A note from Leap: Starting Oct. 19, 2021, FastPass+ service at Walt Disney World will be replaced with the Disney Genie system. For an additional cost, Guests can bypass the standby line and utilize the reimagined Lightning Lanes. Guests will have the option to make individual attraction selections using the Lightning Lane entrance, or can opt for Disney Genie+ service. With Disney Genie+ service, for $15 per ticket per day at Walt Disney World, guests will be able to choose the next available time to arrive at a variety of attractions and experiences using the Lightning Lane entrance. You can make one selection at a time, throughout the day. Check out our Disney Genie Frequently Asked Questions for more information!
We've written extensively about Walt Disney World's FastPass+ system. If you're not already familiar with FastPass+, we recommend you start with our basic introduction of FastPass+ and then move on to our best FastPass+ tips. This post is all about how to use the in-park kiosks to make or modify FastPass+ reservations. It also includes details on getting additional day-of FastPasses in the park after you've used your first three.
While most of you will want to take full advantage of FastPass+, and thus book in advance via the My Disney Experience app or website, there are times when you may want to use the in-park kiosks to make or modify reservations. If the app goes down or you run out of cell phone juice (hey — it happens!) while you're in the parks, you can still make FastPass+ reservations using the kiosks. If, for some reason, you don't want to create a My Disney Experience account at all and just want to make reservations when you arrive, you can also do that using the in-park kiosks. Keep in mind that reservations for the most popular rides go quickly. If you make day-of reservations, your selections will be more limited, but then again, I once scored a day-before Avatar: Flight of Passage FastPass+ reservation, so it can happen.
Before we hop into the how-to, we want to stress that we highly recommend you book your FastPass+ reservations as far in advance as you are allowed — this is one of the top ways to save time in the parks! As a reminder, you are allowed to pre-book up to three reservations per day in one park via the My Disney Experience website or app. Guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel can make FastPass+ reservations up to 60 days in advance of check-in for their entire length of stay (up to 10 days), while guests staying off-site can make reservations up to 30 days in advance of each day of their theme park visit.
Using Disney World In-Park FastPass+ Kiosks to Make Reservations
Once you are in the park, you can use the FastPass+ kiosks to help manage your selections. You can also use them to create new selections or manage existing selections. Not everyone in the party must be present at the kiosks, but the person making or changing the reservations does need all of the tickets or MagicBands in order to make changes. These general steps are subject to change at any time.
To get started, touch your ticket or MagicBand to the Mickey RFID reader.
If you have set up a profile on My Disney Experience and linked your ticket already, the system will identify you by name. If you have not set up a profile, the system will identify you as guest. If you want to make FastPass+ reservations for your whole party, you can do this by selecting "Add another guest to your travel party" and linking your tickets.
If you are with someone you aren't linked to on My Disney Experience, you can simply tap their Magic Band or ticket as well in order to book FastPass+ selections together.
You will then be asked to select an experience from the list of available attractions and entertainment in that park. Multiple times will be listed for each option as availability allows, so pick whichever works best for you!
If you're hoppy with your selections, then you are ready to hit the rides or explore the park!
If you decide that you would like to book another time for one of your already booked attractions or entertainment choices, or you would like to replace one of your booked attractions for another, you have the option to make changes.
If you choose to change the time, you will be presented with a list of the available time slots for the selected attraction. Keep in mind that you will only be shown times that don't overlap with your other two selections. For example, if you were scheduled for Under the Sea~Journey of the Little Mermaid between 12:45 p.m. and 1:45 p.m., you would not be presented with an overlapping time for Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. You will be asked to confirm your changes — and then off you go!
Obtaining Additional, Day-of FastPass+ Reservations
After you have used your first three FastPass+ selections or your reservation time has passed, you can use the in-park kiosks or mobile app to make an additional fourth reservation. After that one has been used (or the return window has passed), you can make a fifth reservation, and so on, and so on. If guests are park hopping, they can only book Fastpass+ selections at the kiosk for the park they are currently in. So if you were in Disney's Hollywood Studios and had used all three of your FP+ allotments and planned to hop over to Magic Kingdom, you would need to be in Magic Kingdom in order to make additional FastPass+ reservations via a kiosk. If, however, you have park hoppers and are using My Disney Experience, you can make your additional FastPass reservations in another park (though these still need to be booked one by one).
