Is Magic Kingdom open on Christmas? It's one of the most common questions we frogs get asked when it comes to the holiday season. And in today's blog, we're giving you all the magical details so you can make the very (merry) most of your trip to Walt Disney World! During the weeks of Christmas and New Year's, there's also a little extra pixie dust sprinkled in when it comes to entertainment that is typically exclusive to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. Let's hop to it!

Is Magic Kingdom Open on Christmas Day?

Yes, it is! Magic Kingdom, along with the rest of the Walt Disney World theme parks (EPCOT, Disney's Animal Kingdom and Disney's Hollywood Studios), is open on Christmas Day. This year, Magic Kingdom will be open on Christmas Day from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. for non-resort guests and 7:30 a.m. for Disney resort hotel guests utilizing Early Theme Park Entry. If you're unfamiliar with Early Theme Park Entry, this benefit is exclusive to on-site guests, and it allows you into the park 30 minutes before the scheduled opening time. Pretty neat, right?

Park hopping (hopping from park to park) is available from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. However, we generally recommend avoiding park hopping on Christmas Day, especially if you plan to cap your night at Magic Kingdom. This park, in particular, has the potential to reach capacity on Christmas Day. But more on this later, including our tips!

Does Magic Kingdom Reach Capacity on Christmas Day?

Is Magic Kingdom Open for Christmas? - Crowd

Magic Kingdom has historically reached capacity on Christmas Day. However, with the introduction of date-based tickets and park reservations for non-dated admission (such as Annual Passholders), Disney has been much better in recent years at planning for increased attendance in advance. With Disney being able to stop dated ticket sales or suspend park reservations, it's less common to see the parks, including Magic Kingdom, turning away guests at the gate. That said, there have still been a few instances when Magic Kingdom has restricted park hopping for a few hours, which is why we'd recommend staying put instead of park hopping.

As it stands, 1-Day Magic Kingdom tickets and park reservations are entirely booked for Christmas Day 2025.

As far as crowds go, the week between Christmas and New Year's is the busiest of the year. On our Crowd Calendar, these dates reach the highest level. Lines tend to wrap around, with cast members often having to keep tabs on the end of the line to direct guests to their favorite attraction, so pack your patience. We have even more tips on navigating holiday crowds, as well as some listed below.

Things to Do on Christmas Day at Magic Kingdom

Holiday Parade and Fireworks

Visiting Magic Kingdom is always magical, but Christmas Day offers an extra present for the season. Throughout the holiday season, guests attending Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party are treated to exclusive offerings, including Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade and Minnie's Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks. But when you visit Magic Kingdom on Christmas Day, you're actually able to enjoy these exclusive experiences, with the parade running during the day and fireworks at night.

Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade will be available to view twice on Christmas Day! The first showing begins at 12 p.m. and the second one starts at 3 p.m. Minnie's Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks will start at 8:30 p.m., so keep in mind, there will be no showing of Happily Ever After. However, if you had your heart set on seeing the new nighttime parade, Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away, catch it twice at 7 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. (on Dec. 30 and 31, times will be 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. due to New Year's Eve fireworks).

If you're not at Magic Kingdom on Christmas Day, you can still catch these entertainment offerings during the week at the same scheduled times. Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade runs from Dec. 22-31, while Minnie's Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks runs from Dec. 22-29.

Frozen Holiday Surprise Stage Show

At 6:15 p.m. on Christmas Day, catch the Frozen Holiday Surprise stage show. This festive stage show, which is only about seven minutes long, features Olaf and the snowgies decorating Cinderella Castle with garland, wreaths and ornaments.

Then, Anna, Elsa and Kristoff will make an appearance on stage wearing their holiday best. Watch as Elsa uses her ice powers to transform Cinderella Castle into a shimmering crystal palace!

Holiday Decor

Magic Kingdom will be decked out in its holiday best on Christmas Day with strands of garland, wreaths, lights and bows displayed throughout the park. Be sure to snap a photo in front of the iconic 65-foot-tall Christmas Tree and nearby toy soldiers in Town Square, Main Street, U.S.A.

Jingle Cruise

Have a holly, holly, journey on the Jingle Cruise in Adventureland! Every holiday season, Jungle Cruise transforms into the Jingle Cruise, filled with festive puns.

Meet-and-Greets With Characters in Their Seasonal Best

On Christmas Day, many of the characters will wear festive outfits commemorating the special occasion. It's not a guarantee, but in the past, we’ve seen outdoor meet-and-greet characters wearing sweaters and scarves.

Keep in mind, this typically only extends to traditional meet-and-greets. Characters at dining locations, such as Cinderella’s Royal Table, will usually wear their traditional outfits.

Festive Food and Merchandise

Expect to indulge your sweet tooth on Christmas Day! Many restaurants, including quick-service locations at Magic Kingdom, will offer special holiday-themed treats.

Of course, no day at Magic Kingdom is complete without buying a few souvenirs. Expect some festive merchandise to still be lining the shelves, including stuffed animals, mugs and home decor. Our family makes it a tradition to visit Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe in Liberty Square on Christmas Day and buy an ornament (which you can get personalized from that store!).

Can You Meet Santa at Magic Kingdom on Christmas Day?

Is Magic Kingdom Open on Christmas? - Santa

Unfortunately, no, you cannot meet Santa on Christmas Day at any of the parks, including Magic Kingdom. After all, he just delivered millions of toys around the world — he deserves a day off!

However, if you’re visiting before Christmas Day, Santa is taking some time out of his busy schedule to meet with guests under the big top in Storybook Circus. Check your My Disney Experience to confirm exact times, but he is meeting daily from Nov. 27 to Dec. 24, 2025.

Tips for Visiting Magic Kingdom on Christmas Day

If you planned on visiting Magic Kingdom on Christmas Day, don't stress. We have some hopful tips to help you make the most of your day.

Arrive Early

If you're staying at a Disney World Resort hotel, such as Disney's Coronado Springs Resort or one of the All-Star Resorts, utilize your Early Theme Park Entry benefit. If you're staying off-site, then be sure to arrive at Magic Kingdom as soon as the gates open. Keep in mind that it can take at least 30 minutes (and potentially much longer during busier times) to get from the parking lot to Magic Kingdom, so leave some extra time for travel.

Choose Your Must-Dos and Invest in Lightning Lane

Magic Kingdom can get very crowded on Christmas Day and throughout the week between New Year's. Understand that this isn't like a regular visit, with the ability to hop on and off rides. We recommend that each member of your party choose one or two must-dos and knock them out before trying to be spontaneous.

Though lines may be relatively long with Lightning Lane, we still recommend buying it during this time because the wait times will still be significantly shorter than standing in line without it. As of publication, Lightning Lane Multi Pass is $45 per guest on Christmas Day. Single Passes for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train are $15 per guest and TRON Lightcycle / Run for $23 per guest. On-site guests can make their purchase up to 7 days in advance of their visit. Off-site guests, including Annual Passholders, can buy their passes three days in advance. Buy this early, right at 7 a.m. on your eligibility date, before it sells out.

Bring Your Own Snacks

Just like the attractions, lines at quick-service locations will be long on Christmas Day. While we recommend treating yourself to some festive snacks while you can, also bring some bottles of water (no glass) and non-perishable snacks to minimize how much waiting you have to do. And when you can, definitely utilize Mobile Order, too. We recommend hitting "I'm Here, Prepare My Order" while you're walking toward the restaurant, as it can still take some time for the restaurant to get your food ready, especially during peak busy times.

Watch the Parade From Frontierland

Another hopful tip is to watch Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade from where it starts in Frontierland, rather than on Main Street, U.S.A. Everyone wants that coveted photo of Mickey Mouse and his friends in front of the iconic Cinderella Castle or snoap on Main Street, but that draws significant crowds.

By watching in Frontierland, you're usually dealing with fewer people. Plus, you have the advantage of getting in line for a nearby ride quickly, such as Haunted Mansion or Tiana's Bayou Adventure, because three whole sections of the park immediately open up while everyone else is still waiting for the parade at the front of the park.

Bring a Jacket

Despite Florida being called the Sunshine State, it does, in fact, get cold during the winter season. Christmas Day is no exception! Temps usually drop to the high 40s to low 50s in the morning, then warm to the low to mid-70s by the afternoon. At night, expect temps to be in the 60s. You don't need to bring something too heavy (after all, you don't want to be lugging around a giant coat all day), but bringing a light jacket or a sweater you can take off midday and a hat are recommended to stay warm.

Of course, you can always buy a new jacket while you're visiting. I totally haven't used that excuse at all (hehe).

Stay at Magic Kingdom All Day

EPCOT, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom, Disney Springs and the on-site resorts all have plenty to offer guests visiting Walt Disney World on Christmas Day. However, once again, if your plans include spending the day at Magic Kingdom, we recommend staying there.

However, we understand that tired tadpoles may make leaving a necessity. In this case, try to get everything you want to do done. Remember our must-dos in tip #2 before you go.

Some Final Thoughts

We won't sugarcoat it (ha, pun, sugar cookies): Christmas Day at Magic Kingdom can be busy. The lines are long, and the crowds can be intense.

However, a visit to Magic Kingdom on Christmas Day is still incredibly magical. There are holiday parades and fireworks to enjoy, limited-time foods, exciting shows, and an air of excitement, too. After all, it’s Christmas Day! And while you may be tired, there’s nothing quite like listening to festive music, snapping a photo with Mickey Mouse and taking a plunge on Pirates of the Caribbean at the Most Magical Place on Earth during one of the most exciting, family-filled days of the year.
