a Single Rider line, but many do. If going that route, then you'll want to arrive early and go on any rides without Single Rider lines, such as The Studio Tour and Secret Life of Pets, first before those lines get too long.

Spring would probably be the best time (with the exception of spring break season from mid-March to mid-April). Also keep in mind that during slower periods, there may be shorter hours, more ride refurbishments and less entertainment.

I’m planning to buy the express pass, but should I also buy the early access pass? Also, where would you start the day - Mario World or Universal? One last thing, is valet parking $50/hr or $50/day. If it’s $50/day, then is that the better option than preferred parking and front gate parking?

Hi Lindsey!

We'll start by saying that a lot could change by September (the virtual queue might not be in place or Universal might stop selling Early Access tickets), so it will depend on demand at that time. The Early Access ticket has been a great way to maximize time in Super Nintendo World, so if it is available as an option, we'd recommend looking into it. You could also consider a V.I.P. tour — this includes valet parking, meals and guaranteed access to Super Nintendo World (including skipping the line for Mario Kart, which, at this time, is not offered on Express). Another thing to keep in mind is that 9/21 will likely be an HHN night, so the park will close by 6 p.m. to switch over to HHN. Regardless, we always recommend starting in the Lower Lot, which is where Super Nintendo World is located.

Hi Mike!

Normally, we'd say crowds aren't so bad during the week, but because Super Nintendo World is officially opening Feb. 17, it may be more crowded than usual. Note that if it is busy enough, you would need to join a Virtual Line (which has the potential to fill up quickly) to enter Super Nintendo World. However, if you have Universal Express, you would be able to access the land without a Virtual Line reservation after 3 p.m. The only ride in the land, Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge, will not have an Express line upon opening and is only accessible through a traditional standby line (or a Single Riders line). So it may be worth getting a Universal Express pass if you are interested in accessing the new land.

As for Disney California Adventure, it likely won't be as busy during the week, but do keep in mind that the Magic Happens parade returns Feb. 24 to Disneyland Park (so while Disneyland Park may be busy that day, you could see elevated crowds spill into DCA that day and over the weekend).

Hi Jessica!

Between Disney and Universal, we would choose Disneyland Park (not Disney California Adventure), as the special events cause early closures for the general public so you wouldn't be able to maximize your time. Though if you do not mind the shorter hours, then Universal Studios Hollywood may have lower crowds, specifically in the morning, though it may get more crowded as it gets closer to the event.
