Disney World Closures & Refurbishments

by Leap on June 3, 2026
338 Orlando

Experience all four Walt Disney World Theme Parks this summer with the 4-Day, 4-Park Magic Ticket! Valid for arrivals from May 26 to Sept. 26, 2026.

Inside This Post

We've put together this list of Disney World closures and refurbishments for the theme parks, water parks, Disney Springs and hotels, so you know which rides, experiences and even transportation and amenities might be unavailable during your visit. Refurbishments are temporary closures, usually scheduled in advance but can also take place last minute. Permanent closures are rides that are no longer active in the parks, and seasonal ones are those that take place annually. While we regularly update this post, please note that all attraction closures at Disney World and refurbishments are subject to change without notice.

Disney World Refurbishments - Leap

Walt Disney World Ride Closures & Refurbishments

Here is a list of all temporary closures at Disney World. It is not uncommon for Disney to change refurbishment times — to move up or postpone temporary closures — so check back as your trip gets closer! We update this post every week to reflect any changes.

*Please note: All Disney World refurbishments & closings are subject to change without notice.

You may have heard about some of the exciting new developments coming to Disney World over the next few years, including a new Monsters, Inc. Land at Hollywood Studios, the retheming of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster to include the Muppets, a new Tropical Americas section in Animal Kingdom taking over for DinoLand USA and even new Cars and Villains Lands coming to Magic Kingdom. We've got the details below on any construction or closures making way for these new spaces, and will continue to update once confirmed. If you're interested in learning more about what's coming to Disney World, hop here!

What is the best time for a Holiday (Christmas) visit to WDW? What about the time between Christmas and New Year?

Hi Ben,

These are the very busiest times of the year to visit. Earlier in December is better, although this year with the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, we expect it will be busier all month.

The room updates at All Star Movies are still going on, though there's no end date available to the public. It never hurts to give the resort a call and request a finished room! They look beautiful -- enjoy your trip!

Hi Karen,

The average temperature in Orlando in September is a high of 84 degrees and a low of 70 degrees, with 11 rainy days. However, you just never know in Orlando, and we highly recommend packing some ponchos and a travel umbrella just to be safe. You can see more details about the average daily temperature on our Crowd Calendar.

Just returned from Grand Floridian, some maintenance on outside of Sago Cay's exterior, nothing too unsightly, may be touching up paint. Also noticed a whole wing of the same mentioned building closed off, I imagine the rooms with balconies being worked on.

Just got a message from Disney that my fast pass + for Rivers of Light on May 15 was canceled and was changed to The Lion King. What's the story with this move?

Hi John!

That's so weird, because on Disney's site, it still has two showings on the calendar for May 15. We recommend reaching out to Disney's guest services to inquire at 407-939-6104. Keep us posted!

Hi John!

This is continuing to perplex us! We checked both the Disney World site calendar and available FastPass+ reservations, and two showtimes are scheduled for May 15. Guest services assured us that the show will only be down for maintenance on May 13, but up and running on May 15. We would recommend trying to book another FastPass+.

It looks like when we go end of April it is not worth it to go to California Adventure. I have a teenager who loves the fast rides and roller coasters.

Hi Aisha!

We have a feeling the kids clubs are closing to make way for the new Play Zone at Disney's Contemporary Resort. It is likely we'll see more of these throughout Disney property!

Hello! Do you know when FastPasses for Pirates will open up, assuming that the March 18 reopening date is correct? We'll be there then and I'm hopeful that we can ride it! Thanks in advance for any tips!

Hi Amanda!

Disney will not allow guests to book FastPass+ reservations for Pirates of the Caribbean until they are positive the ride will be back up and running in time. Since this is a fairly large refurbishment, they may not be available until pretty close to the re-opening date.

Are there any updates to this and/or how accurate? Touringplans had Pirates and Splash listed with reopening dates but now are listed as uncertain when they'll be open.
