The Best Theme Parks in Orlando for Every Age Group

Inside This Post Inside This Post

When you're spending and saving for the vacation of your dreams, you want to know that every dime is going toward the best possible experience for your family. The wonderful thing about Orlando is that there are many incredible theme parks to enjoy. For the most part, all of the parks offer something for every age group, but some parks may be better suited for your frog squad's particular ages than others. Whether you're searching for the best theme park in Orlando for your toddlers or grandparents (plus everyone in between), we're hoppy to help!

Best Theme Parks in Orlando by Age Group - Multigenerational Family at Universal Orlando

Before we dive into the best theme parks in Orlando by age group, let's be clear: This isn't the definitive guide — there are always exceptions! The best Orlando theme park for your kids, parents and/or partner is the one that they want to visit. And the best way to help them decide is to get them involved in the process.

For the tadpoles, see what looks fun. Show them videos of attractions from our YouTube channel. Also, consider what they're currently interested in or obsessed with. Do they like "Star Wars"? The best Disney World park for them might be Disney's Hollywood Studios, especially with Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Watched "Frozen 2" too many times on Disney+? Head to EPCOT to see Anna and Elsa in their "Frozen 2"-themed outfits! Can't get enough of "Despicable Me" and the minions? You're off to Universal Studios Florida. Penguins and dolphins? Sea ya at SeaWorld Orlando. Regardless of the age category that your tadpoles fall into, give serious consideration to what they are interested in.

For the adults, consider their interests and what will bring them the most joy out of the vacation. Meeting characters and going for a spin on rides isn't for every grown-up — but watching the tadpoles or grand tadpoles (granpoles?) meet their favorite characters just might be the best thing ever. The best theme parks in Orlando cater to adults of all ages. And the atmosphere of a wonderfully themed land or park can be just enough "magic" for those who don't need thrills.

Collared Lemur at Disney's Animal Kingdom

If you can, our recommendation is to visit each of the parks at least once and then pick your favorites to revisit. That said, here are our choices for the best Orlando theme parks by age group.

Best Theme Parks in Orlando for Toddlers (Ages 4 and Under)

Best: Magic Kingdom

Hands down, Magic Kingdom offers the most magical experience of all of the Orlando theme parks. Guests of all ages, but especially the toddler set, will be able to enjoy a large number of attractions. They can also meet their favorite Disney characters and wonder at the sights and sounds in each of the different lands. For children who are easily scared, there are plenty of rides where they can sit with their parents. Start them off with Peter Pan's Flight and Dumbo the Flying Elephant.

Taking a baby to Disney World - Mickey & Minnie Meet

Character meet-and-greets can be like a dream come true for the toddler age group. The variety of Disney characters hanging out in Magic Kingdom is great. You can also see your favorite characters marching through the park in cavalcades, the Disney Festival of Fantasy parade or occasionally popping up at random locations from a distance. Whether your tadpole is a Mickey Mouse admirer or a princess in training (you can find Cinderella, Tiana and more at Princess Fairytale Hall), you're quite likely to find their favorite Disney character somewhere! All of this leads us to rank Magic Kingdom as the best Disney park for the little ones.

Other Good Orlando Theme Parks for Toddlers:

  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park — This park is ideal for anyone who loves animals. Toddlers especially will enjoy seeing them up close in a lush, jungle-like setting. Tortoises, lions, cotton-top tamarin monkeys, yellow-naped Amazon parrots and more are just some of the animals that you can see! Pint-sized shows, including the fan-favorite "Festival of the Lion King" and "Finding Nemo: The Big Blue ... and Beyond!" are also perfect for the wee set. The fun AND educational environment makes this one of our best Disney parks for toddlers.
  • SeaWorld Orlando — Similarly to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the animals here truly are the focus of the park. The little ones will love feeding the sea lions and dolphins. The experience of a stingray gliding beneath their fingertips is a treasure they'll enjoy. Sesame Street Land made its debut in 2019, giving toddlers a chance to explore the beloved neighborhood with its interactive elements and family-friendly rides.

Best Theme Parks in Orlando by Age Group - Peppa Pig

  • Peppa Pig Theme Park — The newest gate at LEGOLAND Florida Resort, Peppa Pig Theme Park was built with teeny tiny tadpoles (and their parents) in mind. With marvelously mild attractions such as Peppa Pig's Balloon Ride and Grampy Rabbit's Dinosaur Adventure, play areas such as Pirate Island Sand Play and Muddy Puddles Splash Pad and engaging entertainment at Mr. Potato's Showtime Arena and the indoor Cinema, tadpoles will have a blast snorting, giggling and playing with Peppa and all of her friends! The best part? This entire park can easily be conquered in half a day which leaves plenty of time for a mid-afternoon nap.

Peppa Pig LEGOLAND - Arena

Best Theme Parks in Orlando for Elementary-Age Kids (Ages 5 to 10)

Best: SeaWorld Orlando

Best Theme Parks in Orlando by Age Group - Girl with Elmo Wand

Who says learning isn't fun? Out of all the Orlando theme parks, SeaWorld Orlando is one of the most educational. Kids of all ages, but especially young children, can test their knowledge of aquatic life. They can also explore the exhibits and get up close and personal with baby dolphins, sea lions and stingrays. Of course, the younger end of this group will also love Sesame Street Land and its interactive elements! Be sure to also check out Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin. Kids (and kids at heart) should not miss the penguin habitat, which mimics the icy conditions of the South Pole. Get up close with the penguins in temps of 30 degrees. You can see five species on land and underwater.

Other Good Orlando Theme Parks for Elementary-Age Kids:

LEGOLAND FLORIDA - girls posing outside Masters of Flight Attraction

  • LEGOLAND Florida — The whole park is geared toward 2 to 12-year-olds. For LEGO fanatics, the themed lands are second to none! Adventurous kids can experience the thrill of the Great LEGO Race roller coaster. Those who aren't quite ready have gentler ride options such as The Dragon. The water park within the park will keep everyone cool on the hottest summer days. It became even more "awesome" with the addition of LEGO MOVIE World in 2019.
  • Magic Kingdom — This is the place where fairytales come true, and princesses and pirates will love the opportunities to indulge in a little make-believe and maybe work up the nerve to try out Space Mountain or Tiana's Bayou Adventure. Great starter coaster options are Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or The Barnstormer. For example, did you know that most kids consider Space Mountain to be one of the coolest - if not the coolest ride at Magic Kingdom?

Best Theme Parks in Orlando for Tweens (Ages 11 to 13)

Best: Universal Studios Florida

Best Theme Parks in Orlando by Age Group - Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Studios Florida

With more simulator rides than thrill rides, and many based on movie franchises, Universal Studios Florida offers a lot to do and see for teens and tweens. Of course, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley should be at the top of the list, and Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts is not to be missed! The bravest of tweens can tackle Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit coaster, which reaches speeds of up to 65 mph! Although Revenge of the Mummy is slightly tamer, it still offers plenty of scream-worthy moments. TRANSFORMERS: The Ride-3D is thrilling 3D technology at its best as Autobots attempt to protect the AllSpark from Decepticons.

Other Good Orlando Theme Parks for Tweens:

  • SeaWorld Orlando — Daredevil tweens will, indeed, love the thrill rides, especially MakoJourney to Atlantis, Kraken and Manta. They can also now tackle the brand-new Ice Breaker, the park's first multi-launch coaster. There's also the newer Pipeline: The Surf Coaster that launches guests 110 feet up in the air. Oh and did we mention that this is a standing coaster?

As frogs, we also think the animal encounters are also pretty awesome ;)

Best Theme Parks in Orlando for Teens (Ages 14 to 18)

Best: Universal Islands of Adventure

Teens will, indeed, love the high number of true thrill rides, including the Incredible Hulk CoasterHagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and Jurassic World VelociCoaster! Harry Potter fans will feel like they just stepped into the books at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade. Even those who aren't fans will be mesmerized by the incredible attention to detail! Journeying on the Hogwarts Express - Hogsmeade is an entertaining and awesome ride for park hoppers wanting to venture over to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley! Of course, no visit here is complete without Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey inside Hogwarts Castle.

Other Good Orlando Theme Parks for Teens:

  • EPCOT — Teens will love traveling the world in a single day, sampling the cultures — plus eating, shopping ... and eating! (Did we mention eating? There are plenty of options to satisfy your growing teen's hunger!) EPCOT offers some of the most diverse entertainment options out of the major Orlando theme parks. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Soarin’ Around the World remain perennial favorites. For this reason, EPCOT is a must-visit.
  • Magic Kingdom — While parents and teens rarely agree, they seem to share the same nostalgia for visiting the Most Magical Place on Earth. The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is a roller coaster the whole family can enjoy together, and the Haunted Mansion is a supernatural adventure. While it may not have the major thrills of some of the other Orlando parks, you can't deny the joyful feelings it brings, which is why we rank it as the overall best Disney World theme park!

Best Theme Parks in Orlando for Adults

Best: EPCOT

Best Theme Parks in Orlando by Age Group - Group of smiling adults in EPCOT's Germany Pavilion

The most non-traditional park out of all the Orlando theme parks, EPCOT offers the chance to experience many of the world's cultures through sight, sound and taste. Shopaholics (raises hand) will love strolling through the World Showcase shops. EPCOT, in particular, is the only place in the U.S. where some of these items can be found! You’ll have plenty of diverse food and beverage options to choose from, too!

Other Good Theme Parks for Adults:

Best Theme Parks in Orlando for Seniors

Best: SeaWorld Orlando

SeaWorld Orlando is known for having fantastic shows such as Sea Lion & Otter Spotlight and Dolphin Adventures. Guests will enjoy the animal encounters, the 360-degree view of Orlando from Sky Tower, getting an up-close look at how the park comes to the aid of sick, injured and orphaned animals at the brand-new SeaWorld Rescue Center and the numerous places to cool off.

Other Good Theme Parks for Seniors

  • EPCOT — World Showcase offers the chance to shop, eat and drink in the history and architecture of 11 countries. You can take your time hopping from pavilion to pavilion without having to walk far distances at a time.

Best Theme Parks in Orlando by Age Group - Prime Time

  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios — This park provides a trip back in time through Hollywood's Golden Era. The 50s Prime Time Cafe is a nostalgic eating experience in a sitcom setting. Or, dine like a Hollywood icon at The Hollywood Brown Derby.

Whew! This was a long list, but now you've got the lowdown on what we think are the best Orlando parks by age group. Now, it's your turn. Tell us which are your favorites, for each age group or overall!

Hi Ricky!

We love all of the Disney Parks, so it'll just depend on what you'd like to do. There are lots of fun restaurants (and drinks) at both Epcot and Animal Kingdom (though Animal Kingdom will have more rides for adults than Epcot). Magic Kingdom has many magical rides, but you won't find the same dining options (or alcoholic beverages) and there will certainly be more tadpoles there than at the other parks. I'm sure other members of the Frog Pond have some suggestions, too! Have a frogtastic trip!

My husband and I will be celebrating our 25th anniversary this June. We are thinking about visiting one of Orlando's theme parks. We are not much in to wild rides and such. Which park should we go to that has more simulator rides/activities. Thank you in advance.

Hi Rosie,

Hoppy anniversary! Magic Kingdom has a wide variety of immersive rides (without the thrills and speed!) Epcot may also be a good choice for you and your husband; while it's a little slimmer on rides, you'd be able to walk "around the world" and take in the different pavilions, cultures, food and drink together.

We would like to go to one day at Disney with our grown daughters who are between 30-35. We went to Hollywood Studios probably 10 years ago. They're not interested in Epcot. So we were thinking about Magic Kingdom (which we attended when they were children). Is there enough for them at Magic Kingdom?

Hi Jo!

Magic Kingdom has plenty for all ages, including attractions like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Space Mountain and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Depending on which rides they're interested in, it might be worth getting a park hopper for the day so that they're able to bounce around to the different parks! Hollywood Studios, of course, has Tower of Terror and a lot of fun Star Wars features right now; Animal Kingdom has Expedition Everest, Pandora and some fun animal-watching; and Epcot, while they aren't interested, does have a lot of fun options for adults in terms of food and beverages :) I'd take a look at which rides they'd like to prioritize and plan from there.

Hi Evie!

Each park listed has a pretty frogtastic range of activities for kids of all ages. Magic Kingdom would be a great choice, where your youngest tadpole can enjoy all of the meet-and-greets and magic geared towards the younger crowd, while your older froggies can hit some of the coasters, such as Big Thunder Mountain or Space Mountain. I'm sure other families in the Frog Pond can weigh in on their favorites, as well :)

Love your site! I'm traveling as a solo parent with my son (6) and daughter (3) for the first time in mid-March. We have 2 1/2 days: Day 1 at MK, and then... Day 2 Hollywood Studios and Day 3 (1/2 day) Epcot? Or do 2 days at MK? I think kids would enjoy a lot of Hollywood Studios (Toy Story, shows, Disney Junior, Star Wars and Jedi training), but generally it seems not as well-liked as Epcot. Advice? Thank you!

Hi Anna,

I would do Magic Kingdom day 1, Disney's Hollywood Studios day 2 and Disney's Animal Kingdom day 3 or two days at Magic Kingdom and a half day at Disney's Hollywood Studios. With the flexibility of the tickets, you can always change your mind. I would prioritize DHS and Disney's Animal Kingdom over Epcot given your children's ages.

If you want to really make his day, spring for the Marvel Character Diner that includes Captain America, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Cyclops and more! He would toadally love it! You can see details and book the dinner on Universal's site.

I was thinking of getting the Park Hopper option - do you think we can get through MK, AK and HS the same day? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi there!

OMG, this is all so exciting! With your little ones joining, it might be a bit too ambitious to plan on hitting three parks in one day. Two is much more reasonable. Ugh, we LOVE all of the parks so much ... and if your son loves dinosaurs, Animal Kingdom is a MUST! We're huge fans of Toy Story Land at Hollywood Studios (which you and your son would both love!) but Magic Kingdom has all of the classics. You can't go wrong :)

Oh, boy! You really can't go wrong. Any of the Universal or Disney parks would be excellent, but do keep height requirements in mind. It totally depends on where their interests are. Superheroes, adventures and Harry Potter? Universal. Disney films and awesome, themed attractions? Disney. :) We truly love them both! SeaWorld is always a great stop too.

We are going to Orlando for a four day trip in March 2018 for the first time for our family of 4 (5 year old and 9 year old girls). We will have a half day on arrival day, and nearly 3 full days since our flight doesn't leave until 9 on our last day. I am having an extremely tough time deciding which days to do which parks. I know MK will be a full day, but which other park deserves our full day time? Which can we make due with noon - close, and open - 5?

Hi!

I’m going to Orlando next month, like in the thanksgiving week(crowds...crowds) Unfortunately I need to pick only 3 disney parks, but no kids are on the group so we decided to go to MK and Epcot but still haven’t decided between AK and HS! AK has the animal area that doesn’t interest me very much I’d go mainly for the Pandora world... but I keep thinking, probably no FP+ available, long lines... but HS will have long lines too because of Toy Story Land, although it’s aimed for kids... I’d like to know! What do you guys think it’s the best option? What would adults enjoy more?

Hi Thay!

Oh my goodness, this is a super tough choice! Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom have two of the newest, best, most immersive lands at Walt Disney World (Toy Story Land and Pandora, respectively.) Both are awesome options and it toadally just depends on your interests. We'd say both parks are similar in terms of difficulty getting those highly sought-after FastPass+ selections, and will have similar wait times. We personally prefer Toy Story Land (with kids or without!) but Flight of Passage in Pandora is the most impressive ride we've ever done. Sorry we are just as fickle as you, but we hope our input helps!

It all depends on his interests, but if you're visiting Disney, we suggest either Disney's Hollywood Studios or Disney's Animal Kingdom! If you can visit other theme parks in Orlando, Universal Studios Florida and Universal's Islands of Adventure are great for that age, as well.

I will be attending a conference and my family will be joining me. We'll have 3 days after the conference together and trying to decide which two parks to visit. My husband and I have two daughters (13 and 14 years old). Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

P.S. This will be our daughter's first visit to Disney.

Hi Mina,

How fun! All of the Orlando parks are excellent. If your daughters are interested in thrill rides, superheroes and Harry Potter, Universal is the obvious choice! Of course, Disney World is a classic family favorite with so much to do. We would recommend splitting your time between these two locations.

Hi - we'll be in Orlando for 6 days in mid-Feb. Extended family trip with girls ages 15, 12, & 9 and a boy age 11. We've been to Disneyland & Cali Adventure a few times - they're closer to home on the west coast. This is our first trip to Orlando and the family wants to have 2 down/rest days. Since we just have 4 days, would you recommend 2 days at Universal (Studios & Islands of Adventure) and 2 days at Disney (Epcot & Animal Kingdom) OR 1 day at Univ. Studios and 3 at Disney (Epcot, AK & MK)?? There will be 7 adults on the trip, too (ages 47-75). Would be good to see places that are different from what SoCal parks offer, but just want the overall best experience. Not huge extreme/thrill riders, but love Harry Potter & Disney and seeing/experiencing new things.

Not sure what to do and really appreciate any help you can give! Thank you!!

Hi MK,

How exciting! That sounds like it will be an awesome trip. With lots of thrill rides at Universal, we find that Disney World tends to be a better option for multi-generational trips. Since you call the West Coast home, you can always visit Universal Studios Hollywood...we would recommend spending 3 days at Disney to visit unique Orlando parks: Animal Kingdom and Epcot!

Hi Brian,

SeaWorld has hotel partners that provide complimentary transportation to the park and some are even within walking distance to SeaWorld Orlando. This makes it very easy to get to and from the park! Hope you have a wonderful trip.

I plan to take my kids (6 + 9) to Universal Studios. How aggressive are the rollercoasters at Adventure Island? My kids are not savy rollercoaster riders. Legoland and Sea World coasters are fine, even Star Tours was a hit, but no loops, corkscrews, or super steep drops. However, my nine year-old, is a huge Harry Potter fan, so I would like him to get the most out of his visit, without wasting a ton of money.

Hi Julie,

There are only two rollercoasters at Universal's Islands of Adventure. You'll want to stay away from one of them, The Incredible Hulk, as it is pretty intense. The other one, Flight of the Hippogriff, is very tame. The rest of the attractions at that park are not rollercoasters, so you should be a-okay!

Hello,

I will be visiting Orlando just for a day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and want to take my parents and uncle (age group 40 to 50 years) around the theme park which is most suitable for adult to senior people, not too many rides. I was confused between SeaWorld and Epcot. Could you please suggest which one could be better on a Monday ?

Hi there,

It depends on the date you'll be visiting as far as how crowded and busy the different parks will be, but Epcot would be a great choice for that age range. It also depends on their interests!

Hey! Your site has helped so much but I do have a question. I am visiting in April 2018 with my 5 and 11 yr old girls. Magic and animal kingdoms are a must, but in undecided on hollywood (we are skipping epcot this round). My 11yr old loves thrill rides and star wars so it seems like a no brainer but I'm afraid my 5 yr old will be bored out of her mind. Is it worth it to buy all of us tickets or should we wait and visit Hollywood in 2020? Thanks!

Hi Emily,

If you're also including rest days, then you should be all right. Those rest days are the key to not becoming too exhausted! It depends on what your son is into, but he might enjoy Disney's Animal Kingdom and Disney's Hollywood Studios (plenty of Star Wars-themed experiences if he's a Star Wars fan). Magic Kingdom Park also has plenty to offer for that age range. Have a great trip!

Hi Tos,

We would suggest Magic Kingdom Park and Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park for those ages. If either are huge Star Wars fans, Disney's Hollywood Studios also has a lot to offer with Star Wars Launch Bay and Star Tours, plus Star Wars-themed shows; it also has a couple of thrill rides. It just depends on their interest!

Hey, we are going to Orlando this coming Thursday on an official trip with our 8 month old daughter and will be there for 2 days. We are planning to go to the Animal Kingdom to enjoy the newest edition Pandora and ride the two attractions in there. So planning 1 day at the Animal Kingdom. However, I am quite at a loss while looking for a half day tour to any other places. Can you please suggest a place/attraction that we could enjoy in like 5/6 hours with an infant? Other theme parks can not be covered in that short time frame, so I am leaving them for the next planned vacation. Thanks!

Hi there,

Probably 3-5 days at Disney World and 2-4 days at Universal Orlando. Since your kids are older, they may enjoy Universal more, especially if they like thrill rides. You could add another day for SeaWorld, Busch Gardens or Discovery Cove.

That really depends on what your mom would like to do. If she's an animal lover, she may enjoy Disney's Animal Kingdom. Movies and thrill rides? Disney's Hollywood Studios. Have your mom look over all of the parks, watch some videos on our YouTube channel, and have her choose. If the countries and attractions appeal to her, then head to Epcot!

Hi Gosia,

There is so much more than princesses at the Magic Kingdom! It's a good balance of fun attractions and shows, with few thrill rides. Jungle Cruise, Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters, Haunted Mansion. Show your girls our Magic Kingdom videos and see if they're interested in those kinds of adventures!

Besides the Magic Kingdom Park I'm unsure where else would be the best route to go having a 6 year old. I was told Universal is more for older kids. Was thinking Maybe Legoland and possibly the Discovery Cove. What would you recommend are the best attractions to go to for a 6 year old to get the most enjoyment?

Hi Tony,

The best park for your 6-year-old would be the one that they want to visit. Get them involved in the process. Do they like Star Wars? Disney's Hollywood Studios. Frozen? Epcot. Despicable Me and Shrek? Universal Studios. Penguins and Dolphins? SeaWorld.

The best park for one 6-year-old would be different for another. It's all about what they are interested in.

My son is 6 and daughter is 3 and I want to make sure they would have plenty to do. My concerns are business and not being able do a lot. My daughter is really into princess and loves frozen. I seen Epcot has the frozen stuff but not sure if there is a lot to really offer. I know I really want her to at least be able to see Anna and Elsa but not sure if going to Epcot would be worth my time.. we are planning to go to the park 2 days and not which one.. if I should do Mk both days to get the full experience or forget that and go to like universal studios instead.. I just want to be able to let them ride the most rides they can and experience the atmosphere too.. I want to be able to get my money's worth too... please help this is our first time ever going

Hi Heather,

The best way to make sure your children get the most out of their Disney World experience is to get them involved in the planning process. Go over each park with them and see what they get excited about. Our Park Plans even include videos of the attractions! Getting the most rides in shouldn't be the goal. Go for quality over quantity. Don't overlook the shows, fireworks and character greetings. If Elsa and Anna are a big deal, but not enough to bring you to Epcot, they do appear in the afternoon Magic Kingdom parade.

Thanks to this post, I have a some idea, but am really trying to figure out what would be ideal for a 3 day trip for us? I can tell MK is a no brainer, but should we do this on his actual bday (it'll be our 2nd day in Florida, but our 1st day doing one of the parks). Also, what about fass passes and hoppers? Hi Mommy Deuce,

1) Hopper Passes allow you to visit more than one park per day.

2) Plenty of information about Fastpass+ right here.

3) Your best bet for a magical vacation is getting your children involved in the planning. If they like Star Wars or Toy Story, then go to Disney's Hollywood Studios. Zoos? Animal Kingdom or Sea World. Frozen? Epcot. While Magic Kingdom has the best attractions for young children, all the other parks have something for everyone. Get them involved and let them see all the options!

For thrills, it would be Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. As for a Disney park, the thrills are spread out. Magic Kingdom has three coasters and Splash Mountain while Disney's Hollywood Studios has Tower of Terror and Rock N' Roller Coaster.

Take a look at our Park Plans to get a better idea of all the attractions at the parks!

If you have the time and can afford a two-day ticket, two days at the Universal Studios Resort is worth it. Also, include her in the process. Have her look at the attractions and check out our videos from Disney's Hollywood Studios and Universal. Would she rather see Harry Potter, Despicable Me and Dr. Suess over Star Wars, Toy Story and Tower of Terror?

Universal is about a 15-minute drive to SeaWorld.
