Disney World Closures & Refurbishments

by Leap on June 3, 2026
338 Orlando

Experience all four Walt Disney World Theme Parks this summer with the 4-Day, 4-Park Magic Ticket! Valid for arrivals from May 26 to Sept. 26, 2026.

Inside This Post

We've put together this list of Disney World closures and refurbishments for the theme parks, water parks, Disney Springs and hotels, so you know which rides, experiences and even transportation and amenities might be unavailable during your visit. Refurbishments are temporary closures, usually scheduled in advance but can also take place last minute. Permanent closures are rides that are no longer active in the parks, and seasonal ones are those that take place annually. While we regularly update this post, please note that all attraction closures at Disney World and refurbishments are subject to change without notice.

Disney World Refurbishments - Leap

Walt Disney World Ride Closures & Refurbishments

Here is a list of all temporary closures at Disney World. It is not uncommon for Disney to change refurbishment times — to move up or postpone temporary closures — so check back as your trip gets closer! We update this post every week to reflect any changes.

*Please note: All Disney World refurbishments & closings are subject to change without notice.

You may have heard about some of the exciting new developments coming to Disney World over the next few years, including a new Monsters, Inc. Land at Hollywood Studios, the retheming of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster to include the Muppets, a new Tropical Americas section in Animal Kingdom taking over for DinoLand USA and even new Cars and Villains Lands coming to Magic Kingdom. We've got the details below on any construction or closures making way for these new spaces, and will continue to update once confirmed. Is there a release date for Mickey's not so scary Halloween party tickets for resort guests yet?

Also does Disney ever add more free dining plan dates? We're going October 6th and I've been watching to see if our trip dates are added to the free dining.

Hi Maddi!

We do not have Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party ticket details yet, but we'll be sure to update our guide once we know! As for Dining Plan deal dates, we don't know but wouldn't guarantee additional dates in 2025. (However, yesterday, Disney announced a new 2026 kids free dining plan deal, which we will also be offering soon.)

Hi JJ!

Refurbishments are always subject to change, so we don't know with exact certainty if the refurbishment could be extended. But generally, the refurbishment calendar is fairly accurate. If there are any changes, it will be reflected in this post, as we update it weekly.

Hi Katy!

As of now, there isn't a refurbishment scheduled for the Disney Skyliner, though for the past several years, it has closed for about a week in January. We update this post weekly, so if anything changes, we'll be sure to note it here!

Hello,

I know there is no way to know when the royal hall will re open, but wondering from past experience do characters usually get placed elsewhere in the park if their permanent home is closed? I will have 2 very disappointed little girls if we can’t find Anna and Elsa. Thank you so much for your time!

Hi Lynnea!

We have a separate post for refurbishments at Disneyland. While Anna and Elsa's Royal welcome will be closed for refurbishment, at DCA, you might see them elsewhere in the park. Since the closures are in the future, we don't know where they might be, but you can usually find them in the app or ask a cast member. We have run into them in Disneyland Park at Royal Hall. Hope this helps!

Hi everyone. Haven't visited Orlando parks for 7 years now from UK but planning a trip when work finishes end of the year. Have always done Orlando end of Nov till mid Dec before it gets busy. But this year our holidays don't start till Jan & Feb. Still want to travel, just bothered that maybe big rides will close for maintenance while it's quiet. Can anybody shed any light on whether this is a common thing at Florida parks ? Thanks.

Hi Rob!

Yes, there can be regular maintenance and refurbishments during the slower periods. At Disney World, it's usually Kali River Rapids from January to February or March. Test Track will be getting an update starting in June, but we don't know how long that will take, so it could still be down in early 2025.

At Sea World Orlando the orca stadium is under construction. So there is no big show. They have a presentation at the underwater viewing area which is not the same. I was there February 7 and 8th. There were a lot of people in the park who were unaware like me that there was no big stadium show.

We have planned a trip to Universal for the end of this month to celebrate my daughter’s 11th birthday. One of the highlights would have been to ride the Hogwart’s Express between the parks. This was excellent information to know.......but I received it 4 days into my trip, so it didn't help us for Disney. There were quite a few attractions closed there. We didn't know that there would be no meet and greets (so unfortunately I couldn't get a pic with my/our favorite characters). To those that are reading this comment, there are mini parades with at least one character running about every hour, characters coming out on balconies, and some stages characters come out onto.

For Universal, this information was very helpful. It came on the same day we were going there. :-)

Hi Octavia!

As of right now, refurbishments during that time may include Kali River Rapids and the monorail. This is subject to change, so keep hopping back! We update this every week with any new developments.

We will be going next fall either in October or November, but I was wondering with Halloween being on a Saturday if they will have the Halloween Party that whole weekend or if Sunday they will be switching to Christmas? Also how quick do they get the castle lite for Christmas before the christmas party starts there?

Hi Angela!

We will not have the Halloween party information until possibly late spring, unfortunately. We will be sure to keep you updated as we hear more! Usually there is a Halloween Party on Halloween Night. The good news is that the Oogie Boogie Bash will return for 2020 and takes place at Disney California Adventure. Since that park usually closes earlier, maybe we will get a Saturday night Halloween Party! Christmas will not start until the first or second weekend in November.

I am so upset with all of these refurbishments. I have been saving for this trip for a year and a half and now have to deal with this. It is mine and my daughters first trip there and I'm worried after the holiday season they are going to start even more refurbishments. We are scheduled to visit Jan.14-22. I know just being there will be exciting but this sure puts a damper on a maybe once in a lifetime trip for us.

Belinda..the things you are missing you probably wouldn't enjoy during this time frame. This is when I've gone in the past (to escape the northern cold) and I would recommend a sweatshirt light jacket most days. It's not as busy as other times and your trip of a lifetime will be just that! Enjoy your daughter and every small and large magical moment :)

hello, we will be visiting nov 24-29th. since the monorail isn't working fully will we be directed to which transportation to use after parking to visit MK? If I remember correctly the other parks, the parking lot is right by(not needing to take another mode to get there)

also I had read on another site that during busy season, which we will be there during one, that they can close the park not allowing in guests. I'm guessing this will only happen if you decide to go later in the day. ours plans are to get there when the park opens in not earlier.

Hi Tiffany!

If you'll be driving and parking at Magic Kingdom, you'll need to take either the boat or monorail back to the parking lot - so if the monorail is out of order at that location, you'd be instructed to hop on the boat. Hope this helps!

I don't know exactly when Spaceship Earth will be closed for refurb, but sadly I won't make it back to Epcot to ride it one last time before it changes for good.

Hi Ian!

We unfortunately don't have the refurbishment dates that far out just yet, but based on past years' seasonal closures, you can expect that some of the water rides, such as Kali River Rapids and Splash Mountain, may be closed for seasonal repairs. We'll continue to update this thread as we know more!

Its our Golden Wedding Anniversary, and I'm inviting any suggestions for a special celebration as we'll have our 2 grandchildren with us too. We're not so mobile as our several visits many years ago now!, but curious if there are any Disney/Universal add-ons that would make this visit even more memorable...

Hi Brian!

First of all, congratulations! That is certainly something to celebrate :) At Universal, you can get a free celebratory button, for starters! We’d suggest that you walk by the Mystic Fountain to let it know that you’re celebrating. It’ll probably improvise and say something special! At Disney World, you can also get a button, and it might be a nice memento to get some fresh celebratory ears :) We'd also suggest a dinner together as a family at a park of your choosing or even Disney Springs - be sure to let them know when booking that it's your anniversary, and let your server know upon being seated, as well! Some other add-ons include VIP tours, and don't froget to add on photo packages at both parks to keep those memories with you! Others in the Frog Pond may have some suggestions, as well. Have a wonderful time!

I understand that Mickey will no longer be at the Town square theatre (as of Sept 30)? Is this correct or is it that Minnie will no longer be with him (or no longer the birthday outfits)? I also see they stopped the character spot at Epcot too. We go the week of October 7, only hitting Magic Kingdom and Epcot, where can we get pictures with Mickey?

Hi Beth!

In the past, this has just been a meet-and-greet for Mickey, so our best guess is that after Sept. 30, it'll go back to just Mickey without his fun confetti celebration outfit. The Character Spot in Epcot is closing temporarily to make way for some changes, but we unfortunately don't have an estimated re-opening date just yet. Be sure to get a Times Guide when you enter to see if he'll be popping up somewhere else! (We'll also update this post as soon as we know more.)

Hi there,

we have heard reports that there is refurb work being done on the Art of Animation hotel lobby etc. We are staying there in early July '19 and wondered whether this is true and if they would impact upon our stay there.

Cheers

Hi there!

It looks like the flooring in the lobby is being replaced in several stages through September 7th, so it may overlap with your stay. However, because this is being done in stages, we don't anticipate it being much of an intrusion. (In fact, Disney doesn't even have this listed in their general refurbishment list). Be sure to let us know! Have a frogtastic trip!

Hi, we are visiting Disneyworld from November 3rd for two weeks, we were wondering if Typhoon Lagoon will be the water park that is open at this time of year as we’ve noticed in past years that Disney have swapped which water park is open during this time of year.

Thank you!

Hi Kelly!

You're correct! If we go by past schedules, it should be Typhoon Lagoon that is open in November, as it typically goes through its refurbishment from January - March, while Blizzard Beach gets spruced up from October - January.

With the new select your date tickets at Walt Disney World, do you have to go to a park the first day you select? We are going to be there 6 days and I want to purchase a 5 day ticket. I am not sure if we are over tired from our flight we might not want to go that first day but will go the following 5 days? this is confusing.

Hi Sue!

That's correct - when selecting your date for tickets, you'll need to choose the date you think you'll enter the parks. If you DO end up skipping a day, I'd suggest heading to the ticketing booth (if you're purchasing directly from Disney) to see if they can help adjust the ticket for you.

Hi Dan!

This depends on which ticket you purchase. Universal Studios is comprised of two parks: Islands of Adventure (where the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is located) and Universal Studios. If the ticket says "1 park," you can either go to Islands of Adventure or Universal Studios, but not both in the same day; if you have a 2-park ticket, you can go to both parks in the same day. (We have a hoppin' deal right now where you can get a 2 day, 2 park ticket to Universal, plus 2 additional days FREE!)
