Disney World Closures & Refurbishments

by Leap on June 3, 2026
338 Orlando

Experience all four Walt Disney World Theme Parks this summer with the 4-Day, 4-Park Magic Ticket! Valid for arrivals from May 26 to Sept. 26, 2026.

Inside This Post

We've put together this list of Disney World closures and refurbishments for the theme parks, water parks, Disney Springs and hotels, so you know which rides, experiences and even transportation and amenities might be unavailable during your visit. Refurbishments are temporary closures, usually scheduled in advance but can also take place last minute. Permanent closures are rides that are no longer active in the parks, and seasonal ones are those that take place annually. While we regularly update this post, please note that all attraction closures at Disney World and refurbishments are subject to change without notice.

Disney World Refurbishments - Leap

Walt Disney World Ride Closures & Refurbishments

Here is a list of all temporary closures at Disney World. It is not uncommon for Disney to change refurbishment times — to move up or postpone temporary closures — so check back as your trip gets closer! We update this post every week to reflect any changes.

*Please note: All Disney World refurbishments & closings are subject to change without notice.

You may have heard about some of the exciting new developments coming to Disney World over the next few years, including a new Monsters, Inc. Land at Hollywood Studios, the retheming of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster to include the Muppets, a new Tropical Americas section in Animal Kingdom taking over for DinoLand USA and even new Cars and Villains Lands coming to Magic Kingdom. We've got the details below on any construction or closures making way for these new spaces, and will continue to update once confirmed. If you're interested in learning more about what's coming to Disney World, hop here!

Hi R,

Yes, it's toadally easy to hop from the Magic Kingdom to Epcot. Take the monorail to the Transportation and Ticket Center, then board the Epcot monorail that heads directly to the park.

I've seen reports that Splash Mountain will be closed again Jan 8 to Feb 1. Are these official? Also, how often do refurbishments finish ahead of/on/behind schedule? Thanks!

I noticed many reports on the 2nd Splash closing as well and some sites are saying the official Disney Travel Agents website reports it as well. Do you have access or know anyone who does to confirm this. We plan our trips around the Splash closure because it is hands down our families favorite ride. We are book for late January and are now very worried. Any info to help ease our minds would be huge! Thanks!

Hi,

We hopped onto the official Disney Travel Agents website this morning and did not see Splash Mountain listed for closure. We also checked the attraction's official page with a few Jan. dates. Same thing — not listed for closure. If that information changes, we'll update this post.

As always, refurbishment schedules are subject to change.

Thanks for your reply. The main consumer website now does show Splash Mountain being closed between January 8th and February 1st 2018 if you search the calendar. The main write-up does not show it yet but the calendar does. I have also spoken with another travel agent with access to the Disney Travel Agents website and that site too does show the ride going down during those time-frames. They even called the Disney Travel Agents website line and confirmed it. A real bummer. We avoided a November trip because of this and I have now had to move our January trip back 2.5 weeks to avoid the closure (the ride is that important haha!) Hope this helps.

I've heard more rumors about splash mountain being closed in January. Have you heard anything further on this? And if it is going to be refurbished why would they wait until less than 80 days to announce it? It's very frustrating and avoidable, we changed our original plans of goIng in October bc it was closed and now we might have to cancel agaIn

My 60-day window opened a couple weeks ago and I tried getting a FP for Kali River Rapids for 3/10 but it said all the FPs were gone. Do you think all the FPs were already gone then or could they keeping FP closed until they know the ride will definitely be open since it's still under refurbishment until 2/13?

Hi Del,

It's hard to know what the situation is. There's a good buffer of time between the refurbishment and when you're there. Keep trying. If you don't get Fastpass, then try to hit Kali River Rapids during your first few hours at Animal Kingdom, since that's when the lines will be shortest.

Hi Lisa,

The castle tour might still be open, but it's unlikely; they might close the whole castle down as part of the refurbishment. We hope you are able to see it - it is amazing!

Thank you! It's our pleasure :)

I just stayed during WL construction end of Sept begining of Oct 2016 and yes there is construction work but most areas are all open just a few areas closed off. We did not have noise issues but you never know. I would still plan on booking and let they know you would like a room as far from construction as possible.

I also know that attractions like Small World, Haunted Mansion close in preperations for Halloween and Xmas. It's a Small World is usually one of the last ones to be converted for xmas and to reopen. This is based on many years of experience traveling around that time to late September.

Good morning two questions two different parks:

One I have a fast pass schedule for the Haunted Mansion but looking at the My Disney app it has said it is closed the past couple of days (May 2016). I am confused that I can schedule a fast pass time but it says closed.

Is the Hulk open yet? That is the one ride we are really looking forward too.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Heather,

If Disney is allowing you to schedule it, I would go ahead and do so. If it ends up being refurbished, you would then get another option. The Hulk is not expected to open again until late summer :(

Rode Maelstrom one more time on the last day. 50 minute wait for the ones with no Fastpass. Disney is stupid to close such a popular ride, especially when they could keep this one AND build a Frozen ride nearby.

I think a better Frozen ride would be at Hollywood Studios in the former Backstage Tour Catastrophe Canyon. (Closing this ride is another dumb move) Anyway,Leave the Canyon ride intact except for the little oil well in the center. Replace the oil well with Frozen characters. Then have them scream in terror as the water and fire come from all directions. Watch the little snowman Olaf melt. Guaranteed to be the most popular ride in the park!

You probably have seen the update here already that the main pool will be under refurbishment Sept. 3-Nov. 27. I am very sorry for the bad news, but there are some really terrific pools and resorts at Disney World. If you are looking at deluxe resorts, have you considered Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge or Disney's Grand Floridian?
