How to Choose Your Universal Orlando Tickets (Plus How to Save!)

Inside This Post Inside This Post

Today, we're walking you through all of the different ticket types, including the Universal Park-to-Park ticket, and providing a few details to help you choose the best Universal Orlando ticket for your family. Whether you're looking to include Volcano Bay or opting for a Park-to-Park or Base ticket, we've got you covered! Plus, we'll run through the best ways to save money on your Universal Orlando tickets (hint: we know some frogs that offer hoppin' discounts!). Let's jump in!

Choosing the Best Universal Orlando Tickets - Globe

Universal Orlando Resort is a whoa-worthy destination, where you'll come face-to-face with dinosaurs, fast cars, wizardry, minions and so much more! There is a ton to tackle at Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure and Universal Volcano Bay, which is why choosing the best Universal Orlando ticket for your family is so critical! We know it can be difficult to decide how many days and which ticket — or even which Universal park is best for your fam. But never fear, your resident theme park experts are here!

A Look at Universal Orlando Theme Parks

There is a lot to see and do — Universal Orlando just keeps growing and growing! Visitors can now enjoy a brand-new DreamWorks Land, which features family-friendly rides, character greetings and more. In even bigger news, in summer 2025, an entirely new park will open called Universal Epic Universe. When this new gate opens, we may revisit our advice! But for now, most families visiting Universal Orlando will want to spend three to four days in the parks. But what if you only have one day? It's toadally subjective, but we're gonna answer this (and even give you our top tips for saving some money on your next Universal Orlando vacay). But first, let's take a quick look at the parks.

Universal Studios Florida

Choosing the Best Universal Orlando Tickets - The Mummy

This park is home to some amazing thrill and family rides based on blockbuster movies such as Transformers the Ride: 3D, Revenge of the Mummy and Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem. It's also home to the amazingly detailed Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley, plus Knockturn Alley (one of our favorite Universal Studios Florida hidden gems). We have an entire guide dedicated to the rides, food and experiences you won't want to miss at Universal Studios Florida. This park also hosts seasonal events such as Halloween Horror Nights, Mardi Gras and Grinchmas.

Universal Islands of Adventure

Choosing the Best Universal Orlando Tickets - VelociCoaster

There are multiple lands, or is-lands rather, to discover at this park that features epic attractions such as Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, the Incredible Hulk Coaster, Jurassic World VelociCoaster and the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man. The park is home to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade. Here's what not to miss at Islands of Adventure for even more information on this incredible park!

Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure & Universal Volcano Bay Ticket Types

There are quite a few ticket options for the Universal Orlando Resort, including Universal Volcano Bay water theme park. As always, as an authorized theme park ticket seller, we're hoppy to offer Universal Orlando tickets and hotels at a discount.

  • The Universal Base Ticket entitles you to admission at Universal Studios Florida OR Universal Islands of Adventure for each day of your ticket (one park per day). You have an additional option of adding on Universal Volcano Bay for each day of your ticket (one park per day) with the 3-Day, 4-Day and 5-Day base tickets. For example, with a Universal 3-Day Base Ticket, you could go to Universal Studios on Monday, Universal Islands of Adventure on Tuesday and then go back to Universal Studios on Wednesday. Another example is the Universal 3-Day Base Ticket with Volcano Bay, which would allow you to visit Universal Studios on Monday, Universal Islands of Adventure on Tuesday and Universal Volcano Bay on Wednesday. Of course, which days you choose is up to you. And that brings us to another important point: Most of Universal's tickets are now date-based. That means you must pick a start date for your visit, and will be assigned a usage window.
  • The Universal Park-to-Park Ticket entitles you to admission at Universal Studios Florida AND Universal Islands of Adventure for each day of your ticket (giving you the freedom to hop back and forth between the two parks). For instance, let's say you purchase a Universal 2-Day Park-to-Park Ticket. On Monday, you could go to Universal Studios Florida for the first half of the day, then head over to Universal Islands of Adventure for the afternoon. On Wednesday, you could start at Universal Islands of Adventure, go to Universal Studios Florida in the afternoon and then end the day back at Universal Islands of Adventure. Another option is the Universal 3-Park Park-to-Park Ticket with Volcano Bay, which would allow you to visit all three parks every day for three days. It's important to note that if riding the Hogwarts Express is a must for you, you must have a Park-to-Park ticket to do so.

You now have the option to choose from 1-Day, 2-Day, 3-Day, 4-Day and 5-Day tickets for your vacation. Are you a Florida resident? We've even got you covered with the Florida Resident Power Pass! We also offer discount Express Passes, which let you skip the regular lines, and VIP Experience tickets for the ultimate red carpet treatment.

Looking for Epic Universe tickets? Stay tuned! Details on tickets for this incredible new park have not yet been released, but we'll be sure to update as soon as we know more.

More Hopful Ticket Info

  • The expiration of Universal tickets is generally dictated by the number of days. You will activate the ticket upon entry to your first Universal Orlando Resort Theme Park.
  • Parking for all three parks (at Universal CityWalk) is not included with tickets and is currently $32 per day for regular parking. If you are staying at a Universal hotel, free transportation to the parks is included with your stay.
  • The Universal Express Pass, which allows you to skip the regular lines on most of Universal Orlando's attractions, is a separate purchase and can be bought from us or directly from Universal, including in the parks. Don't worry — we have a whole post about when to use Universal Express. (And if you stay at a Universal premier hotel, Express Unlimited is included with your stay.)
  • Want an even steeper discount on your vacation? Bundle select Universal tickets with a 2-night Universal Orlando hotel stay to save an additional $40!

Is Base or Park-to-Park the Best Universal Orlando Ticket?

Universal Studios Florida, Universal Islands of Adventure and Universal Volcano Bay are on the same property and within walking distance of each other, making the Park-to-Park Ticket a popular choice. Universal Studios Florida and Universal Islands of Adventure are right next door to each other, so it's super easy to hop between them.

Choosing the Best Universal Orlando Tickets - Hogwarts Express

The Universal Park-to-Park Ticket type gives you more flexibility than the Base Ticket type. Plus the Park-to-Park ticket is the only way to experience the Hogwarts Express, which takes you between both Wizarding Worlds. It's also a different experience in each direction. The Universal Park-to-Park ticket is a good choice when one park closes earlier than the others. For instance, if Universal Studios Florida closes at 5 p.m. and Universal Islands of Adventure closes at 7 p.m., the Park-to-Park ticket allows you to leave Universal Studios Florida and have two hours to enjoy the rides at Universal Islands of Adventure. (You can see park hours on our Crowd Calendar.)

The Universal Base Ticket is a good choice if you are traveling with little ones and one park per day is plenty, you don't care to experience the Hogwarts Express or you just want the lowest-priced ticket.

How Many Days Should We Stay at Universal?

Choosing Best Tickets for Universal Orlando - Royal Pacific

With so many thrills to tackle, and so many great Universal hotel choices, it makes sense to stay and play longer at Universal Orlando. If you plan on visiting Volcano Bay, you may consider adding a day to your visit, or you could tack on water park time in the afternoons or evenings after a day in the other parks. How long to stay depends on many factors, including the ages and interests of your kids, your own interests, whether you are staying on property, how leisurely you like to tour the parks and how busy the parks will be during your visit. Most families visiting Universal Orlando Resort will want to spend three to four days in the parks, so we recommend five to seven days total to make the most of the property. If you're doing a combined visit to Walt Disney World, you would probably want to do two to three days at Universal.

Consider a longer stay if ...

  • You and your kids are thrill-seekers and meet the height requirements for most rides (40 inches)
  • You want to see and do everything during your visit
  • The parks are expected to be busy
  • You like to tour the parks leisurely and/or you don't like to get out of bed early
  • You are staying at a Universal Orlando hotel and want more time to enjoy the hotel pools and amenities

I had purchased 2 park 1 day tickets for December 21 and 22 or 2022 but I ended up in the hospital and we weren't able to go. My husband had called about our tickets and was told that we could use them within a year. I'm just wanting confirmation on that because I would like to go in May if we still can use our tickets.

Hi Annemieke!

There is not a combined ticket option for only one theme park and Volcano Bay. Since we don't know how many adults and children are in your party, we can't do the math for you, but we would suggest crunching the numbers to see a price comparison between 1) buying a 1-Day 1-Park Ticket and a 1-Day Volcano Bay Ticket separately or 2) sticking with the 2-Day 2-Park Plus Volcano Bay ticket.

Hi

What's the difference between the park to park 3-Park - 3-Day PLUS 2 Days Free Ticket and the park to park 3-Park - 5-Day Ticket?

We want 5 days but just wondering what the difference is between them. Thanks

Hi Lu!

The only differences are prices and valid use dates! The 3-Day Park-to-Park with Volcano Bay PLUS 2-Days Free ticket is the price of a 3-Day ticket but you'll get 5 days. This promotion is only valid for visits through 12/31/2022. The standard 5-Day Park-to-Park with Volcano Bay ticket is valid for visits through 3/31/2023.

I plan to get an UOR AP for our group of 4 from Georgia. If I buy tickets via UT will the discount roll forward to the AP once I upgrade at the park? Just wondering if it makes more sense to buy a discounted ticket and upgrade or just buy the AP or does it cost the same either way? Thank you!

If we purchase a 4 day, park to park ticket from UT, can we upgrade it to a premier AP (I'm assuming at Park guest relations)?

And are all Uni tickets electronic as opposed to physical?

Thank you!

2-Day Park-to-Park tickets only include Universal's Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida; if you'd also like to hop to Volcano Bay, just look for a ticket that says "with Volcano Bay" for access to all three. Hope this helps - let us know if you have any additional questions! :)

I am traveling alone and I am planning to visit the Universal Studios next week. I have some questions in mind about my plans. I am a huge Harry Potter fan and I want to get as much as I can get from this trip.

I don't know if I should get park-to-park tickets or base tickets. If I get the park-to-park tickets, am I allowed to use the Hogwarts Express each day without any additional cost? And I also see that there is a package called [2-Park] 2-Day Base + 3-Days Free Promo Ticket and same as park-to-park, there is no clear information about the 3 days free promo part of the ticket, so I can just go there for 5 days with that ticket am I right? Also if I get the park-to-park ticket, are these additional 3 days free promo tickets also be park-to-park? I just want to be sure before making any certain plans. Thanks a lot!

Hi Mehmet!

If you want to take the Hogwarts Express, you'll want the Park-to-Park ticket - that's the only way you'll get to ride, and it's included in the cost of a Park-to-Park ticket :) Be sure to ride it both ways, as the experience is different each way! If you purchased the promo ticket you mentioned, you'd essentially have a 5 day park-to-park ticket (with park hopping benefits for all 5 days). Hope this helps! Please let us know if we can help with any additional questions - have a great time!

Hi Kathleen!

We would suggest choosing your Express Pass day based on which attractions he may like. Universal has a lot of the screen/motion simulation rides like Transformers, Jimmy Fallon, Minions, the Simpsons, etc. while IOA also has screen rides (Spiderman, Kong) and has all of the water rides. There are more rides at Islands of Adventure with drops than at Universal Studios Florida. The rides that offer Express can be found here if you'd like to look over the rides to choose from! You can also check out our YouTube channel to see ride videos if you need a closer look! Both days are a level six in terms of crowds, but Islands of Adventure will be open an hour later on Friday, which would leave you with more ride time :) Universal Studios Florida has the same operating hours both days. We hope this helps - have a great time!

Hi, thanks for the detailed post. I actually planned for 3days to visit 3 parks. But on reading the post I am thinking to increase a day or two. I got three questions that I am looking help for.

1) I saw the crowd calendar and it mentions a day as busy, in that case do you think whole park can be covered in a day?

2) if i got 3day base or park2park ticket, once it activated can it be extended for 1 or 2 days if required?

3) How does Florida resident ticketing work? I sm planning with some of my friends in Florida, as my friend in Florida is booking the ticket, can I get the same discounted price?

Thanks for making people’s life little easier...

Hi Suresh!

As long as it's not a busy, the park can be done in a whole day! On a busy day, if you have Express Pass, we also think one park is do-able in a day as long as you get there as the park opens. Yes, you can extend your ticket an extra day or two, as long as it’s used within the 7-day usage period. The Florida Resident discount isn't available, unfortunately, but if your friend has an Annual Pass, a small discount off of multi-day theme park tickets is available at the front gate. Have a great time!

Hi,

We will be in Orlando for a wedding and have Oct 7 free and our plan is to go to Universal for the day...thinking of a park to park ticket for Universal and Islands of Adventure...we sadly won’t have another day but thinking to try our best to get the best of both worlds...

Hi Joanie!

We agree that a park-to-park ticket would be best to maximize your time! If you can swing it, Express Pass would be another great way to make the very most of your day. Have a great time!

My husband and I are planning on going to Universal and Islands of Adventure in the Fall 2020. We are thinking of staying at Cabana Bay which does not offer the express pass. How many days would you recommend to enjoy both parks? We love Harry Potter and rides :)

We were also interested in going to MGM since the new Star Wars attraction opened. Could we do that in one day even if we are staying at a Universal resort? Thanks!

Hi Sarah!

We recommend at least two full days to enjoy both Universal parks – one park each day. Just keep in mind that Universal Studios closes early for Halloween Horror Nights on select fall nights! Otherwise, three days would be plenty to fit everything in, especially if you stay the majority of the day. Likewise, Galaxy's Edge at Hollywood Studios can be done in a day. Enjoy!

We are doing Universal on dec 7 and 8. Unsure of staying on unverisal property. What is my best route for tickets? We want the hogwarts express so I know i should do 2 day park to park. Wondering if I should do the express pass for one day? Best route for buying tickets?

Hi Kelly!

Yes, if you're wanting to take the Hogwarts Express from park to park, you'll definitely want a park to park ticket. Two days is a good amount to get to try to do and see everything. If it's going to be a busy day, we always recommend express passes (because who doesn't love skipping the lines?). You can see the crowd forecasts on our Crowd Calendar. We have a hoppin' deal right now for a 2 day park to park ticket with an extra day FREE! You can see that deal, and all of our ticket offerings, here.

Hi! My husband and I are traveling to Orlando on the 21st of September. We have a pretty full schedule and have been to Universal (main) before but it's been a few years. He's not interested in buying park to park tickets and wants to take in volcano bay. Should we opt for a 3 day 3 park pass or buy tickets separately? There's soooo many choices. Help!

Hi Frances!

If he isn't interested in hopping from park to park, we'd stick with a base ticket, and three days sounds perfect. We have a great promo going on right now where you get Volcano Bay entry FREE! You can see that ticket option here under "Special Offers - Universal Orlando" (the very first section).

Hi Brenda!

It looks like Sept. 30 falls under value - yay! We'd also suggest springing for Express Passes if you can to get the most rides in in your day.

If we stay at a universal hotel, and have early admission with our universal tickets, does the early admission need to be on the same date as our hotel stay? we are only staying near universal for two nights, them moving to another property for seven days. Does our early admission need to be on the same day as our stay at the universal hotel, or can we use it on a day after we leave?

Hi Mike!

The SeaWorld Unlimited Pass allows you to visit SeaWorld Orlando, Aquatica, Busch Gardens and Adventure Island as many times as you'd like over a 14 day period. Universal does things a little differently. If you're looking to hop back and forth between the parks, you'll want a park-to-park ticket; if you'd also like to head to the water park, Volcano Bay, you'll want to purchase a ticket that specifies entry in the name. The largest length of time Universal offers tickets for (outside of an annual pass) is 5 days. You can find a 5-day Universal ticket with park-to-park access to Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Volcano Bay here. Hope this helps!

Hi I was on Universals site and I am still confused between the 3park 4 day park to park ticket and the 3 park unlimited ticket. We are going for 4 days and I am guessing my kids will want to go to Volcano Bay in the morning one day then go to one of the other parks and more than likely will want to ride the train to the other park. So which ticket should I get? Thanks

FrogBlog Says...

Hi Tammy!

If you're looking to be able to visit more than one park each day (Volcano Bay included), you'll want a 3 park-to-park ticket for as many days as you'd like to visit. The Express Pass is a separate, optional purchase that allows you to skip the line once for each ride and attraction; purchasing an Unlimited Express Pass allows you to skip the line as many times as you'd like.

We are planning on going to Universal on May 8th and purchasing the 2 park 1 day pass. We are not purchasing express passes. If it were to rain that day, we can use that ticket on the 7th or the 9th where its the same price as the 8th correct? Thanks is advance

Hi Erin!

Yes, that's correct. Universal categorizes their tickets and pricing by "season," and it looks like all dates, as you noted, are considered the same in that regard - good to go!

Hi - we are looking at visiting Universal in February 2020. We just want to do two park days and don't need park to park. Our boys are young and we just want one day at Universal Studios and one day Islands of Adventure. We want to stay at a Universal Resort too and want Unlimited Express passes. What would be the best combo for this? I can't seem to find a deal for just 2 days...we don't need any extra. Thanks!

The tickets are so confusing to me. We'll be in Orlando August 7th through the 11th and the boys (husband and 2 sons, 14 & 12) want to experience Universal Studios on the 8th, 9th, and 10th, while I'm at a convention. I really could use some help working out a package including hotel and tickets.

Hi Jenni,

I would recommend 2-day Park-to-Park ticket with extra day free. This was your kids can go to whichever park they choose during that time. Most likely you already have your hotel settled. If not, staying at one of the official resort hotels would make it more convenient!

Hi Fatimah!

You'll want the Park to Park with Volcano Bay ticket, for as many days as you'd like to enter the park. You'll also want to add on the Express Unlimited to be able to skip the lines as much as the kiddos would like.

Both have blackout dates when the tickets cannot be used, but those dates differ. I would look at when you are likely to visit and then select the best priced ticket that is valid for those dates.

Does Universal allow you to add a day on after you have already used a day or 2? Do they just charge you the difference between a 4 and 5 day pass? We currently have 4 day, 2 parks, park to park tickets and thinking we may want a 5th day.
